Wat r u, casul?
I’m curious what is meant by “limited fuel” for the drones. I don’t think it is our new class mechanic, cause this should affect everything, not just the new utilities. That said, maybe drones are mantras? And the limited fuel are their charges? No idea.
Upkeep skills, perhaps? Sure, you could run all your drones constantly, but when you run out of energy they all come crashing down.

But we don’t have any natural energy source like the revenant. And I really doubt it is the class mechanic. And if it is the new class mechanic, how could we generate it? By using toolbelt skills? Don’t know, but I got the feeling it is something completely different from upkeep skills.

I am also suspect of the idea, but it’s not impossible. Because we’re getting a 2-H weapon the class mechanic is theoretically supposed to be less-impacted than if we only got a 1-H. However, if they’re bringing “fuel” into the mix then there are two existing mechanics (upkeep and initiative) that could be used to accomplish this and I feel like upkeep is more flavorful.
Also, I think the Herald is in a really good spot with the balance they gave its upkeep skills and I would not be disappointed seeing that balance applied to the engineer.

But I see another problem with that. Let’s say the new class mechanic is a new energy resource named fuel. It has to have an effect on another things as our new utilities too, because class mechanic are there to have an effect in all builds, not just when you are running the right skills.
So if there is a new resource, it has to do more than just give us the new upkeep skills. Like improve our toolbelt skills or something like that.

Good point. I’m not really sure what it could mean then. The anticipation is getting to me
…what i hope is that this does not replace the toolbelt fully… else it would make quite a lot of skills\kits pretty much useless. Med kit without self heal, e-gun without stun break, turrets without blast finishers, elixirs without tossing, mortar without orbital strike….etc..etc..
Is the armor from that pic currently obtainable? o_____________o

magitech armor from the gem store… pretty much one of the very VERY view medium armors that look like they are made for engineers…whats pretty sad. Its available since 2 years now atleast and costs 800 gems. The helmet is the specialisation armor piece and isnt available atm

well magitech armor i think is okayish for an engineer…but i still think we are lacking armors that actually look like a medieval engineer – magitech looks way too futuristic for my taste…id rather want something that looks like an ork mekboy

im also curious about why they suddenly went for lightning instead of fire…interesting tough

I agree, I hope they don’t got the idea to let go of the steampunk theme for a more scifi theme.
About the “lightning instead of fire” thing …. it isn’t instead, it is both. We still get the explosive looking rocket charge we saw in the trailer, but also getting some electric devices for the hammer. As long as I get another block for my engi, I’m fine with that.
And I hope the AA of the hammer is looking quite explosive. Would really enjoy that.

If it would be me.. engi armor would look like this.. but we cant have that, generic coats only all the way…isnt like engineers would carry a kittenload of machines and tools arround…same counts btw for the other mediums.. completely different fighting styles\needs for armor. Well.. magitech atleast got some mechanical elements in its design
Okay so from what I can gather they’re probably going to be mini ventari tablets.
Things to note:
- Each drone has an AoE marker.
- 3 of the drones have symbols on them, bubbles, shield and stars.
- The one in the back is further out from the rest.
My theory is they’re going to be like the ventari tablet, you summon them and then move them about via the toolbelt skill with an option to detonate/overload the drone most likely putting it on cooldown. (Hopefully they default follow you and maybe only move to the area for X amount of time, similar to the “Guard!” shout)
These will probably provide decent fields and the hammer will probably have a leap/blast finisher or two on it for synergy.
However if the effects are powerful then they would need a drawback, one way to do this would be via upkeep similar to facets and maybe we get a fuel bar in ADDITION, this will only effect drones however could be traited to possibly effect other utility skills.
I like the idea but I’m not sold, I played Ventari/Glint with a lot of success however the tablet had a few issues, if they default follow us and command “guard” then I can see it being pretty good. My main concern however is that the trait lines we have aren’t strong enough on their own and if the “Forge” line is solid it could become mandatory for most builds.
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!

they usually have armors that hint more towards a certain class….i think anet also needs to think more in PARTS regarding armor – why not have a “generic” medium armor, but one part of it has a druid theme or a engi theme, so that you can mix and match and include and exclude parts from other armors – this would also encourage more style variations while still making all armors viable for everyone instead of the situation that they are either generic or too specific…
regarding lightning field…well, lightning field just isnt THAT gread… whirl finisher is kinda nice if you can stack vulnerability fast…but swiftness and daze meh…

the thing with “hinting” is that it stays rather generic. If it would be me the armors would be ALL full out profession styled. No doubt that this one here is a thief sneaking suit with knives all over the place and poison vials and satchels full of smoke bombs and that one over there is an engineerĀ“s armor with its toolbelt full of wrenches and protective goggles while that thing over there is clearly meant for a ranger with its hunting trophies and fur hide shoulders. Less generic parts mean more distinct looks and mix and match does the rest. You can come up with so many epic looks that way. A “steampunk” thief that appreciates charr firearms and armors to aid him in battle, a norn engineer that decorates his armor with hunting trophies and mementos from hoelbrak to always have a bit of his roots with him, a ranger that prevers the more sneaky route to get to his prey and so much more.
Before i de-rail the topic too much i gonna shut up now
I’d like to think that the lil’ drone things act like ele scepter 2 in earth, where they just sorta hover about and give you little bonuses until you activate them. ‘Fuel’ could just be how long they last? Please no AI
I agree, I hope they don’t got the idea to let go of the steampunk theme for a more scifi theme.
I doubt it. I mean, the Forge sounds like something that would come out of Sorrow’s Furnace, that can’t be more steampunk than this.

seems its actually called scrapper…not like it changes the point you made..but i just wanted to throw that in
But where is our new blast with a very short CD ?
Even if this hammer is cool, seems it don’t fit really much to our new stuffs …

How does it not fit?
Which hammer skills do you have a particular issue with?
What is wrong with those particular skills?
I am all for a certain level of speculation, but if you do not know enough about weapons skills or a skill set, to answer those simple questions, how can you declare it doesn’t fit?
I remember something from A-Net along the lines of “Engineers will get a Steam mechanic that has to be built up”.
Think about it like Lifeforce, you build it up with your Hammer and the Drones drain it slowly while active.
Another simpler Options: Which other AI do we know that has “limited fuel”? Ding Ding Ding, Guardians Spirit Weapons only last a few seconds!

it’s more and more likely that we get some sort of steam bar to fill.
This on the othe hand won’t be tied to the hammer since one should take the weapon he prefers regardless the class mechanic. So it will something on hit, struck or movement.
If they are going to replace the toolbelt mechanic they better add every single unique stuff toolbelt had not found in otther skills:
- invisibility
- proj reflection/hate
- area rez
also this would hurt medikit really bad. this kit need a major rework with the #1 skill to be an aoe heal that would justify the camping in the kit.
Well the article will be out this evening (for EU) so let’s wait and see
