Drunken Alliance [DKAL]
Piken Square [EU]
So my guild needs me to go in the Focus Party at the moment and I could go for the generic Thief but they’re a bit overly squishy imo and I kind of prefer the Engi, so I was wondering can they reach similar levels of effectiveness in a focus party for GvG?
I’ve tried Condi and it works but I think SD might be a bit more optimal but I’m hoping one of you out there browsing has more experience than I in this role
Thanks
Baws
Depends how ballsy you are.

Typical S/D.
Pull your target, prybar, rifle #4, rifle #2, s/d volley, run up to it while the volley goes and finish with rifle #3 and #5.
Should even overload and drop a tanky frontliner…
The problem is that you don’t have Elixir S, and are pretty squishy (still better off than thief), so you should leave the stomping to other party members.
Also you’ll encounter problems with actually going for warris, since they like to run melandru and dogged march, plus lemon poultry soup. To counter this, either adjust your rota without netshot, or consume some delicious koi-cake, to gain at least “some” results.
Nomad commanders will mostly survive the full blast, tho.
If you feel less balsy, change the armor from berserker to knight.
There are a couple of condi and hybrid focus builds out there (rifle + IP + FT toolbelt == perma-burn with high reapply-factor), but with all the cleanse going on you will only yield mediocre results.
Same goes for the common condi-nade spammer, that is awesome for overloading people initially, but gets countered too hard in zerg vs zerg situations…
On the other hand, for small groups, or 15v15 gvg’s, its awesome to have a condi-engi around.
edit:
the infusions on the armor should be wvw infusions, missclicked it.

Wow thanks, looks good!
im running a similar s/d build for roaming right now and loving it.
I run elixir gun instead of goggles, and go for the knockback on turrets. the nice thing about engi is that there is a lot of variation depending on your playstyle. time those dodges and position yourself intelligently and you are very deadly in a group with s/d.
check out wolfineer on youtube as well.
I like to use rocket boots instead of rifle turret. In a WvW situation, I like the ability to get out of a bad situation quickly. As well as its ability to close gaps beyond just the magnet. The blast finisher benefit also helps.
rifle turret is nice on s/d builds for the toolbelt skill, half the cooldown of the rocketboots toolbelt skill, and surprise shot itself has more range and does more damage than rocket kick.
elixir gun 4 can be used to disengage as well as close gaps, just have to practice rotating right before you use it.
