Hey guys,
This question has kind of been pestering me as of late and was hoping your combined input could give me some insight.
If Celestial nerfs come, which they most likely will, alongside some form of nerfs for Engineer, what do you think will come of Engineer for sPvP? Will it be destined to be a condition damage class or do you think that Celestial will still be used and the class will just become less powerful and sub-optimal compared to others?
It depends on if they nerf it at all. I think it is a bit foolish to assume they will nerf the amulet. They have made comments recently about changes to come, and nothing in those comments suggest to me that the amulet will get nerfed, so I fail to see how you are jumping to that conclusion.
Why do you assume a profession will become “sub-optimal” simply because it is less powerful?
Too me, your questions and there wording, suggest you are unreasonably jumping to conclusions.
Besides, I always felt speculation threads, particularly of this nature are absolutely poitless and somewhat counterproductive in the first place.
Can’t really say because we don’t know how Anet is going to change the class! Anet could nerf cele builds really hard that it carries over into condi builds! They could take the Engineer out of the meta completely like they did with Elementalists a while back! Or Anet could just make tiny changes which won’t affect anything at all! Hopefully Anet can buff power builds! Burst Engis are fun to play and unlike most other power builds, (medi Guardian, shatter Mesmer, longbow Ranger) Engis have the mobility to be good roamers! And they don’t get absolutely destroyed by Thieves like all other power builds because of the Slick Shoes buff!
But we won’t have to worry about any of this for another few months because Anet is SLOOOOOOOW with patches!

They will not touch the Engineer, its in a good spot right now.
They will probably nerf the Cele gear a bit, which depending on the degree of changes may or may not push Engi’s back to Rabid.
I dont play celestial personaly so no nerf for me. You know here are 2 types of players. Dedicated ones what will play engi no matter what and always find a way how to play it kitten good and then players who switching classes depends on what reddit said is current meta.
If & when celestial gets nerfed I will probably fall back to one of the following builds

The first can use either Baelfire or flame legion for runes & Leeching, intelligence, energy or purity for the other sigil.
Both perform quite well while doing as much or more damage then celestial (while applying more pressure via conditions), they just have a bit less self healing & toughness. (their ability to stay alive through CC however is extremely good) though the vitality the build has is slightly higher then celestial thanks to the carrion amulet.;
I honestly do not believe they will nerf the Celestial amulet per-say, but i think they WILL nerf other aspects.
For example the D/D Cele Ele is strong because of it’s obscene amount of might stacking, it’s not hard to reach 25 stacks solo, which in my opinion, shouldn’t be possible.
It would be pretty stupid to nerf the classes instead of that cancer amulet that has no place in pvp anyway.
If they nerf renewing stamina, water traits, backpack regen and warrior healing signet they will kill the classes not just the builds. Warrior is at the edge of viable anyway.

If you feel that threads of this nature are pointless and counter-productive, why contribute to them? I don’t understand how also asking some questions is “unreasonably jumping to conclusions”.
However, to the rest of the answers, thank you for your input. I hope Engineer doesn’t get hurt too badly. The main reasoning behind my question was with a likely Celestial nerf coming in sPvP, Engineer will become directly weaker as a result. With you guys knowing more about the class than myself, was wondering whether you would have any suggestions to what ANet could/probably wont change about the class :P

as far as the conclusion statements go, I wasn’t referring to the question, but rather the claim that “they most likely will” you make about nerfing the amulet. When there is no evidence that is the route they will take. I don’t no about you, but that is jumping to a conclusion in my book.

I only saw a soft nerf on granade #2, but if those are realy all the changes, then I can sleep well ^^.
That launch personal battering ram buff looks hilarious, at least. I wonder if the new throw mine will still scale up with forceful explosives. 300 radius AoE knockback sounds hilarious, and would cover most small capture points I think.

I am more curious if they also finally fix that mine bug when mine dont trigger if mob is already inside of radius. Working bunker down is my current dream.
I love PBR in concept. In practice it always seems to be outdone by a kit or other skill though, at least in my case. With this change though, it will have a similar effect of “throw shield” but with a 15s cool down instead of 40s.
It’s ~12s with 6 in tools, and considering it gets the higher coefficient SD proc, it should be pretty kitten good in SD builds after this. Not to mention it pierces and could be used to interrupt multiple ressurectors at once. Its sounding pretty fun to play already.

Ah of course. I was comparing stack to stack and not the total stacks. To that specific mechanic, yes.
You know, I’m surprised the nerf hasn’t been done like, months and months ago. I’m an avid user of Celestial gear since its very existence and despite sharing my blast for this set to many PvPers, WvW and PvP alike, the only thing I’ve heard in return was a “meh” on both realms. Yet it’s like… everything an Engi could ask for.
