A proper protest would be to go out into the open world, since they made it abundantly clear in their Nov 15th patch that this is not what they want to happen anymore. We’ll scoff in the face of their “plans” to make GW2 a dungeon gear grinder and we’ll go to Orr and do temples and events!

On a bit more serious note though, not sure how much good it will do, I seem to have a knack for picking the gimped class, in WAR just such a protest happened with Magus. We gathered in the Chaos capitol, ran around, lagged up the place a bit, protesting, then after a while commiting collective suicide by jumping of a cliff.

Still we got no love though, doubt the devs even notice such “protests” :p

If you really wanted to protest, all engi mains would transfer to one tiny server, load up the population to max and quit, leaving one server quite literally dead. Or you could all port the same such as overflow shards and load up graphic affects via skills and consumables causing internal destability possible crashing entire overflow shards, but you’ll probably get punished for that XD

You can protest by playing another class and having fun with it. Engineers already have exceptionally low numbers and a sudden dip after a patch should only make that worse. Despite conspiracy theories otherwise, generally game design and dev teams take that kind of feedback seriously.

I wish they would just explain WHY a 30% nerf to grenade damage was needed. It obviously is not to balance out for sigils.

So many engis were using grenades because so many of our other skills, including the majority of the flamethrower kit, are utterly broken. This wouldn’t a big deal if we got weapon stats, but we don’t. Not only did they nerf grenade kit by the way, they also nerfed elixir gun. To anyone using a support build with ranged dps, either by gun or nade, was totally screwed.

Rifle Engineers are gimped now because the one weapon sigil slot cripples them because their other skills and best heal are useless now. Flame Thrower Engineer would be viable if it worked, but it doesn’t. Toolkit is a pvp kit and is mostly useless in PvE. Grenade Engineers do no damage worth while anymore and support engineers can’t heal properly anymore. Gadgets are either bugged to the point they don’t function or out right suck and we all know how “great” turrets are.

This wouldn’t be so bad if the devs would just release a statement telling us what the hell is going on here. I think nades these nerfs are fine and dandy in PvP/WvW, because toolkit is actually worth a dang there, but in PvE, they need to sort that out.

How would you feel if you had to reacquire every single exotic your main character has because of a massive overhaul change that will ensure he’s still not as powerful as before, even after spending 17 gold to regear him.

Oh and a side note:
Can anyone explain why a melee character like Warrior gets 200 more rifle range than an Engineer, a ranged class, automatically by default? Am I the only one that sees there’s something seriously wrong with that?

I am too. I’ve leveled a D/D Ele, Thief, and Necro to L30-40 and I’m probably sticking with the Elementalist next. It’s pretty much everything I wished the Engineer was, albeit a lot harder to play.

Engineer is kind of pushups and training for the much harder kind of long-cooldown-high-apm gameplay that is Elementalist, so that’s good. There’s also a lot of room for the class to grow in community knowledge; one need only read forums of PvP ele staff haters then go into WvW and be utterly wrecked by a Staff Ele duoing with a CC specialist to see how much room there is to grow there.

I started 7 other toons to play until my engineer gets fixed up. Really sucks that I have to wait for the one with the flavor and class style that suits me most to have bugs fixed. You’d think the bugs would be all across the board and not one majorly broken class. [Based on the fact that this is the only class with it’s own bug page on the wiki].

Ironically the only way to protest is abandoning engineer and start playing another class.
However doing a massive hit on this require most engineers agree on that and having them read forums which most do not care at all.
People want to protest for grenades because last patch was the last nail on engineer coffin. engineers care about all other bugs but greandes were hold dear because they was working as intended in contrast to other mechanics we have.

Did you only use one kit or something? Engis have to swap things just like eles, only their “elements” takes up a utility skill slot instead of an F key, strategics decisions were necessary as to what to use and where and so on. Plus you have to manage cool downs in kits that you can’t even see while doing other things, you deal way less damage, deal inferior conditions (because a 1 second burn totally is worth it) and half your skills don’t even work right.

Meanwhile, an ele can perform substantially well doing little more than f1, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, f2, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, f3, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, f4, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. avoiding their cool downs entirely and causing massive kitten to just about everything. Grenades didn’t even auto attack for goodness’ sake. Oh AND ele’s get to keep their utility skill slots instead of sacrificing them on their “elements”.

I don’t know what you’re trippin’ on dawg, but if you think ele is harder, I question if we’re even playing the same game.

I think the Toolbelt skills are actually supposed to make up for using Kits as Utilities – it’s basically like they’re Attunements, just on 6-9 instead of f1-f4, and we have to choose which ones to use instead of getting all of them. Our Toolbelt skills generally seem about as useful as most of the (first-tier) Utility skills of other classes – limited condition-on-attack (Flamethrower), personal quickheal (Medkit), AoE regen (Elixir Gun), burst of AoE damage (Grenade kit), and a knockback (Bomb kit).

Pity they’re still weaker than Elementalist attacks will ever be, likely to get nerfed yet farther because the devs think it’s smarter/easier to nerf into oblivion than maybe get a clearer view of what the Engineer should be and then make it fit that (especially now that Engineers can activate two sigils simultaneously on one weapon kit – I don’t know if having a Sigil of Fire on one pistol would make explosions when the other pistol was fired, but I figure they’ll take that away as soon as one of them notices a Flamethrower kit setting off both Sigil of Air and Sigil of Fire).

Having played a few other classes while waiting for them to start fixing things: The Engineer’s Utility skills are actually…pretty good, compared to those of other classes, I think. I sure have an easier time figuring out what the point of them is. In general, short cooldowns abound, combined with easy identification of purpose (and even Elixirs get better, when they’re just a Utility skill). Longest cooldown on any non-Elite Engineer skill is one minute, and most can be reduced in length by traits. I very rarely, when choosing an Engineer skill, went “That sounds absolutely useless,” as well.

This has brought me to an epiphany: We’re second-best at kitten everything. Our problem is that we have nowhere to shine. What I mean is:

We’re a condition class…but Necromancer does it better.
We’re a speed-Utility class…but Thief does it better. Ditto for the Mobility.
We’re a versatile class…but Elementalist does it better.
We’re a minion class…but Necromancer and Ranger do it better (especially Ranger, what with their various pet-aid things).
We’re a boon class…but Guardian does it better.
We don’t have a range to excel in, we don’t hit particularly hard, and we can’t do whatever it is Mesmers can do well very well, either. We’re a class designed around being second-best, and we’re second-best to everyone at everything.

tl;dr: We suck because the devs couldn’t figure out what to make us good at without stepping on somebody else’s toes.

We don ’ t lose utility skill, because we have f1-f4 too. The main difference with elementalist a part the mobility gived from the skills,the tons of permaboon during combat and the hight burst(ele can stack 20 might without HGH) ,is that elementalist CAN CHOSE THE UTILITY,so he can still have 4 attunements + 3 survival utility.
Engineer with 3 kits,can not chose the f1-F4 skills ,they are gived from kits.So we have less survive ability.Unless ofc you chose the most viable elixirs set,and every time you press f1-f4 you pray for the elixir random effect (another anet brainless slap in the face for pvper,WITH RANDOM EFFECTS WE CAN’T PLAY PVP based on the luck and randomness)….but they don’t care,randomness is fun for devs…

Engineer is already laughably poorly populated. If people who did play one just stopped Engineer would quickly drop to almost non-existant.

Im in a large WvW guild, and Engineers make up a mere 4% of the total guild population. Counting active members only.

Yup, the best protest is to stop playing.

If you can’t do that because you actually like the game then the next best thing is to just stop playing the Engineer.

The only way you will get the developers attention is if the engineer population makes up maybe 1% of the player base.

You will probably at least infuriate some 3d artist who works there and is like, “Great I spent all that damn time making the flamethrower particles and no one even uses the class!”

Trust, me, you have two choices:

Either don’t play the game
Or don’t play the engineer

I myself already rerolled am level 20 currently and having a blast with my working profession (and no it’s not warrior or thief)

Yes you are right..i can stop play engineer.
But the class is not in that drammatic situation…i mean,i’m far from be a “pro” and i still win 70/80% of my 1 vs 1 . This means i still have my satisfaction with engineer(full elixir build ofc , the easy way ) .

There are engineer far better than me,capable of do even better than win with a elixir build…..so the class is still not at his worst.

Also , i doubt a strike on this class would make Anet rework it faster.
If we are in this situation from beta (traits bug , useless turrets , underpowered kit + continue miss effect) , and they still don’t fix it ,they must have some other priority ,or even worse there are problem with codes , so it’s not easy to fix all the things.
What leave me disappointed is they heavly lack in comunication with us (apart close thread,no one of Dev spent a single minute to jump in a thread and says “we are working for you”).I know they already stated they always read forum in silence…but guys you can still give us some word of encouragment to remember us the Devs still exist , work ,watch our forum ,and will take act of some of our disage as soone as possible.

In second place, i would never reroll another class because i easly get bored grinding(i don’t pass lvl 2).I already have a thief lvl 80 parked because is really boring to play..no satisfaction doing things.
I would like to have an elementalist at this point…it seems so flexible,hard dps,perma boon , fantastic utility , his mobility leave everyone behind in/out of combat and….the elite of the gliph…fantastic…to don’t speak about the conju greatsword(useless but it looks cool….shineeeeeee) .
In short,actually is the best/most complete class , and his execution speed is far superior than every other class.It’s a real hardcore class for pvp/WvW .
If only i should excange my thief 80 for an ele….well,my bad.

Actually is full of elementalist in WvW/pvp doing things like this : 1 vs 8 .
How is it possible allow a class do so many things and leave our engineer back calling us “flexible class” ?
I want to have the same mobility,same permaboon,still have 3 utility to save my life in extremis,using my kits…just like elements…..then call me a flexible/versatile class.
Elementalist is flexible….cmon , look at the video…and jsut log in some PvP / WvW to see it’s full of elementalist doing things like that…
Instructions: just swap to fire,press 2 4 then 3 ; swap to water heal with 2 and 5 then 4 for chill then swap to air press 2 then 5 and then 4(going far from enemy or jump on em) ,then go to earth press 2 , 4 for stun then 5…..same rotation for 15 minutes,exatly the same skills pressed every time, while boons go up and stacks ,and all the enemy around you die fast , go in panic ,or just feel useless and give up….and if you are in a bad shape during rotation switch on air select a direction and press 4 then enjoy your permaswiftness (air signet 25% speed is useless considering now elementalist have 5 different PERMABOON).
Is it posssible buff a class at the point to allow some decent player make a 1 vs 8 ?
Ofc…the solution is elementalist…if u think it’s hard to do,make one,study the element and skill rotation,go in pvp(lvl80 for all) and try it.I give you max 1 week,then u are able to do same things(with all the rispect for all the elementalist) .

OT: the ele-vid is really impressing, lets look the Tankcat-vid (which also lets see the good-player behind) like kidding around. The guy actually kills things while wharping around, paired with high survivability in a crop of enemies in an open field. And are there even any video-cuts?

I think a lot of people who dip their toes into wvwvw are traited for pve and geared for the same. It is no surprise then when people with gear and trait builds optimized for pvp roflstomp over crowds of people. It’s quite easy then to make a video and look indestructable. Especially since a lot of people use glass cannon builds.

Doing this will not constitute “good” play for an elementalist, and I heartily encourage you to put 20-40 levels into the class if you haven’t already. Even staff cannot play this way.

Imagine if your kits had >10s cooldowns and you have to take 4 and the only way to win is to use all of them. That’s what elementalist is like.

And engineers get super-fast recharge toolkit spells that vary from “not a waste” to “quite good” when you factor in trait and whatnot.

It sounds like you have no idea how to play Elementalist. You know what’s also way harder to level for the first 30 levels? Thief. Know what’s also way harder to level for the first 40 levels? Mesmer. Where Engineer peters out is post L60. Before then, they’re actually quite good, eclipsed only by warriors and guardians in terms of facerollability. Just drop a flame turret and blindtank everything, then bomb kite what you can’t facetank. It’s not fast, but it’s 0-risk.

But then you hit 80 and realize what your limits are.

I don’t really know if we are the most kitten, but I think engineer design choices had some flaws not just because of the things you mention but I just don’t see a nice way to balance turrets/gadgets/elixirs comparing to kits, the closest thing I noticed they are doing is reserving some very important areas to gadgets and elixirs (break stun, remove boon and getting boons) but I don’t really like to HAVE to take something this way, I fell my utility slots are already constrained, having to get something just make it worse.

Meanwhile, an ele can perform substantially well doing little more than f1, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, f2, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, f3, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, f4, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. avoiding their cool downs entirely and causing massive kitten to just about everything.

Doing this will not constitute “good” play for an elementalist, and I heartily encourage you to put 20-40 levels into the class if you haven’t already. Even staff cannot play this way.

Imagine if your kits had >10s cooldowns and you have to take 4 and the only way to win is to use all of them. That’s what elementalist is like.

Grenades didn’t even auto attack for goodness’ sake. Oh AND ele’s get to keep their utility skill slots instead of sacrificing them on their “elements”.

And engineers get super-fast recharge toolkit spells that vary from “not a waste” to “quite good” when you factor in trait and whatnot.

I don’t know what you’re trippin’ on dawg, but if you think ele is harder, I question if we’re even playing the same game.

It sounds like you have no idea how to play Elementalist. You know what’s also way harder to level for the first 30 levels? Thief. Know what’s also way harder to level for the first 40 levels? Mesmer. Where Engineer peters out is post L60. Before then, they’re actually quite good, eclipsed only by warriors and guardians in terms of facerollability. Just drop a flame turret and blindtank everything, then bomb kite what you can’t facetank. It’s not fast, but it’s 0-risk.

But then you hit 80 and realize what your limits are.

Elementalist is alot more powerful they are Harder in A WAY to play BUT they are ALOT more Powerful So you can LEARN to play Ele And get INSANLY Good at it

you can spend 6Years on Engineer but no difference will happen you will still be Bottom on the pyramid

so you get rewarded for the hard gameplay on elementalist

whiiiile on engineer pff you get Punished on the way

Overall… Engineer is the thoughest class to play WHEN we get more powerful thats when elementalist is nr 1
