Engineer 25% speed movement signet?
Signets are a magical item, which is outside of the engineer’s expertise. Besides, engineer has plenty of ways to easily keep swiftness up.
Then we would just have the mechanical version of passive skills.
Can we really call engineers the master of inventions considering the state of gadgets and turrets? I would say we’re more on the lines of army drop outs or energy drink addicts

Army dropouts turned hobos.
Engineer is the supposed master of inventions/technology, why the kitten can’t it have a 25% increased speed signet?
Warriors or mesmers would definitely get one before we do. I don’t really think we need one though, at least not for macro-mobility purposes. I don’t think it will help that much in micro-mobility anyways, so again I don’t think we need one.
The closest thing we have to a 25%+ movement signet, is the trait ‘Power Shoes’. However, it only activates in combat, and requires 20 points into Inventions
Many Engineers just run Speedy Kits to maintain perma-swiftness. I don’t know if signets stack with swiftness, but if they don’t, then we have the better deal.
Considering we can get easy perma-swiftness from an adept trait, I agree it’s not really needed. I’d rather have a decent leap/blink ability (and no the rifle leap does not cut it).

Sounds like an engineer to me.

are we really trading off a skill slot because we dont wanna spend 10 points of traits or press a button twice every 5sec? actually i dont even run the 10 pt perma sprint. in my opinion, engies are build to kite or to bunker. If you want it for travelling, again we have perma sprint.
I wish they would just attach a 25% movement speed buff to rocket boots, kinda like our version of a signet

I think I heard someone mention the idea of making gadgets in general more like signets, giving them a passive buff so there is some incentive to slot them. Then again, since speed buffs don’t stack with swiftness, I’d probably still spend the 10 points to get perma 33% rather than 25%.
Would you waste a slot on a signet? I am the fastest in my group. Permanent Swiftness (got used to a tempo switching my kit).

I personally would use it in pvp to counteract the combat movement speed reduction while not being forced into certain trait lines, but that is just me.

Swiftness does not stack with signets, and speedy kits is way better than a signet in most circumstances in PvE/WvW/PvP.
The only time I miss it is those occasions where I need to hold something, like the swamp or colossus fractals, and can’t swap kits.

Speedy Kits is significantly better because:
1. It provides +33% instead of +25%
2. It works in combat (whereas the signet passive does not)
3. It does not consume a utility slot on a signet with a horrible active ability
It does come with the down-side of 10 points in the class trait line but that seems an acceptable trade off for the advantages listed above.
Combine it with the vitality trait for “Get vigor when you get swiftess” and now you have perma-vigor. Pretty awesome.
Engineers have very little to complain about here — we may have the best swiftness option of any profession.

Yes it does.

This. I have no problems keeping vigor/swiftness up. And I much prefer a useful traited mechanic to a signet that’s taking up precious room on my skill bar that I’m hesitant to activate. Signets make me anxious. Do I use em, do I keep em on passive? Give me a straight up skill any day.

A lot classes get vigor on crit (guard, mes and ele come to mind) whereas engis need to trait for either swiftness on crit or speedy kits and then trait for vigor on swiftness to keep swiftness up. I wouldnt count that as an advantage.
Also, with something like 20-30% boon duration you can keep perma swiftness with Drop Stimulant and Elixir B.
speedy kits is a better signet

Speedy kits being our best option for perma swiftness requires a kit build and an agonizing exercise in tedium(rolls eyes). The other option is an HGH build (again, rolls eyes).
Please, if someone on the dev team is listening, either give rocket boots a passive 25% buff (disabled on use if you’re really concerned with equality there) or change Power Shoes to be 25% all the time.

Yes having power shoes 25% all the time makes sense. Even though thy are awesome, there are many instances in which I don’t want to use a kit and expand my options a bit

This made me laugh — the engineer has a huge advantage here. If I want to dodge through a pile of mobs, I don’t have to try and tag one to get a “crit vigor” boon. I can simply flip a kit and whammo — swiftness AND vigor.
We seriously have it good with this mobility option. It’s only 10 points into the Engineer Trait line which is pretty low — and gives the bonus of +10% crit dmg.
You called it a “kit build” — does that mean a +25% passive signet would be a “signet build”?
I’d hate to lose optional perma swiftness (and optional perma vigor) for a crappy passive movement signet.

You’re acting as if they add this to gadgets you’ll lose speedy kits for the class. I think people just want more flexibility in builds that don’t revolve around kits or elixirs. Also some people don’t like swapping in and out of kits for swiftness/vigor which I can understand why since its pretty repetetive
Rocket Boots – Passive effect: Move 25% faster.
Just make gadgets signets in all but name. Also the stuff about signets being magical is just plain wrong. How do you explain signets on a warrior? However you explain it, you could make up a similar excuse for engineers.

I have to agree, in lore, signets are just items with a magical effect on people who hold them, it’s mentioned in some of the lore about orr and it’s use of magic before the cataclysm. the only reason I guess engi’s don’t use them is that they refuse to do so, not because they can’t (remember, the engineer is based on the charr after all, and look at their stance towards magic)

I love the idea because The engineer seems like a class where there’s like too much awesome traits skill and you dont know wich one to pick when you only have 70 points !
Tbh adding passive effects to gadgets might make me actually use one, they could be like cybernetic augmentations,
Goggles = cyber eyes (passive vulnerability stack/precision increase)
Rocket Shoes = cyber legs (passive move speed)
Battering Ram = tough exoskeleton (passive toughness/vitality)
Slick Shoes = agile exoskeleton (passive vigor maybe a stun break instead of goggles)
Throw Mine = bomb dispenser :p (add explosions to things :p)
Activating could give the current effects. Signets are a cool concept, and they really helped the less skilled people have fun
