Engineer Build Help!
you don’t need toughness in any pve content. and i’d recommend dropping backpack regen for modified ammo. backpack regen is a pvp trait and modified ammo is a huge damage boost. and i’d put 10 from alchemy into tools for speedy kits. and i really don’t like elixir u. too many times it’s drained all my endurance and then i get squished. i use elixir r or s dependingo n the fight, usually r because my teammates are bad. and i’d use more offensive runes like strength or scholar or go full altruism for the fury. or if you prefer the hybrid route, try noble or adventurer or scavenging.

The only issue is when I run selective dungeons or WvW, i die pretty easily. it may be because i have zero toughness im not sure. If anyone has any suggestions on how i can balance this build for PvE as well as WvW i would love to hear them.
Looking at what you provided I can see you probably tried to do too many things at once. It seems as if you threw in Rampager’s for condition damage? I don’t see anything wrong in doing so, but it is definitely killing your dps due to the horrible scaling of everything other than physical damage. If you want to see more consistent damage from the gear, then it is best to go one way or the other.
The traits you chose seem to mimic this undecided role of yours; backpack regenerator being a prime example. Without investing heavily into healing power you lose the viability of BR as a trait and essentially waste 10 points obtaining it. I see you were trying to improve your survivability by trying to utilize this, but I would suggest Speedy Kits instead as it has good synergy with Infused Precision and provides you with “perma vigor” (or the closest we have now). Building upon the concept of survivability a bit more these alterations to traits would open up your healing slot for Healing Turret as mobility is no longer an issue. HT is superior to HK in condition cleansing and provides you with water fields to use with EG’s Acid Bomb blast effect and your shield burst. HK is not recommended for WvW use as it does require you to cross over the Antidote to cleanse yourself of a single condition, which is not ideal for an immob infested gameplay. Keep in mind this is analyzing from the perspective that you want a more defensive style. If you want to improve your offensive play more, then you would have to go through different alterations. In either case you will find that Healing Turret is going to be triumphant over HK due to its improved versatility.
My suggestion to you would be to choose between condition or raw damage and build off of that. Engineer is amazing in the respect that many of our minor traits are incredibly strong and compound in strength with Major traits more so than other classes. You could make minor alterations to your current build to both maximize party dps through Vulnerability stacking via Steel Packed Powder & Precise Sights and your own damage by 15% or more using Explosive Powder, Target the Maimed and Modified Ammunition. This would mean you have to drop your points in Alchemy to favor the typical 30/30/x/x/10 setup, but it would allow you to keep the vigor generation you desire while simultaneously giving you free mobility through kit swapping (which you should be doing during combat at all times anyhow).
P.S.
As a side note I find that Elixir U is lackluster in most roaming WvW settings, but can prove very useful in dungeons if you can also use the Asura’s D-Series Golem to produce reflections in necessary situations. I would suggest using anything else to fill that spot outside of the niche areas I just described (Rocket Boots is highly effective with water fields and provides CC cleansing).
