Engineer Leveling Build ?
Do you mean mines as in Throw Mine or Bomb Kit?
I ask because the context sounds like you mean Bomb Kit.
I meant the utility skill mine, I like to drop it between myself and my target as it comes in…between the mine, net shot and OC shot stuff seems to almost never touch me! That being said I am not totally against bombs or nades….thought they were kind of redundant since FT offered such good AoE but I am pretty green in this game..
Since you just mentioned Rifle stick with that as its power based. Rifle with FT, Healing Turret, Throw Mine, Elixir B, Supply Crate (of course) is fine for leveling. For gear Power > Precision = Ferocity.
Must have traits (for leveling): Speedy Kits and Hair Trigger.
You should read up on the Minegineer build if it’s still around. Might be up your alley.
As I understand it, pistol is more of a condition based weapon….does that also apply to the FT because of the burning or do you usually focus on power for that as well?
Power, and spam Flame Blast (#2). Actually you want to run Power on pretty much everything in PvE, even Elixir Gun does more damage between Elixir F and Acid Bomb.
You could try and force condi FT, but it’ll only work on lvl80 with buff food. You don’t have easy burn uptime outside of Napalm, and no other conditions besides Sharpshooter bleeds, which don’t work well with the abysmal pre-80 crit chance.
Pistol+Shield works reasonably well with FT/Bombs, but you want to blast fire fields, blind enemies and get back to your kit, not camp that weapon set.
Hmmm….so it looks like the leveling “meta” is just power, power, power which lends itself naturally to rifle, FT, bombs/nades etc….guess I will stick with that for the time being…..is there a point where pistol/shield becomes a viable build outside of pvp?
Pistol+Shield is a viable alternative to Rifle the instant you gain access to a fire field. And before that time “viable” doesn’t really mean anything and you should be fine pressing 1+6 on any loadout.
For both weapon sets you don’t want to stay in for long unless the specific encounter demands it (tagging at range, need to push away mobs, afk’ing Golem MKII)
Rifle you mainly use #3+#5 on cooldown for extra (AoE!) damage, immobilise/knockback as needed.
Pistol+Shield you use #4 whenever your fire field is up (or save it to reflect projectile bursts), #3 the instant mobs start attacking you or to block heavy spike attacks, and #5 to interrupt. Maybe #2 if you’re running bombs and only need to get a set number of hits in (Grawl Fractal etc.)
No one should insult/kick you unless you join explicit speedrun groups, and even then P+S should be okay unless you use #4 to kick mobs away from the heavy damage pile. Keep a rifle on hand for cheesing jumping puzzles though (#5 can cross chasms, unlike teleports)
its a rifle build tho but flamethrower and rifle are the power build.
Grab as many turret related traits as your level enables you (skip Accelerant-Packed Turrets though) find a spot with somewhat high spawn rate mobs, bonus if there’s an event happening, spread Thumper, Flame/rifle, rocket and healing in a star shape then alt-tab, just check back every 5min.
Whenever you feel like it, follow all those previous advices from people before me.

Try Static Discharge trait with FT and Rifle. FT and Rifle are short range/melee weapons really. You have some good damage abilities with them though.
Some tips, let FT2 roll through the target then detonate it for lotsa damage. Rifle 3 and 5 do a lot of damage, make sure you both launch and land on the target with 5. The Throw Mine toolbelt skill drops a bunch of small mines, throw and detonate immediately for good point blank aoe damage, try to get them all to hit the target.
Don’t camp FT, cycle back to rifle when 3 and/or 5 when they are off cooldown then come back to FT. Will help maximize your damage output.
Work to 0/6/0/4/4 Rifle w/ Healing Turret, FT, Throw Mine, Rifle Turret and Supply Crate. This ain’t the lvl cap meta but it’s fun to run around with. Practice stacking might with fire fields n turrets.
GL out there
