Guild Wars 2

Soo I’ve been playing as an engineer for a while now and have found them pretty useless in PvP and find myself switching skills and all that jazz pretty loosely. I was wondering if I was missing something or if the Engie’ is simply not very strong in PvP

Ya you’re missing a alot. I do mostly WvW and find tons of utility as an engineer. Right now I’m a pistol/shield condition damage spec with explosions. Hands down I’d say I’m one of the best classes for assaulting and defending towers and such. The grenades can be thrown up at the ledges keeping the defenders at bay and vice versa for defending. PIstol and shield provides a lot of self preservation and crowd control. The rifle can put out a ton of damage specd as glass cannon.
Either way, look at all your elixirs more, healing utility and your kits. The possibilities are endless.
