Hi
Been playing a new engineer and since our recent updates Im looking for a pve leveling build if anyone does not mind sharing with me.
Thank you in advance
What do you enjoy most?
I am leveling with grenades and a range of 1500.
So my build is:
30
5
0
25
10
From the first traitline you get MASSIVE vulnerability stacks, mega range and Bleed threw crit. Second line gives more Bleedstacks.
25 in Alchemy push your boonduration and Vitality (I think vitality is superior in PvE) you gain Vigor for Speed and things like backpackgenerator
Last but not least: 10 points in the last traitline: non stop speed if you switch through your kits and since you got 25 points in alchemy you got even nonstop vigor.
love this setup
I enjoy the Elixir Gun but ive not had much joy in grenades because you can only attack by putting the circle on them
Personally I use FT, EG and a Elixir B, HGH build.
I have
10
30
0
30
0 build
Juggernaut, napalm and vulnerability on crit
Burning on crit
Elixir duration, recharge and HGH
Roam in flamethrower, have 10 stacks of might the whole time. You can stack 25 might pretty quick.
Use all you Elixirs on CD, swap to EG for more support. (EG can be switched for another Elixir)
Pistols for more conditions.
I play with a combo of rabid, rampager and carrion gear.
Balanced between Power and Condi with 50% crit chance.
Veggie pizza or koi food
Might duration runes strength x2 and hoelbrek x2 and boon duration water x2
Sigil or battle and Earth I believe are the best for condi stacking.
This die pretty quickly in this build, and you have quite high surviability with 200 toughness in FT and EG can keep you ticking health
I love my Bomb/Elixir Gun build.
It’s 30/20/0/0/20. Traits III, VII, and X in Explosives. II and V in Firearms. and III and ? in Tools.
Berserker Armor with 4 Ruby Orbs and 2 Superior Runes of Altruism. Cavalier’s Jewelery with Ruby Orbs (I might change to Berserker Jewelery).
Berserker Rifle with Major Sigil of Battle (Superior if you got the cash for it)
Skills: Medkit (to switch to for instant 8 Might), Bomb Kit, Elixir Gun, and Utility Goggles.
Here’s how I try to start every fight I know will last long enough for me to pull it off.
Rifle 2>1>switch to Medkit for 8 Might and skill 5>use Utility Goggles and Analyze to stack more Vulnerability/Fury>Switch to Bomb Kit>Fire Bomb>Big Ol’ Bomb>switch to Rifle>Jump Shot>switch to Elixir Gun>Acid Bomb>pretty much go with whatever from there trying to keep Might stacks up from switching to Medkit.
Your Bomb auto-attack should do ~3-3.5K solo. I’ve gotten 4-5K in a group.
Now this looks like alot but it does a ton of damage, nearby allies get 9 Might from your 2 Blast Finishers and Superior Runes of Altruism.
People say Engineer does bad damage and stuff but I found this build gives good support via Super Elixir/Blind/CC/AoE Regen/Cripple. It helps increase the groups damage alot with Vulnerability/Might Stacking. You got plenty of heals to keep yourself alive, and you do great damage
Don’t know what level you are but if you’re sub-60 I recommend a FT build. Since the recent patch lowered Juggernaut to a Master level trait, you can get that at 40 and have a really nice aoe kit that can take care of multiple foes, offers control (pbaoe blind, aoe knockback), and can sustain near constant burns. Not to mention 200 toughness and might stacking.
Speedy Kits is a great trait for 100% uptime swiftness. That’s good for open world travel and maintaining your distance for using FT but not getting smashed.
FT will get you used to Engi combat movement. Pair it up with rifle or EG for even more movement and control. EG is basically like having a 2nd #6 skill. You get a small regen/stunbreak with its toolbelt and a healing light field with the kit. Not to mention a slew of other great survivability tools.
At 60+ you can give Grenades a shot; the kit is a little lackluster without the Grenadier trait. It’s very strong for straight damage dealing, but imo offers little in the way of utility/survivability. You’ll always need to supplement it with other gadgets/kits/elixirs. Grenades are a great dungeon kit, but in open world is little more than a dps kit. It has a blind & chill, but I prefer active kit/weapon swapping for maximum efficiency.
A bit of a long response and no build posted (sorry) but I feel it’s better whilst leveling to try things out and figure out what tools work best for each situation. Check out gadgets. They got a boost from this last patch.
I am only lvl 29
Ok, at 40 I’d suggest picking up Juggernaut & trying out the Flamethrower. 20pts in Firearms for Fireforged Trigger & Juggernaut. I’d recommend 10 pts in Tools for Speedy Kits, giving you access to perma-swiftness. Makes roaming open world much faster, thus leveling faster. If swiftness isn’t important to you then 10pts in Alchemy. The minor 5pt trait is fantastic and I’d take Fast-Acting Elixirs along with Elixir B on your utility bar.
Until then, all I can do is give you some important traits you’ll want to pick up. Namely the Tools and Alchemy ones I mentioned above. Also, Firearms is a good traitline because it has a lot of traits that will boost the effectiveness of your guns, Hair Trigger being a good one.
I’ve been running a 20 (Incendiary Powder, Accelerant-Packed Turrets)/20 (Hair Trigger, Coated Bullets)/30 (Metal-Plated Turrets, something I can’t recall, and Rifled Turret Barrels)/0/0 build focused on Turrets (though it uses Healing Turret, Flame Turret, Rocket Boots and Throw Mine). It works surprisingly well, though I don’t place the Flame Turret all that often due to simply not needing it most of the time.
I am only lvl 29
Try out the Bomb Kit and see how you like it. Slot 10 points into Explosives for Forceful Explosives so they have a larger radius.
If you’re not a fan of that, put 10 points into Tools for Static Discharge and wield the Rifle. Provides good-to-great burst at a cost to your survivability; it’s a lot of fun. Sink the rest of your points into Firearms to bolster your Rifle (though 15 Tools is good as well for Inertial Converter).
I would shy away from other kits, at least early on. The Flamethrower only becomes effective with Juggernaut, which is unlocked at level 40. And the Grenade Kit is inferior to the Bomb Kit until you unlock Grenadier at level 60.
The Tool Kit is a more defensive style of play suited for sPvP/WvW, and the Elixir Gun is almost pure support, most useful in group-based PvE content and not soloing. You may find some nice synergy with Acid Bomb, but I genuinely believe that the Bomb Kit and Static Discharge are our two strongest leveling builds.

I just hit 80 on my Engi. While leveling I went Speedy Kits or Hair Trigger at 20. 40 gives you Speedy Kits and Static Discharge or Juggernaut and Fireforge Trigger or Hair Trigger and Rifle Mod. At 60 you can get Grenadier or HGH, Flamethrower and HGH works well together for leveling.
Survivability was rarely an issue while leveling.
At 80 I’m really enjoying a Static Discharge/Rifle build 0/30/0/10/30. Lotsa damage but lacks a lot of condition removal.
