I’ve been playing since BWE2. I’ve logged enough hours that my wife has noticed but no so many that I’m rocking multiple exotic sets on my numerous 80’s. But I’ve been playing…

And then I rolled an Engineer.

And I’m having a blast. More fun than any other profession I’ve played, which is a plus, except now I feel I’ve wasted all those hours (albeit fun hours) leveling classes that are not Engi. All the dyes I bought, all the map completion effort, all the holiday items acquired, all the crafting leveled…for nothing because this little Asuran Engi is so much fun I don’t think I’ll ever go back to my Ranger or Guardian or Necro.

I rolled an engineer first, I love it. Can do so many things, I am a fresh 80 and luckily carrion was CHEAP!!!!

I still suck at him from being new but reguardless he is still fun for not being good at a new MMO for me.

I love playing engineers. It is just fun and the gadgets are funny to use.

There is only class that might satisfy you.
Roll a mesmer and try to get to level 40 and you will also have a lot of fun.

Mesmer have the largest build diversity in comparison to all profession.

My main is Engineer. That must be why I only have 1 lvl 80 so far and the others are far below that.

I rolled a mesmer the same time i rolled my engineer. Got him to lvl 10 before I started playing with my engi. Haven’t gone back. He’s cool but engis…have flamethrowers!!

I tried rolling something other than Engi once. It was awful.

On a more serious note, I have alted time and again, but I keep going back to my Engi. It’s a combination of time, energy, and resources invested, and that the class is more fun for me than most others. My warrior did not go further thatn 65, and most others have barely breached level 20.

I almost wish I would have rolled another profession first just so I could of lvled them to 80 in blissful ignorance.
Instead I can barely gain a single lvl on my alt before I started wondering why the hell would I want to play this boring kitten class anyways.

I can never play a class with weapon swap after playing engineer, having a 10 second weapon swap cool down (or however long it is) just doesn’t feel right anymore.

Engi is my main (I have also 4 engi alts just for SP farm and story completition on different races) since bwe1 and i will never change it:-) Other classes are boring.

Yeah, the weapon swap delay is just wrong.

Every time I feel frustrated with my Eng I go back and level my Guardian a bit further. The way he does so much more damage, so much faster, while being so much more robust, is refreshing. Then, after a while, he gets to be same-old same-old, and I go back to my Eng.

Sadly, the latest patch damped my enthusiasm for my Eng – I’d just mastered a FT/EG based multi-kit build when the nerf to KR broke my freshly learned rhythm (turned out the KR visuals were helping me track which kit/weapon I was in). As a result my Guardian is finally about to hit 80. Fingers crossed the 26 March patch will refresh my enthusiasm for my Eng. (Don’t get me wrong, I still like my Eng, just don’t feel like trying to master anything else about it until after the patch, just in case that breaks something I’m using once again.) Till then it might be time to start a second alt -Ele maybe, they don’t seem to have too long CD on their attunements.

I also keep remembering of my leveling days with a couple of friends “Hey look, I can shoot a rocket out of my belt, HA!” It’s up to you to decide if you’re serious or not and you ALWAYS have something you can do during combat if you have kits.

I have renounced the easy CoF 1 farms, the easy PvP/WvW handling, and the nearly gamebreaking abilities many other classes had to offer, it was absolutely worth it.

For me, switching builds is a bit painful. I have a lot of gear for a tough/condi/prec based build, but I would love to have a set that supports each type of build I can play. be that torrents, explosives, elixirs and healing, or gadgets. The problem I find is that specializing, while neat, takes a lot more than simply changing a single trait, or even just doing a quick trait refund (cost there alone adds up though). I fell it is important to change around gear too.

I won’t deny its faults. Every class has them and Engi is no different. And because of its robust and varied playstyle I think fine tuning it is harder.

Regardless, I just can’t go back to my Ranger (old main) and pew-pew little arrows when my mini-Engi (Asura) totes around a (comparatively) massive flamethrower. Oooh…my Ranger called a flock of birds. My Engi dropped a complete salvo of grenades, bombs, and fire in like…6 seconds.
