Engineer Steampunk Gear
I recommend mix-and-matching for steampunk. These are what the available medium armors look like on a charr:

There really isn’t a lot of good looking Engineer armor. But if you mix and match you can come up with something that’s half way decent.
Hope you held on to your Engineers starter goggles. Those things are awesome.
Anyway here’s mine

The problem is that Sorrow’s Embrace medium armors are utter crap compared to their heavy and light variants. Very difficult to do anything steampunkish. Only thing close I could ever do was a royal guard variant of it on a Dishonored style.
I am also looking to make my character look steampunk!
This is pretty much what I’m going for on my engineer It depends really on if you like the longer coats or not. The marksman(?) top also looks pretty steampunk to me which isn’t a long coat.

Here’s a question, is conquest available for PVE players for currency like Karma?
Only the helmet isn’t available outside of pvp:

Very usefull website to find such things out!
I am not sure where the different armor pieces come from, sometimes you can also obtain them only through personal story; but that’s what the wiki is for

That one just reminds me of sackboy

Luckily it doesn’t remind me of sackboy.

The best piece of the Sorrow’s Embrace set, IMHO, is the shoulders.

Maybe on humans but on charr I thought it was the worst piece, its actually the only se piece I dont use lol Its not even symetrical
There is plenty of mix and matching you can do but charr is the most challenging… there tends to be alot of stretching and clipping issues with charr medium armors
For a female human I like the rascal boots, pants, gloves, slayer’s vest, outlaw mask.

But it IS, the worst piece, for the Charr. I’d kill to get the Heavy/Light variant, I actually met an engi having the light pauldrons bought during the time all the shoulder armors had the light mesh.

Oh wow lucky engie :/

Since when is “steampunk” about symmetrical aesthetics? If anything, steampunk tends to the asymmetrical. It looks great on asura too and not just humans.

I was just a detail, really. Whole thing about the medium shoulders being utter crap is that it’s just some bulky armor covering your neck and shoulders while the other variants have some awesome smokestack style meshes.
Be sure to check out some of the crafted skins. I liked the Rascal stuff for shoulders and chest. Haven’t found good gloves I like though, so those are still COF.
Rascal items look decently steampunkish. I thought my cyborg-asura mix has a certain steampunk flair to it. Unfortunately for our Charr buddies, it’s a mix of tier 1/2 Asura cultural.

I was kind of iffy on the Asura cultural gear but I think you may have sold me on the mix with the color choices you made. That looks really nice. Though I think that’s a mix of Tier 2 and 3 isn’t it? The Tier 1 is the one with the really weird “spiked hat” I think.
Yes, color goes a long way. Leather (midnight fire is great for dark leather) and copper/brass for metallic dye zones help a lot.
Currently working on a steampunkish look for my Asura Engineer as well using a few of the cultural pieces, though I was disappointed to find that on the T2 cultural the metallic disc in the center of the chest is the same dye zone as the shoulders, which doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.
You’re right, the main pieces are tier 2/3 and shoulders are tier 1.
I agree, midnight fire can go from pure black and darker than abyss on certain items, to a rich, dark burgundy that looks like has the depth of a finely dyed, glossy leather. I’m looking for a dye that matches the effect midnight fire has on the center metallic disc in the chest. Copper pot is close, depending on the surrounding light. Warm environments result in a copper/bronze color, cool environment make the center disc appear more like steel, or polished gunmetal grey.
I wish the T2 chest had more slots for color, too. The center disc should have 2 dye slots separate from the top/bottom half. Hell, common “pirate” chests have 4 dye slots. Why not an expensive cultural item?

Agreed on Midnight Fire. It does a really nice job on leather much of the time. In my picture above I used Mahogany though because it had a slightly more red lustre to it whereas I’ve tried Midnight Fire on the sidepanels of the leather duster and it ended up too brown.
For the metal bits on the goggles I used Antique Bronze and Brass dyes with a Mahogany strap. I like the way it came out. I’ve also used Pewter and Silver Lead to good effect on the goggles.
My prototype steampunk armour that I am deciding on transmuting onto exotic gear in the near future. I haven’t finalized on which dyes to use, but I wanted a steampunk form-fitting leather style and these armours/skins were all that I could find that I found suitable.

A guildie data mined some awesome steampunk skins yesterday. Can’t tell you what they are or where they come from the only tag that was linked was [PVP]. Light, Med and Heavy sets. He found a few weapons also. These are not in game yet but my guess is the next large content update will have steam punk elements. Maybe a dungeon set.
There are currently some good options but these that I saw last night really hit the mark.

Nice look, Ellybean.
And those data-mined skins look incredible. If they are only available in RNG coxboxes I will have to go have a cry in a corner.
Best i can tell, they will be in the gem store.
I am hoping the soon-to-be-released steampunk armors will be skins used for PvE and not towns clothes.
Well one can only hope they make us heavy armor again and or improve the number of gears on our clothing. I like straps as much as the next guy but cmon now.
I would also hope they make them armor clothes earnable in game with some kinda karma vendor and easily transmutable because even MattVisual is tired of the transmute stones.
