Turrets. Much talked about by everyone these days. Skip ahead to 12:20.

Well I give him credit. Unlike in the state of the game video, this guy actually seems like he knows what he is talking about, like he has actually seen an engineer before, and like he isn’t high.

My only gripe with this is its like…whats the point of a question if you cant say anything. I felt like Sharp had someone behind him with a gun to his head during everything he tried to explain. He literally spent most of the time explaining why he cant say “yes we’re doing that” to every question and the one thing he revealed “lfg system” he passeed the blame to the other guy for revealing it.

Arenanet corperate suit guy: “ok we’ll have a meet and greet where people will ask you questions….its your job to not answer ANY of th em, but talk about the list….and how they may or may not be on the list that may or may not actually exist. I swear to god if ANY of you even half way answers a question even remotely i’ll have your kitten on the street doing tricks for spare change and crack.”

um, that is jsharp, he WAS in the last sotg.

@Zinwrath I agree, I have taken notice of that being a general tendens whenever they actually go out to talk about upcoming stuff it turns into “Yeah, I really can’t talk about that, but we are looking into that area”! I really don’t get they have to be this strict about what they say! Give us some goodies!

for sure, but Sharp has my respect. He seems to know and care. But like…why have these events if you cant say jack about anything. Arenanet needs to back off on their strict policys and let the developers open discuss issues like Riot does with its employees. You can literally go on the forums at almost any time of day or night on LoL’s forums and get direct responce’s from developers regarding changes, upcoming projects, why they made changes, what their favorite other video games are, what changes the company made that they personally disagree with……hell even their lead champ designer told off some stupid kid on the forum for making a dumb comment, and instead of fully retracting what he said the president of the company just reponds “i’m glad my employees can speak their minds!”. like wtf. thats awesome!

Arenanet, stop being a nancy….if they say something that ticks off the player base, guess what…it wont tick them off as much as not saying ANYTHING AT ALL. I bet your devs are really cool people who would like to be more transparent and involved. Dont end up making the same mistake SOE john smedly did and end up having to give a “yup..we f’d up…guess we shoulda been more involved with our community” speech.

The fact that they let us know they are aware and doing something about it, its enough alot better than not knowing anything

His last line sounds…promising, if you run it through an “I can’t actually talk about anything definite…” filter.

“Something like that might be…already being talked about.” There’s a slight hesitation between the be and the already, like he may have been about to say one thing but then remembered what he’s supposed to say, which is functionally nothing.

The fact that he said it in general kind of gives me the feeling that it is being talked about or is on the way.

@Anymras, Yeah, they for sure appear to be talking aobut stuff, which is great knews I gues? I just wish they would care to explain a bit more, and open up for us! Pretty much what @Zinwrath wrote about Riot, is a great and honest way to work the community!

Yeah, it would be nice if they would talk to the community more often, or at the very least more openly. Letting the players know that they are being paid attention to is an important thing. Otherwise, it can feel like there’s a disconnect, and that can make it even more frustrating when things aren’t working properly.

I can understand why they don’t, though – people lose their kitten easily, and some of the more vocal opponents of (X) change will oppose it regardless of the reasoning behind it, and be noisy enough about it to kitten other people off. The PR people might mostly see the ranting and decide it was a bad move to let people talk openly, or the people doing the talking might get discouraged by the response, if it’s noisy enough ranting.

I love how J-Sharp talks about every profession complaining how their not loved, yet there is data after data suggesting that the Engineer & Ranger are losing people yet they pull this crap in an interview. J-Sharp sees the world through sPvP, not large scale PvP in WvW. That’s why he is constantly defending the devs actions surrounding the Engineer.

Give it up J-Sharp, you know just like the rest of the community that Engineers/Rangers are the least played profession and it is going to take “more dev love” to fix them. I hope with the patch today you fixed some things, but you have a very long way to go.

Well if you look at every class forum they all very loudly complain they are the least paid attention to and require tons of fixes and changes. I can easily see where he’s coming from for that. I even hear it in terms of guild discussion, where in many cases I hear “The Engineer got the most love in State of the Game” and then I turn around on these forums and hear the exact opposite. Perception is a funny thing.

In terms of what he can deliver for specific information, when are people going to realize he can’t? If he says they are planning on doing X for turrets and they decide they can’t do that and instead do Y, these forums would be lit on fire with flames. Or perhaps we don’t like X, they would be lit on fire regardless of whether they decided to get rid of it on their own. There wouldn’t be any productive discussion on here for weeks, and many people could feel betrayed or some nonsense. It’s been pretty well established that MMO devs in most situations cannot release details about stuff that isn’t literally set for certain into the patch release.
