Engineer creation question? :D
No idea- They might with the new expanding skills/traits and weapons
That said, Flamethrower is pretty close range- I don’t know if I want to get more melee than that.

I don’t know about you, but the bomb kit definitely qualifies as a melee weapon to me. It’s point blank AOE and very effective.
I ment real melee, i dont want ugly backpacks on my back :P
If you don’t want ugly backpacks on your back, don’t play an Engineer. Kits are the professions class mechanic and in all honestly if you don’t use kits, you’re gimping yourself so badly it’s not worth rolling.
It really is that simple.
yup- wear your hobo sack with pride or just don’t go there :P
I basically hear “Hey, I want to play a profession of which I dislike all the core mechanics, do you think they’ll change them around completely?”
I think the safe answer to this would be “No.”
Their mechanic is mostly the toolbelt, kits is just one type of utlity, if engineers can drop using gadgets the can do the same with kits

The thief’s mechanic is stealing, stealth are just one type of effect. Yet strangely enough, no good thief I’ve seen would give up stealth. Engineer kits are the same way. You technically can play without them, but the only viable builds without them are quadturret (only viable in sPvP and WvW camp flipping, and even then only more effective than any other build in sPvP) and some P/P or Rifle HGH build (which will never, under any circumstances, trump the damage of HGH Nades or HGH FT). Kits are an essential part of an engineer; almost every viable build will have one or two, and some even go up to four.
Also, please recognize that you’re going onto the engineer forums, hearing what experienced engineer mains say, and responding with “I know your class better than you, so shut up.”
Ferguson’s Crossing
The only way to play without kits is to play with elixirs/gadgets. Choose either of the 3 weapon set-ups and realize you aren’t gonna be maxing out. maybe go with rifle and get the trait that says rifle/harpoon gun deal 15% more dmg.
Oh, there are also turrets but they are a bit broken except the healing one.

Lol are we talking about the same class? because i most definitely dont rely on my toolbelt lol…its all about 1+ kits
I determined that the honosack looked godawful in CG and selected the headgear instead. Very nice, replicated by several similar head pieces, and very easy to transmute. No hobosack issues here.
fans hate Joffrey. They hate her the way Star Wars
fans hate Jar Jar Binks.”-not a direct quote, but still true.

It’s very hard to find a build that doesn’t use at least one kit, even if you are prioritizing elixirs/gadgets.
Toolkit and bomb kit is melee and flamethrower is almost melee has a really short range. But their ranged dmg is actually pretty good i do always +2k dmg per rifle shot. Their not really that strong in melee nothing compared to warrior. I still love my engineer i like to go around with 4 kits. Really hope they add more kits when the new skills are released
Wait, you started this thread twice? Oh. Well ignore my other reply.
And yeah, if you don’t like kits don’t roll an engineer.
Even if you could make an effective build without a kit, the shear lack of abilities and things to do would bore you to death.
I’ve tried no-kit builds in the past; forget about viability, it simply is not remotely fun.
The funnest way to play an Engineer to me is like a non-magic Elementalist. Swapping through a few different kits to have as many abilities on hand as possible, finding ways to effectively combo them together.
