When playing I’m constantly switching guns to gain distance from the mobs when I’m playing solo (even while with others occasionally).

I use the rifle, so I usually open up with just the regular attack and then net/evade and keep attacking then do the big shot followed up with the knock back.

If I happen to pull more, I’ll switch to Flamethrower, blow them back, lay down the healing turret, switch to Elixer Gun throw down healing -> mist and then go back to rifle/flame thrower depending on how close they are.

If they get on me, I’ll just lay down the Flame line and do the rifle’s stomp attack then detonate my turrets for some big aoe.

The puddle skill that throws you back (Elixer Gun) is good to get some distance too.

Am I over complicating it? I like the play style of keep enemies at a rifle’s distance.

Anyone use the rocket and rifle turret?

Thanks,

Justin

I rarely use turrets, but I frequently use both Elixir Gun (dunegons) and Flamethrower. I think most Engineers recognize themself in the way of playing you described.

That’s good to know. Seems like you emphasized Elixer Gun for dungeons specifically, what’s the reason? Do you do more of a healing role? Oh and by the way, what level can you start doing dungeons?

Thanks for you reply : )

I… don’t use any kit.
I use a rifle. Hit a mob, when it’s about melee range I use the 5th skill near me. Then the 3rd one, followed by the 4th.

They usually die on the 3rd skill

What about on champ fights and stuff? If I’m not focused, I’ll usually throw down a Flame wall at its feet and throw out the big ball o’ fire. Afterwards, switching back to rifle to either use skill 5 (F in my case) or immobilize the Champ and resume auto fire.

If I use the Jump Shot ability, I’ll usually hit the shrapnel shot and evade backward to drop a bomb (or knock them back if it’s off of cd).

I apply healing from Elixer Gun when needed and keep healing turret up in a useful spot if I can help it.

When on killing quests, I usually don’t just kill one at the time. I’ll pull 2 or 3 and keep them away while setting up my AoE combos. I might start running Bomb Kit when playing with my buddies.

Oh! Are there any addons or a way in game to keep track of the cool downs for the weapons/kits that aren’t currently equipped?

Sounds a bit like mine. I usually run rifle with Flamethrower, Grenade Kit, and Toolkit if I’m soloing. Lots of utility there. If I’m in a dungeon, I’ll switch out Toolkit for Elixir R to revive teammates from a distance. I do a lot of knocking back, snaring, and crits.

My turret is so much better at this game than I am.

I run a rifle/turret build. Typical skills used: Healing, Rocket, Rifle, and Net Turrets, with Supply Crate for the Elite.

Rocket Turret is pretty okay, especially with its overcharge combining damage with control. Toolbelt skill is useful as a preliminary bit of damage, or a little bit of revenge for destroyed turrets – or a followup to detonation, whatever.

Rifle Turret also inflicts minor condition damage, while hitting more often; quite useful as a harrying tool. Toolbelt skill is pretty useful, as well, as it has a short cooldown and no animation, allowing you to use it often, even while otherwise incapable of action.

As you prefer to keep enemies at a distance, I might recommend the Net Turret as well – keeping enemies at a distance, after all, is the entire reason I began using it. With Rifle, Net Turret and Net Turret Toolbelt skills, you can keep enemies immobilized for quite some time, though timing is something of an issue.

I’m currently running on Rifle /w Elixir U (8-12 shots off in a quick burst) and B IIRC (the purple one that gives Might). Healing turret and flamethrower rounds out the bottom skill list, but I only have the latter equipped for the toolbelt skill these days. As of now traits are 0/20/0/20/7, with elixir time changes and distance/damage for rifle. Alternate kits are toolkit and grenade (the latter has shown promise).

This worked great at the lower and mid levels, but now its beginning to fray at the ends (though I mostly solo right now) and leveling is slow. I will probably swap to tankcat/grenadier once I have access to the grandmaster traits book.

I think part of it is my combat style with the rifle – I circle-strafe (a habit after so many years of Half Life and its kin), and would advise others to reconsider that idea when you’re wielding a piercing weapon in an open field. :-) Been killed a couple times by shooting a stray ‘yellow’ mob I didn’t see until later. And Flamethrower in that format misses way more than I’m happy with. I am hoping grenades will open up a better (and perhaps safer) fighting style. ;-)
