Hey all!
I’ve just started gearing up my engineer and don’t really know which stats I should choose. I’m considering Berserker and Knight or a combination of those, and maybe Rampager or Rabid. But TBH I don’t know much about engineers as it is my first (and a first character in GW2 anyway).
I’ll appreciate any suggestion you could give me
Depends on what content you play. If you’re 100% PvE, zerker all the way.
If you WvW then you’ll obviously need to tailor your gear to your build. Are you conditions or power? I personally use a full set of Celestial armor with 6/6 Travelers runes and then supplement my build with various trinkets.
Well it depends on what you’re trying to do really. Pve I’d always suggest zerk. PvP/wvw you would want some toughness maybe but some people still run glass cannon builds. Engis have very good bunker builds. Then you need to figure out what kits you like so you can decide on power or condition builds. I’ve always tried to focus on what I’m there to do instead of being a jack of all tried type stat set up.

I tried WvW but for now I think I’ll stick mainly with PVE. I thought that berserker is good for that, but I’ve heard it’s going to be nerfed, and anyway – engineers don’t have a great HP.
Engies don’t rely on high HP to live, they rely on obscene amounts of toughness, and medium hp. At least that’s my personal take. I run a Flame Tank, which is basically an appropriately trait-ed flamethrower Engie.
I run both for PvE, WvW, and as anyone in WvW know, PvD >.>
What this means is, I’m mid-line combat, which annoys the Commanders to no end. “Are you Ranged or Melee?”
“Yes.”
But I digress, point is you’re going to be in the immediate area of the fight, so you want enough toughness to survive a short walk through the AoE, but enough mobility to make sure it’s a short walk.
Suggested Traits: Flame Tank
Juggernaut: Bonus Toughness + Might with flamethrower.
Power Shoes: +25% movement speed
Infused Precision: Swiftness on Critical
Invigorating Speed: Gain Vigor when you gain swiftness, you can dodge lots more.
What traits you want for damage is up for you, but those last 3 work pretty good for staying alive, as long as you keep moving.
KDXX – thanks! I really like flamethrower, so I’m going to try it out. TBH “mid-line” is what I had in mind, when I was choosing an engineer.
Could you tell me what stats are you using then? I’m pretty new to GW, so I don’t know how some things are called exactly, but by HP I meant toughness. That’s why I said I’m considering Knight’s gear, as it is toughness-power-precision.
I’m a huge believer in play what you think is fun but just an FYI some people in dungeon runs and fractals will not like the fact you are running FT since it is poor DPS. Just steer clear of speed runs and you should be fine.
The autoattack in particular, since it does approximately the same dps as pistol auto. Flame blast and napalm are OK.
