Engineer needs his Hammer.
I would love a hammer – it isn’t even much of a stretch, lorewise, as they can be used to construct and repair fortifications.
As for skills:
I’ve seen Rocket Hammer effects be suggested several times. I’d like a fortification ability, perhaps something that throws up a short-duration (possibly five seconds or so) Palisade with a small amount of health and Retaliation, or a longer-duration version with no Retaliation, that functions solely as a movement restrictor.
I’d love having a hammer. It is pretty understandable tho-engineers need hammer. Maybe just melt it with the toolkit (repairs turrets when attacking), that would actually mean we can use more than 2 attack turrets and actually do some damage. (Nowadays, you have to have a toolkit, which means you can’t have more than 2 attack towers. And the healing tower with it’s lackluster heal :-( which sucks)
If not hammer, then mace+shield (same idea)
Well, if only they fixed Power wrench, you would have an autoattack that perma-cripples people.
However, many warriors, guardians and thieves learned the hard way meleeing a bunker engineer with bombkit is NEVER a good idea.
because he doesn’t know it himself
I’m not opposed to the idea of a hammer for engineers. It made more sense than the two dual shield concept I was working on. And the best part is that it can be our long range skirmish weapon of choice (considering rifle is short ranged and pistol is medium range). Easier to make up long ranged attacks using a hammer instead of a main hand shield.
The engineer class is made for utilities, mechanics, bombs, grenades, and marksmanship…. Why would they put a hammer for a weapon when that goes completely against the point of the class?

Because hammers are construction tools, and it’s hardly difficult to come up with some crazy bullkitten that feels engineer-y anyway.
By that thought, we’re also supposed to get an aqua based weapon to match the land-aqua weapon pairing of most classes (meaning if a melee land weapon is made available to a profession, there’s a corresponding melee aqua weapon for it, same with ranged).
I’m not saying no. I’m just putting it on the table for thoughts.

I’ve said it before I’ll say it again…
Power Gloves
Electro Punch (Discharge based melee) – Rocket Punch (gap closer) – Thunder Clap (AoE daze) – Thumbs Up! (buff) – Ground n’ Pound (AoE burn/cripple)

Now this just looks like a kit, unless the suggestion is to add an entire new weapon category (power gloves, from the look of it). As part of my support of the Hammer comes from the idea of being able to use a straight-up melee weapon without needing to use a kit, I pretty much have to go “God kitten it that is a kit, and it’s not even related to hammers, why does somebody always post kit ideas in ‘give Engineer hammer’ threads.”
It’s not like I’m mad, just…man, every time.
I too would love to see mace or hammer as options (especially hammer as it currently only shows up on two classes)
EDIT: and, let’s face it, we don’t need ANOTHER silly looking legendary

Hehe. I hear you…and yes I want an engineer specific two-handed melee weapon set even if it doesn’t exist in a separate class already.
Let me put it this way. The hammer is different from the existing kits and weapons in that they are some kind of tech (low or high or bio). I simply propose an alternate in a similar flavor.
The purpose of a thread is usually to invite discussion and whether my post is tongue-in-cheek or not don’t get frustrated :P
A Hammer would be pretty cool on an Engi, but I think Mace would be just as good (since Shield could compliment it very well depending on how they style it). Got my support on both blunt striking objects being used by Engi.
Plus, who else could really take advantage of this Mace skin: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fixer_Upper
Just to be clear, what I intended in the post, was that engineers can EQUIP a hammer, not in a kit, but as a two handed weapon. It would be interesting to have it at the very least not as a high damage slow moving two hander, but for example a turret buffer. Fixing all turrets, Buffing the damage, Increasing range, Fortifying (50% less dmg) etc..

I think a two handed hammer would be a great short range weapon idea. Simple two or three hit small aoe swing on #1 with a reasonable cripple or vulnerability condition on the last hit. #2 as a single target pure damage hit, no condition effect on it as it would make it really similar to the prybar we already have on the tool kit. Other skills being something like a whirl finisher knockback, maybe a hammer throw ground targeted thing stunning or causing confusion, and then something I like to think of as fortification. Not sure how it would be shown graphically in game, but it’d grant 5 or so seconds protection and stability to self at the cost of movement speed. Would probably slow you down the amount of being chilled. Would work great with bomb and tool kits, and whatever that trait is that gives you increased crit chance while standing still (if that even works). I dunno. I’m stupid tired right now and I’m really not sure if any of that stuff made sense.
I do find it interesting that Engineers are the only class that don’t get a melee selection for their base weapon.
Sure, we get Tool Kit, but shouldn’t we also get a melee choice for bae weapons? I won’t talk about what melee weapon we should get because none of them really meet our class (even hammer).
Loudmouth, lousy PvPer, and mediocre PvEer.
I don’t own, I just play

One of the reasons I get the feeling the Kits were supposed to be the Engineer’s unique mechanic, until they realized they were essentially giving the Engineer attunements – no base melee weapon and incredibly restricted weapon selection.
I can see a war hammer paired with a shield as an Engineer choice.

actually, that would be pretty sweet for a class mechanic.
we have a weapon kit we can switch to, but outside of battle we can change what the kit is. that would free up our slot skills, give them a good reason to buff practically all of our utilites and damage.
on the other hand, i kind of like tool belt skills. some skills like grenade barrage and big o bomb are pretty iconic.

I would play a dual-shield class in a heartbeat, even if it made no sense and was horrible.
I think the main thing holding back hammer is that hammers seem to be melee cc weapons. We already have a melee cc weapon, only it’s rifle. It would just feel…weird to choose rifle for melee, hammer for range…but maybe that’s just me.
I think hammer as a one-hander would be cool, since currently main hand pistol is the only option for including a shield. It would end up feeling a lot like toolkit, though.
