Engineer needs more combos...
I just started playing engineer. After having many other classes, it feels like engineer doesnt have a whole lot of combos and when a combo should be appropriate i.e. Flamethrower flameBLAST, it’s not even a finisher? What? Bomb kit has a couple fields, grenades too, no finishers aside from f skills though… what gives?
Let’s see, a typical ft/eg build can have 3 blast finishers to work with 1 if using shield, 1 from acid bomb, 1 from rocket boots and two different fields fire and light. This is probably the lowest blast finisher amount for a kit engi. If you use a bomb kit and any of the turrets especially healing turret you can get significantly more off, there are people that are more than capable of doing 5 blasts in the short waterfield duration from overcharging the healing turret, or 5 in the fire field so on and so forth….that’s right 5 blasts in a very short time frame.
To echo ShadowPuppet, engie is king of the burst blast, with 5-6 blast finishers available in one go, and access to Fire, Smoke, Water, Light, and Poison fields.
Just started engineer, please play with it more, then come back and tell us. I have played all 8 classes, and I could dare say, Engine is the class that has the most trick up his sleeves. Don’t jump to conclusion so soon.

lol and he asks what gives…inexperience thats what.
The Engineer is actually the only class in the entire game that utilizes PvE’s three strongest combo fields: Fire, Water, and Light. The Engineer actually has access to six of the nine total Combo Fields—more than any other class in the game.
The Engineer also has regular access to 3 of the 4 Combo finishers in the game (Elixir X is a Whirl finisher but I digress), meaning we’re the most versatile combo class in the game. And they’re not just toolbelt skills. Magnetic Inversion is a Blast finisher. Static Shield is a Projectile finisher. Jump Shot is a Leap finisher. Etc. Etc. Etc.
Get a little more experience with the class before you jump to conclusions. Engineer is one of the best boon battery classes in the game, and a lot of that comes from its versatility with combo fields.

Considering the toolkits taking space for the utility finishers(instead having to route yourself through a kit into a skill to find the combo) maybe its the fact of just being used to having many finishers at my disposal with normal weapon skills and utilities that makes me feel like it could have more than what it does.. (I have a lot of experience with ele guard war and thief)
But I mean, doesn’t it feel like there are skills (like flamethrower flame blast) that should be combo-something at least? Or is this just me? Just seems you need to take great lengths to end up with combos while a lot of skills feel like (from past experience) they should have some sort of combos.

That is your feeling because you are being too greedy. Engineer is the class that has the most blast finisher and access to many various combo field already. Anymore than this, the forum will QQ non-stop.

It’s me being too greedy or it’s me expecting to have more because of my experience with a class such as elementalist who get’s access to a ton of easy to manage combo fields?
You could be less demeaning, but whatever. I guess engineer just needs a higher learning curve to access same amounts of combos as ele.
You and me both play Eles. I play Eles first before coming to Engineer, but we both have different opinion. I have 1000+ hours on my Eles, on all aspects of the game and have the title of Champ Magus in PvP. Switch to Engine, I am so jealous at how the class functions. I clearly see that Engine is WAY easier to do combo with so many Blast Finisher we have compared to Eles as long as you know what is in order. Funny enough, Eles being advertised as being versal but I find that description is Way more right to Engine. All you need to know is the order in which need to be excuted first. For example, with my Engine, I can heal for 10k+ in 2s in which I can never achieve on my Eles.

Ok you gotta chill lol. Its understandable that some skills the engy has seem at first glance that you expect them to be a finisher but are not. This is true enough. Now if they should or should not be is a matter of debate, but while I prefer that the engineer have more finishers, they are not lacking in them. I can’t see how engy being that much more versatile considering Ele getting 5 skills per F key as a given.
Engineer can deal with a lot of various situation compare to Eles since they practically Eles with Kit but lack of Stunbreaker if you go with Trip Kit like i did. Also Kit is much much better than Atuunment Swap since it bears no CD, means you can swap in and out at will. Plus the access to a lot of combo field and Blast Finisher are also Engine strong point over Eles.
Eles, while it may be true more sustain than Engine but we lack of the versatile to deal with many different situation like Engine. For example, Eles stuck in melee or Range depend on weapon choice. Attument CD is also a minus compare to Engine since it is being affected by ICD which is 15s,10s if trait. Because of this Eles pretty much is forced to put in at least 20 pts in Arcane trait to be optimal for most situation, hence reduce the build you can take.
My conclusion is Engine is more flexible compared to Eles. That come from me, who play Eles for a long time.
