Hey guys just came back to gw2 after 5 months. Going to give engineer a try. I can not decide on a race. I have narrowed it down to charr or asura, because they are the most lore friendly.

My main question is which looks better in medium armor in your opinion. I like the temple armor a lot, but not really sure on others.

Oh also do you think engineer will be getting some melee kits or main weapons any time soon. The sniper rifles do look really cool, but asura’s weapons are soooo small.

Asura is the correct choice of race for all classes!

Charr is by far the best for engi. It fit’s their lore personally and is a cool race.

If you intend on doing lots of pvp then Asura, for PvE/Dungeons/Fractals, it’d be Charr. Asura are small and hard to target, which means precisely nothing in non-PvP, but the Charr’s racial Hidden Pistol is a nice free evade. That and Iron Legion PS can end up in the 1-10 bracket where you’re controlling a specialized giant artillery gun to wipe out hordes of Ascalonian Ghosts while a Blood Legionnaire is hurling insults at them specifically to drive them out to be slaughtered by the aforementioned ghost-killed artillery cannon.

Asura. When u drop a bomb bigger than ur toon…u know u made the right choice. Also asura with a flame thrower never gets any less awesome.

Asuras are rats, and who beat rats? Yeah, Charr kingrace.

Asura is always the right answer. The hobosacks look best and the animations and smarmy quips are the best. You’ll be a pocket sized explosion machine.

I was a Charr at game release, but switched to Asura, the way chars shoot rifles is beyond stupid, their whole coat lifts up like they just farted a big one.

Not to mention how the armors look on Charr, yeugh, sorry big Charr fan here, i loved everything, but having to look at “stretched textures” and coat farts gets tiring fast.

if you want more engineering “themed” racial skills then asura or iron legion charr (for purposes of your legion pals) are your best bet… other than that its just about the looks of a giant cat or a yoda wannabe

and it is worth mentioning your flamethrower visual but not effecftive range is based on your size at the moment so charr and norn get a huge flame jet visual stretching near to twice the actual range

A tree playing with fire is not very smart.

Sylvari are alive, thus greenwood – fire isn’t any more risky to them than it is to humans or animals.

Asura for the size/smaller animations or human female (dress her like a strumpet and people might think she’s a thief at a glance).

If you want a look that does not involve trench coats or long coats, then Sylvari (Tier 2/3 Cultural) is the way to go. Even then, its a tailcoat, but not as noticeable.

I’d put an honorable mention on Charr, as Call Warband makes for an interesting alternate elite (especially in personal story).

If you’re that worried about coats and tail-farts for charr, get a magiteck or aetherblade medium set (Mix of both in this case) for a charr. They look great!

Asura are more of a humanoid shape than Charr. Most armor won’t look as bizarre on an Asura when compared to a Charr. With that said, Charr are much larger so it’s easy to see your cool weapons and back skins you worked hard for.

In LOTRO I rolled a Hobbit because I just thought it was great to be the smallest little creature taking on huge trolls and such. I employ the same idea in GW2, I love being the tiny little Asura taking on all these huge enemies all the time.

Some find Asura humor annoying. Personally I enjoy it. You’ll get a lot of it, so that’s up to you if you like it or not.

Also, Asura = master race.
