Engineer's flamethrower...
That sounds more like you are running into some graphical glitch.
I play a flamethrower engineer and I’ve never seen something like you’re describing. Try submitting a bug report and/or contacting customer service.
Sorry it bugs you but there’s not much the forums can do about it.
Could it be a sigil effect?
Hmm… I’ve noticed other people saying they saw the same thing when we were playing together. It wasn’t the flamethrower itself, but the ambient light it put off would kinda strobe really quickly. I’ll try to submit a bug report next time I see it.
Yeah, I’d say your experience is atypical.
May be a a graphical artifact or some unfortunate atypical physical thing, like the non-trivial amount of people who are nauseated from N64 First-person shooters.
Get a screen shot,
On the options menu, go to graphics, then make sure your vertical sync box is checked. I had the same problem; when i checked the vertical sync box, it solved the problem for me.
I have the same problem. Vertical Sync make things better, but drops framerate. Without Vertical Sync FT animation glitch can cause an epilepsy.
i personally love the fire effect from flamethrower and think its really well done but i dunno
It is not a problem with fire animation. Its is a problem with light effect. I think light effect triggers every tick of auto attack and that cause a glitch.
is this just from charrs/norns or from humans/asuras too? possibly a size thing? since it scales

It seams to be true. My small scaled norn engi have only small glitches with FT, but my smallest size Asura have the most ridiculous light glitches.

Well what do you expect?! All those weird experiments you asura do probably made you radioactive. Guess it’s time to blow up rata sum!

Things to try
In Game
Turn off ANet’s arguable terrible post processing
On monitor/In Windows
Turn down brightness on monitor
Turn down contrast on monitor
Turn down vibrance on monitor or windows settings
lower Gamma
Other
Are you running SweetFX or similar?
Tone down Vibrance
Tone down bloom
don’t try all these at once, the game will become very dark and washed out
