I’ve been playing engineer since release and have looked at the patchnotes every time, here are a few things i noticed.
We get nerfed almost ever class patch. Very few, it not any, buffs to our class despite the community crying out to give us something. Grenades are usually debuffed despite it being something that considered “op” they are all skill shots and very easy to dodge.
We also get the occasional bug fix, however we still have a lot.
I thought about it a lot, and here is my general feel about engineers, keep in mind the whole out look and playstyle to engineers was and still is pretty unique in MMOs. They really didn’t have a whole lot of ideas on how engineer was going to and is going to work in conjunction with other classes. PvE, engineers can dominate, however PvP they are still slacking in both WvW and sPvP (except for grenades). I think what we all need to do is wait, make our post about the problems (which im sure anet has a hefty and large list of them all) and wait for them to fix them.
Anet im sure wants to make engineers viable, but they are probably wanting to make them unique and keep with the original design. They probably don’t want to make them overpowered.
Now I’m not too upset about the patch. Even though I still feel about 14 of our skills are useless in the pvp field (when I say useless I mean compared to other classes on how good they are), and then 4 of the skills that are useful are based on random affects, the other classes that I have a huge problem with did get nerfed. I’m very happy about this. I am also very happy about toolkit. I will probably be using this in WvW for taking people off of their walls.
IMPORTANT NOTE: I’ve explored the forums and people are saying when it says “in pvp only” they mean spvp. So our grenade domination in WvW might ( i have yet to test) still be there! We just got a projective increase too to help us land them grenades).
But I will probably occasionally use the engineer in wvw and mostly play PvE with him. Ill level up and play with a necro or another class that is viable, i still think that engineers will eventually become a class that isn’t only wanted for their bunkering ability.
But the main point of this post is.
1. The patch is good with all the other aspects except the engineer. I’m not very mad about it.
2. When it says in PvP only, they mean spvp (I have yet to test)
3. I’m sure anet knows the engineer is underpowered, but i really don’t feel they are too confident on the possibilities they have thought up to help fix it. I’m sure they’re doing all they can to test and see what works best without breaking us.
4. I know a lot of the traits still dont work, and this is the same as 3. They probably tried to fix it, and the fix might have broken something else. I really doubt they ignored them, they probably are running into a lot of speed bumps.
