I personally feel, and I’ve played with a few engineers that are the same, is that we are not bad. No no, we can do just fine. But at the current state of the classes, this is what I feel the problem is, taken from various people on the forum…

We are the jack of all trades, but the masters of none.
We can do everything, but at the same time nothing.
We can hold our own, but only with a teammate.
We are the Rube Golberg class of this game.

The thing about engineers is that we can do great dps, great everything. However, in order to do that we have to go through a complex skill combo. We have to do things that a warrior can do every 10 seconds with a touch of a button. We have to do things that a thief can do easily. All these other classes can do what engineers do, but with significantly less APM (actions per minute). However all these things we can do, however complex it takes to accomplish, we aren’t the #1 at. Sure grenades are great in WvW, but that is our only “viable” dps spec that can hold its own without having to suffer from long cooldowns. This spec is also very very very boring (pop all your buffs, 1.1.1.2.3.4.5.6.1.1.1.1.1.1). I love see explosions everywhere as much as the next guy, but it gets bland after the while.

I’ve played every class, and every class makes their skill combos a hell of a lot more interesting. Sure we can spec differently to make it interesting, but we suffer. Well suffer DPS or support potential. Although we can do these things well, we aren’t great.
Engineer is the only class I feel is being forced to be behind the teammates. I feel like we are the wingmen in everything we do. While mesmers, warriors, and thiefs can do massive DPS, we can’t nearly touch that amount.

So engineers aren’t bad, they are just overly complicated compared to the rest of the classes while produce a less effective outcome. I personally feel like we should be getting more bang for our buck.

But that is just my 2cents on the engineer class. I’ve played each other class significantly in spvp and this is my opinion on the whole matter.
