Equipping Elexirgun makes me SUPER squishy !
Not missing anything tho Jon has stated that there are some fixes coming. They do seem to be seeing the same things we are.
I do hope they enhance the traits a bit like expand the juggernaut to include the EG for example so we have better protection since equipping the EG nerfs our dps like crazy right now even in all cond gear.
Crappy elixir gun DPS is the reason I use it as a secondary kit. I’ve heard that the weakness/fumble effects that the primary attack applies is useful for reducing the attack power of single targets (e.g. bosses), but I think its rather impractical for large groups unless you’re specced for Condition Damage (and probably even impractical then).
As a grenadier who also wants to provide some support for my party I have elixir gun equipped as my secondary and use it for the following means:
(1) When my primary kit is recharging, swap to elixir gun.
(2) Drop a Super Elixir field in the following situations (teammate low on HP and struggling to keep up with self-heals, teammate downed and I cant revive due to having aggro, party bunching up and fighting from one static position, etc)
(3) Fumigate when party afflicted with multiple status ailments or to add status ailments to the enemy
(4) Attacks 1, 2, and 4 against bosses mainly
(5) Swap back to main kit and continue DPSing
When equiping kits, you lose stats/sigil from ur weapons (Rifle – P/P – P/S) so that might be what your feeling. But like tigirius said, Jon is on it soon – https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/Generell-questions-about-kits-sigils/first#post928672
Elixir gun exists for Kit Refinment and Super Elixir. 4 is super situationally good.

I would prefer if it had some additional effect to it, maybe poison or vuln if they remain on the area, or an increased area. The damage is okay, but the enemy needs to stand on the tiny, tiny spot for the whole duration for it to be worthwhile.
The jump part of it is amazing though
Egun isn’t meant, imo, to be equipped as a primary weapon. Its a support tool for group condition removal, additional heals and mob debuff…. a couple of clicks then back to your primary or grenades. Or whatever.

I’ve noticed this too… I credited it to hitting 80 recently, and getting used to my new gear in higher level zones. But I feel a bit squishier than I did previously.
I still almost never go down though, with my PVE control build.
Keep in mind, you do lose the stats of your primary weapon(s) on equipping any kit. So if you have your pistols/shield or rifles with Vit or Toughness, you do lose that while having a kit like Egun out.
For the toast!
Correct, Elixir Gun is pure support. It’s not meant to do much damage (although #2 and #4 actually do pretty well) but it essentially has the most party support you could ever hope to get out of a single utility slot.
The only reason to “stay in elixir gun” for very long would be to continuously apply weakness to a single target (actually pretty useful against PvE bosses and against some PvP builds).
Yeah, with power, 2 and 4 do surprisingly nice amounts of damage, 4 on static objects in particular. The auto attack can stack bleeds nice if you have condition dam/duration. I use it underwater with Elixir U often. But indeed, it’s primarily support.

bit side-topic: but the only thing EG #4 needs is a cripple or even an immobilize.
EG #2 needs to fly faster.
Those are about the only things I would change.
Without saying they shouldn’t fix any existing bugs or stat issues of course.
Seems the dev’s are working on it, so we can only wait and see on that part.
