Please fix the engy mortar elite it has so many problem that need to be fixed! The attacks dont crit (which cant be intentional b/c Lich form #1 crits, hits harder, pierces, and allow you to be mobile). the attacks delay and fire at funky timings. Please fix this skill so it can be useful cause as it is now no one uses it…

lol those delays…. If it wasn’t for the random no fire, or random stuck, or repetition of the camara… I would deff use this as my main… I love ’em frost fields!

Engineers only have 2 Elite skills, and have a unique class feature granting them the ability to wipe some hot wet dog !@$# off their boot and into that Elite slot.

You would figure they would have reworked it by now considering its current state, but then think about what they did for it during Junes super balance patch….they reduced the cd on ice mortar from 30 to 20. Its cds are not the reason that people don’t use it, its problems are much bigger that cannot be fixed by just lowering cd. Its then when I realized anet is oblivious to why mortar sucks and/or just dont give a crap about it.

Engies have made a few posts about it since the game released and not much has changed, when it comes to mortar it just feels like were talking to a wall about our problems. I wouldnt hold my breath for any siginificant changes or even bug fixes for it soon.

The mortar skills are fine as it is, it’s just little details

3 things that could be done to improve the mortar could be:

  1. make if so you “get on the mortar” as soon as you use the skill without needing to press F to go in it the first time, like elementalist’s conjure weapon. It’s clunky and it bugs out the mortar having to “F” right after you summon it
  2. Delay/Stuck/No-Fire Bug fixes
  3. Dont let it auto fix the camara.. 99% of the time the camara ends up on akward positions that bugs with walls, rocks, trees and with the delays, it makes it a suicide skill on a fast action battle

Additional..

Remove the minimum range req, allow us to shoot at our feet to give us a change to deal with meele(at least pushing them away with #5)

Mortar needs so much work it’d be easier to scoop the dog !@#$ up and throw it away before someone else steps in it. It needs:
- Higher Rate of Fire
- Higher Damage
- Larger field of fire (range)
- Shorter Cool Downs
- Melee Range Viability
- More durability (easily destroyed)
- Bug fixes for camera
- Bug fixes for firing
- Balancing to prevent Thieves from boon stealing 2m of stability over and over and over again.

Face it folks, even if they fix ALL of that, it’s still a situationally useful skill that locks you in place in a game where even grandma has multiple punishing AoE’s. In the end they’d just be polishing a kitten .

There are a LOT more problems with the engineer that have been fixed. That giant update really helped engis and took a ton of work on their part. I mean, they made gadgets useful! They can’t focus on small things that aren’t affecting the game right now. Yeah, it’d be great if it was fixed, but there’s a lot of other things to focus on that are more pressing:

  • Defiant
  • Necromancers in PvP
  • Warriors in PvE
  • Warriors in PvP
  • Spirit Rangers in PvP

The list goes on and on. Until they do another mega patch, I don’t want them working on Mortar. The list of bugs and things to fix is too huge for them to spend time on it, especially since the only places it is good is limited anyways.

Watching the mortar users in the trial event just makes me wonder “why can they get mortars right when npcs use it but not for us?” >.<

Mortar as a lot of problems.

-Cannot crit. Just, flat out cannot crit. So all your Precision and Crit damage is useless. Any trait that triggers on Crits, is useless. Why is this still a thing?

-Damage is subpar. Even if it could crit the damage output would still be laughable. Not only is it hard to land a hit because of how rediculously slow the projectiles are. But the fire-rate is abysmal.

-Speaking of Slow projectiles. Anyone with a function A and D key can evade Mortar skills without dodging.
Couple it with a minimum range and trying to use this Elite will quickly be met with someone simply getting in your face.

-It is destroyed so easy! Not just because its an immobile object in the world, but because it has very little durability. Nice Elite, a few hits and its destroyed.

-All them bugs! Seriously, some are really bad. You want to fire Conc. Barrage? Nope it fires a regular shot, but loljoke you do get the cooldown on Conc. Barrage anyway! Happens on all the skills.
This gimps the already kittenty performance of this “elite” even further.

-Short range. Yes, for a bloody immobile Mortar Elite it has less range then a Ranger with Eagle Eye, or Engineer with Grenadier, or just any Warrior with a Rifle. Goodluck getting sniped and there is kitten-all you can do about it.

I mean seriously, most racial Elites kick the snot out of Mortar.

These fixes are definitely needed

I’ve found mortar to be situationally useful in WvW as crowd control, but the downsides are so awful and crippling. The range is also flacidly short. You can’t sit at a distance behind your zerg/wall and spam like a real mortar, you’re literally better off trying to snipe them with your rifle.

Engineer is the rarest profession in WvWvW and not part of the top elite guild melee train meta at all (while all other 7 professions have their use, albeit all medium armor professions are rare):

Change the mortar elite so that it is a weapon kit. You can move around it with it, but only the engineer using it can use it (just like other kits).

Imagine running around with the mortar kit (elite). Most of the mortar kit skills are weak e.g. healing from mortar #3 is a bad joke, but launch concussion barrage is powerful area push back.

Giving engineer a mobile siege weapon would suit the profession very well, especially for WvWvW.

I think it needs to much improvement to justify the development time. Even if it was just fixed to work as intended it’s a terrible Elite skill. Elites are intended to be game changers, momentum shifters, and overall flat out more powerful than every other skill. This easily destroyed mortar placement is none of the above.

Traited grenades have a greater combat effect than mortar for numerous reasons ranging from no loss of mobility, the use of utility and tool belt skills, no close range dead zone, and they cannot be destroyed AND they’re just a regular utility skill. Put frankly even if Mortar was a regular utility skill I wouldn’t use it, it’s trash that needs to be discarded and replaced.

They should do mortar like everything else in GW2 that doesn’t work and gets ignored by the player’s: remove it from the game. At least then I don’t have to look at it any more, and have a glimmer of hope that someday they’ll fill that elite slot with something that isn’t a hot seaming load of whale @#$%.

Mortar would be good if 1) there was no min range and 2) if you could move, if it were a weapon kit, it’d be kittening amazing, especially since it could work like it does now where there’s no CD on it

Honestly, I love the idea of mortars. But as stated, mortar elite does not work well.

1. Get rid of ground targeting so enemy’s can’t see incoming attacks. Maybe we would land a hit or 2.

2. Make it the long distance weapon that mortars are. Honestly, I don’t think it would be too much to give it a 3000 range. Remember when warrior kill shot was 5000? Mortars should easily be able to attack over walls. Honestly, they should do damage to gates too, but only like10% of what an actual siege weapon can do. You can’t make them required.

3. It should be made to be portable, maybe have charges for how many times you can move it.

4. I really like the change of pace it offers to let you get strategic and get stationary to rain down mortar shells on the enemy.

To be fair, I think after the recent changes I only have two problems with the Mortar:

  1. The delay. It’s horrible, and it breaks the fifth skill.
  2. The lack of crits.

The other stuff is all ok. I would increase range by ~150-200, but that’s details stuff.

The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.
