Fix Static Discharge
It’s a huge limitation on the potential variety of SD builds. Would be nice to get a fix. While they’re at it, they should fix the response time of the bolt itself. Some toolbelt skills that have a target fire it almost simultaneously, others have a long delay.

I like the delay.
It bates a double dodge out of most people, setting them up for a quick TK#5 / #3 Rifle #3 #4 / #5 chain, or the burst your current build supports outside of s/d.

Static discharge will MISS WHILE MOVING when activating the following toolbelt skills (will hit while standing COMPLETELY STILL and facing the enemy OR by aligning your monitor screen, your engineer character and the enemy character =s ):
healing mist , bandage self , toss elixir h , super speed , incendiary ammo , grenade barrage , regenerating mist , toss elixir c , toss elixir r , rocket , toss elixir b , toss elixir u , toss elixir s , toss elixir c , throw napalm
Static discharge will HIT WHILE MOVING when activating the following toolbelt skills:
throw wrench , rocket kick , personal battering ram , mine field , static shock , analyze ,big ol’ bomb , suprise shot , net attack ,rumble
why isn’t this fixed yet? I was really disappointed when I noticed that static discharge is completely useless with MOST toolbelt skills.
It is a real shame that it’s not been addressed yet. I play a SD engi with goggles, PBR and toolkit so it isn’t an issue but there could be so much more variety. Eg, acidic elixir SD build? Aoe boon strip, buff and discharge that has never been usable due to the traits behaviour…. It would be nice to see it standardised. I’d even be happy to even things out by accepting that dmg done by SD is directly proportional to skill cool down to prevent it getting abused by short cd abilities
While I don’t disagree with the OP, I almost want them to leave SD alone out of fear they’ll attach an ICD in order to “keep things balanced” and completely butcher nearly ever SD build in one fell swoop.
Either that or they’ll reduce the damage by 30% to compensate. And no, that joke is never going anywhere.

Basically this.
They have pretty much left static discharge alone since…forever. Part of me wishes for it to be fixed, the other part of me wants them to just continue leaving it alone.
Static Discharge, the trait itself, is honestly not that great. I just hit a light golem for 404, on a berserker amulet. Error 404, Damage not found.
If it got nerfed just so it can function with toolbelt abilities, it’d be another trashcan trait, compared to other options.

This, SD dosent hit hard at all, its the air/fire and Surprise shot that hits hard and SD dose help ensure that air and fire proc though.

The direct damage of all these passive procs aren’t that great. But It’s all about the crits that come from them and the fact that you can get a ton of SD procs in a short space of time.

How many utilities can you realistically run that will give you a Static Discharge proc? At some point, it’s like..
Running Utility Goggles will totally be worth it since I can get that extra little rip on my burst?
I think the OP is on to something and you should probably have 3 abilities that proc static discharge properly no matter what utilities you take. It shouldn’t have to be that the only way to get reliable procs is to run Rifle Turret, Utility Goggles, and Toolkit.

Static Discharge should work similarly to the Elementalist 15 point Air trait! Except instead of proc’ing on Air Attunement swap, it would proc on toolbelt activation!

I’d be happy with just it just going to your target, as opposed to trying to burrow to China.
Projectile hate should still work against it, just pls work. pls

I think this is a nice idea, although the current form of SD does allow for a form of AoE damage. So the potential damage of the ability would be less overall, though it would at least be useful with all utilities. I’m not sure this would really change many SD builds though because the utilities that are commonly chosen (i.e. utility goggles, rocket boots, rifle turret, tool kit) already work well with SD since they have fairly low cooldowns and fast cast times, unlike other tool belt skills.
On the other hand, the current form does afford the opponent the opportunity to see the SD blasts coming, so they have a window to react to them. If they turned it into the lightning strike that is used on something like the ele’s air attunement swap, it would be completely instantaneous. As such, it would make it even more valuable with utilities like utility goggles and rifle turret since you could basically get 3 instant lightning strikes that the opponent could not see coming or react to. This could mean they would want them to be weaker overall (i.e. less raw damage, no crit possibility, &c.).
However, the issue here isn’t that the SD doesn’t happen. It does, it just shoots itself at empty space instead of at the selected target. I don’t think it’s impossible for them to make it so that the SD bolts always launch at your target. The only reason they don’t work with things like mine field or toss elixir B is because those tool kit skills are not launched at the target directly. However, if you have a target selected, I don’t see why they can’t just program it so that the bolt will always shoot at them.
