I want to try an engineer in spvp (or any pvp for that matter), but the only kit i seem to like is the flamethrower. So a fairly simple question: is a flamethrower build even viable in pvp and if yes what would the best trait setup for it. ty

works great in wvw defending a gate (specially as glass cannon… 30/30/0/0/10 + zerker gear, on-crit passive traits when available).

too short of range for me in other cases, useless on a wall or for chasing in a field.

can also work as a bunker in spvp… something like 0/0/30/30/0 + 10 choice, taking juggernaut.

kits are our weapon swaps. theyre meant to fill a niche. dont just run around with 1 all the time.

this is a fun flamethrower build, i think.. You remove conditions, and have a ton of boons up consistently, and because of the grandmaster traits you can get up to roughly 15-20 stacks of might maintained easily, putting your damage way up… Feel free to cycle in whatever amulet you prefer…. i like condition damage myself, for personal reasons, which is why i have the Rabid amulet on… also with this amulet you only have 18k hp, but 1560 toughness, or 1760 when you have the flamethrower equiped…. So, if you time your dodges and blinds correctly, you can be VERY tanky with this build, while still pluming a good deal of damage.

if you like high damage crits, then cycle in a zerker amulet, and change all your armor runes to Divinity, for the added crit damage… with the sustained might stacks (roughly 15ish with this build consistently) your direct damage will be significantly higher, but youll be more Squishable.

honestly, you dont even have to go the alchemist tree at all, in traits, if its not your thing… but make sure to get the grandmaster flamethrower trait….. beyond that it really depends on how you like to play, what utility do you want to serve as.
