Deadly Mixture seems to be broken – shows less damage when traited.
I feel it seems okay, I wouldn’t say it rocks, but to be fair, the time to test it has been limited.
I got that problem with the trait as well, join me in sending in a bug report if you would.
Judging by the numbers, it seems to go down 15%

No kidding… Gah! I was literally counting the days till I could test it’s maximum DPS potential. So much for that.
Flame kit is awesome now, however the new napalm damage does not get boosted with deadly mixture whats up with that..?

I just tested it. The damage log makes it pretty clear that it IS gaining 15% damage. It simply shows it backwards in the tool tip.
That blast finisher on 6 sec cd is so nice

I am not saying FT is the best kit now but its good enough that I can take it with out feeling like its gimping my build. Its a totally viable option which is great.
Now if only we could have kit refinement back so that swapping to both the FT and EG cleansed a condition. MAN I MISS THAT.

its still lacking really , #2 is still iffy on actual success. also autoattack seems to miss in certain situations.
the damage is good now but still not a kit that you stay in for too long. you do your bursts then you use the FT auto when you are waiting for those burst skills to cd

biggest problem i see with this is it will be slow no haste of 25% movement speed not sure what i can do to fix this?

Aw man, I was excited to make a tanky frontline power build that spams flamethrower and spammable blast finisher comparable to guardian hammer… Still might try it but the retal looks like a killer and still not the best damage.
Speaking PvE.
The extremely low cooldown blast finisher meshes well with fire bomb, and the long fire field and blind is an added bonus. I think it’s still better to spam bombs/grenades for damage though.
I can see it being used alongside grenades and bombs in dungeons if elixir gun support isn’t required and you want to build might easily.
For PvP, I’m considering trying something like this:

works much better for me now. U can’t 111 just people with retalition but overall it’s not OP but it’s very viable now.
good mightstacking and nice burning uptime. I will change riffle to celestial though and sigil of force for doom i think but mostly i vote for sigil of cleansing that i really like for engi with 3 kits, what means -1 more condi every 9 seconds. With quit good health pool i can surivvie alot and blast finisher on skill 2 is ok.
[Tested in the mists] Juggernaut trait does not add 200Toughness :/

-retilation almost throws back as much dmg as you deal

Depends what game mode you are talking about but I am running some builds with FT atm that are working very well. Will uploads vids shortly.
The flamethrower still does significantly less direct damage than the bombkit over time.
However I suspect it may be more viable now in certain PVP or other builds which are built around a heavy investment in the alchemy traitline (at least once the bug with deadly mixture is fixed). I’m considering swapping bombs for flames on my exp turrets pve build, after some testing in orr.
It seems that the blast finisher on #2 is a bit unreliable though – still playing with it, might be a targeting thing due to how I use flamejet.

It rocks ur enemies socks. Isntant suicide to use flamer in WVW. thought ANET could figure this out and do somethin but NO. FT is compeletey useless now.
Anythin else happened in patch? We waited kinda long for changes…

Been toasting wvw zergs with this. Also, those guards also just melt, lol. I’d like to get celestial armor, but friggin time gates means the exotic is a no-no. Maybe in the future when I make ascended.
Defensive stats are a bit weak but that 200 toughness sure helps… (wait, it’s bugged?)
Also retal is fine (yea I found a stack of 30 people to fire it into) unless you decide to 11111 into them when they stack. Hitting people with aoe in those situations regardless of class is foolish. I lose a few thousand health, but that’s nothing really. Use the toolbelt skill and go flash some blunderbuss and go clear some condis on your allies with fumigate and use a flame blast instead of just mashing 1 because you’ll lose 2 seconds of dps. You can also lay down a firefield in the meantime and blast it (hopefully others will do it).

I think the real selling point for the new flamethrower is actually the very short cd blast finisher. We used to do that with throw mine to stack might on fire field, but now flamethrower can do it all with even shorter CD and more might. Engi can be comparable to ele’s might granting capability now with the new flamethrower, which is a very very nice addition, and also extremely useful in Dgn and WvW.

Sadly this is still gonna be the case. The kit is still stuck as more utility than damage. That’s a pretty hard choice to take without pigeon-holing yourself into a roll that is done way better by other classes.
Honestly I think the only way for them to actually make it a viable kit would be for them to add another condi to the 4 and make it so the 1 hits 3 times over its duration, burning for 1 sec each hit.
It’ll still be a pretty crappy kit, even with the buffs…
Unless they fix the 1 skill to actually hit then it would be viable, but lets face it, if you free look slightly away from your target your flamethrower starts missing and it’s a lot of damaged missed.
I have tested it out and liked it, but till they fixed the kit itself it’s not going to happen for PVP
i’ve been burning wvw gate rammers for fun now.. haha.. of course there’s retal damage, but you only have to back off once in a while…
anyone done a maximum damage test with ft auto yet, I’m sure with traits it’s going to be quite a big number
why everyone talking about skill 1? u really using it so often? It has low cd skill 2 that is very strong btw.
Kit is viable, but hard to play.

There’s 2 versions I’m favoring atm.
Version 1: All DPS with lowish sustain
Version 2: More sustain and condi mitigation

Basically the cone shaped attacks (FT 1, Blowtorch, Firegrab) all suffer from a similar problem with the z-axis bugging out as well as movement of your character causing the attacks to miss. You can time your movement and make blowtorch or firegrab hit more reliably, but they only have 1 attack to pull off while FT 1 has 10 making it pretty vulnerable to the aformentioned bugs.
I seriously hate having blowtorch miss already. Like hell I’m gonna depend on a flamethrower 1
This is why you have a main weapon…..it’s not difficult to KNOW when FT might miss….don’t use it then.
Actually, you can effectively monopolize on this “tracking bug” by essentially attacking in two completely different area’s.
You just need to select a target, and fire. Then while the Stream of flames is chasing after your target steer the center of the camera onto another target while holding down the mouse.
If done properly it is possible to strike your target with flames as well as striking whatever is in the center of your screen with an additional, invisible cone of flames.
This is particularly devastating when fighting Mesmers as well as thief’s. As you are effectively doubling your cleave.

What’s with the Retal complaints? Flamethrower is a near-constant cone of mid-range, quite decent damage. It’s super hard to evade because its attacks are constant, it applies condis, and it has CC. It needed a weakness, and Retaliation is a decent weakness at that. Solution: Stop spamming autoattack, and just swap to Rifle while the boon is up.
Run 2 6 0 6 0… With HGH and FT you can perma 25 stack so its kind of bloody hilarous to run also because of all those ridiculus buff and retaliation times.
What are we talking about here? PvE or PvP or WvW? I bet WvW it’s terrible, and PvP it doesn’t seems viable too. Other kits are just better.
And PvE … well … no. It’s viable, yet still won’t deal near as much dmg as the explosive engi. It’s great for soloing and exploring open world, but that’s it.
pvp not viable… says the bomb guys wich needs to chase people or get chased by them just to hurt something because of the fact bomb are not projectiles but traps. Grenade is awfull to aim with so if we gunna start about kit viability for combat we might as well say none is viable and the only decent build for engy that isnt a ranger easy breakable bunker actualy rely 100% of static discharge. FT has at least the point of dealing very good damage and prety much behing very hard to avoid.
Save for getting hit by retaliation running FT in pvp right now is prety much devastating ive killed player quite fast with it either because everyone runs like glass cannon or more because that things can pack up some serious multistriking chain damage.

The FT is a lot better in PvP, sure. I have to ask though, what kind of PvP are you playing, in which you have to chase anyone with bombs? You get on the point. The bombs practically cover the point, as do grenades. The enemy has to come to you or sacrifice time on the point.
Flame blast is solid for a low cool down blast finisher and quick damage. Air blast is a decent low cool down knock back. Flame jet though, is inferior.
