Forced into scrapper traitline
That is not what forced means. The Scrapper and the hammer are an optional combination, but come as a package. You either take them, or you don’t. Either way your not forced to do anything at all, you are simply given a chance.

I understand that they come in a package and i’m questioning the necessity of of that restriction.
It just looks like a lot of wasted build possibilities to me.
Its mostly annoying for engineers because we have no weapon swap. I guess its just going to take a bit of time to get used to the fact that your main weapon is melee and you can only range via kits.
On the other hand, more related to the topic, at least you know what trait-line you will obviously want to switch out for scrapper: Firearms.
Why Firearms?
I see quite a lot of synergy with Scrapper and Firearms. Maybe i’m crazy.

That’s how elite specialisations are being balanced. They are meant to be choices, if there were no trade-off then they would just be upgrades.
Why do I have to use the scrapper traitline if I want to use the hammer?
Its partially to encourage sales of the expac, and partially because the existing trait lines didn’t offer support for a hammer or gyros.
if I could use hammer with my current trait build that would be nice, now I have to ditch one of my lines to get the scrapper line into it wich is a bit sub optimal but still managable i think (dont have all the traits unlocked yet, its only theorycrafted now)
also, if I run with my hammer through pvp to get a free port to LA, and where I dont have the scrapper traitline equipped, it remoces the hammer from your weapon slot, meaning u have to reslot it after getting back to LA or before getting into a fight or ur screwed xd

Why do I have to use the scrapper traitline if I want to use the hammer? As someone who likes to theorycraft I hate being forced into traitlines and the elite specializations do just that. It limits the build possibilities by alot if you want to use a hammer or gyros. Is this restriction really necessary (for the engineer and/or other classes)? It’s also annoying when I quickly want to slot a scrapper skill but dont have the scrapper traitline activated.

It is funny, because it sums up pretty well this elite spec design: a hammer.
The traits line do not provide an interesting improvement (give power we already have, need a lot of daze ONLY provided by destruction of useless gyro, superspeed that does not stack) , or new mechanic, the core mechanic (function gyro) is more than laughable, and the gyros are mostly useless by the crazy cooldown on toolbet, their destruction not using traits of other lines. In this spec there is NO synergy, at best you can use a FT which will force you to use ONLY the FT.

scrapper traits & the function gyro rock. a very viable line for engineer imo.
try traiting stab for the gyro if you can’t feel the love. it’s clutch in pvp.

The Idea is that more elite specs with new weapons will be added over time. If they allowed you to mix and match the benefits of these specs too much there would be so many possible builds the game will be inpossible to balance.
The problem with “Over time” is that it probably mean next expansion… It can be a bit too long for my taste.
Especially since I think engineers got short end of the stick if you are PvE → not like you will have enough hero points to unlock second one in HoT, and I myself only unlock it for achievements.
I have a clear idea what would I want, but I also know that it would be disappointment for many other players.
I must play a different game i think the spec is great. I am not an overly positive person IRL and pretty cynical but i feel the trait line and the function gyro are all pretty great.
I don’t think much of the other gyros admitably but i like many of our other gadgets and kits so i don’t want to use them anyway.
Maybe i got lucky with a good spec early on. I did the same with P/P condi/HGH in the last balance patch. Lots of QQ going on around me and I’m running about thinking I am completely OP. :P
