Not much point playing condi engi in fractals anymore, is there?
Condi builds in general were already pretty niche in PvE but I think that effectively kills them.

Naw, Condi will be fine for Engi, Ranger, Necro and Warrior at least. They compare well to the power counterparts and with Engi and Ranger were being used before HoT’s changes.

Bear in mind that Condition builds remain almost equally strong as before this patch. (I tried)
What ANet did was upping the viability of all other builds outside of condi. So now the Necro is not the be-all end-all solution to fractals anymore.
I appreciate some nice “meta-neighbors”.

What?! Calm down, it doesn’t kill your condi build. It means you do more damage as some of your skills do direct damage as well.

As I see it, it makes power engi more effective than condi in fractals since you fight a lot of mobs that die before your condis ticks can stack. The advantage of toughness ignoring damage has been greatly reduced, only the drawbacks of playing condi remain.
And power engi is already the way to go for most of the end-game content.

lol yes it is

any time you have no necro in the party, picking engi (or anything but a druid/healbot ele) over necro will make you have a harder time. any time you have a necro, you might as well stack more for more epidemics.

engi is a good choice when you can guarantee you and your group won’t screw up, unfortunately. engis mastery over pug fractals has been over since hot launched.

Well… granted: Necro is still “easy mode”. But my guildies are actually thinking about a way to farm 90 over 40.
The removed scaling just makes it so that say an Ele doesn’t completely weigh down the entire group beyond Scale 70.

toughness scaling being removed DOES NOT mean condi engi is useless.

You are wearing vipers….that has both power and condi, if anything you will fit better, since some people would make exclusive 4 condi necros and 1 heal druid to cheese dailys.

Not that i ever cared to join those groups, i’d make my own instead, but now there will be less of those types and more variation of classes in lfg, since the intended change was to make berserkers and vipers geared on equal ground for high level fractals.

I have played Engi since day 1 of head start, and if anything i must say Vipers gear was meant for engineers from the start. I used to use rampagers at some point back then because i always hate how a bunch of my kits deal condi damage, and yet my berserker gear don’t do jacksht to maximize my damage. Same is true now, vipers is still way better feel and flexibility than berserkers, since engis dont have a reliable hard hitting power weapon, and lacks skills to maximize power dmg.

Condi engi hasn’t become weaker. Infact it has become stronger too since 20% of the damage is power, so it’s like a +6% damage boost. However all none condi professions gained a ~30% damage boost.

Engi is now viable in all it’s variations. Thinking about trash mobs and the ability to swap freely between kits to adapt to situations without suffering great dps losses, I’d rather start playing power Engi in fractals rather than condi again, just like the old days.

The problem with the whole armor thing is that ANet didn’t implement any really tough mobs in any fractals. I mean look at silver wastes for example. All power professions are fine but struggle with husks since they have 9000 armor. Fractals need some mobs in some areas that have high toughness, to make everything more interesting!

imo
