Function Gyro issues
I completely agree. For enemies it’s easy you’re most likely already targeted so pressing F when downed is easy. But for allies it should work with any ally under 900 range.
Also seeing it floating is great, but I would like an icon as well. It’s hard to tell in the heat of battle.
I agree with your two points. I would also like to add that when you’re near someone, if the function gyro is available it should be used instead of you stopping combat in order to res unless you action twice. At least that way in medium to large scale skirmishes, if someone downs near you can can just tap the F key while still fighting.
You can right click in action cam to target.
Right clicking in action camera still has the issue of prioritizing enemies over allies, so you just end up targeting the thing that was killing someone rather than being able to res them.
My biggest beef is that the function gyro still doesn’t have enough health. Give this little guy some sustain please.
My biggest beef is how difficult it is to target downed players in a zerg. It is almost always faster to run up to the downed player and hit ‘revive’ when you see the prompt. I let someone die once because i was too busy cycling through allies in the area to find him.
Maybe if we held down the ‘F’ skill and moved our cursor/reticle around it would snap to select downed players? Then we could press ‘F’ again to revive/stomp?
in wvw i cant target at all sometimes. And if i do i dont know it happens or i die trying to target or the player revives before i can target, also the gyro is like super squishy. Ive seen soemone kill the function gyro in the down state(few hits), I had to run up to them and finish them off myself after going through all the trouble to function them.
Same with reviving i try my best but action cam makes it hard to target.
Honestly wish the range was greater too so i am not risking too much spending the time to target.
My experience thus far is that it could cease to exists and I wouldn’t notice the difference. In PVE thus far I managed to use it twice… . Worst elite spec mechanic of all. So disappointing. Fallout 4 can’t come fast enough…
I can’t even get it to deploy in PvE, like, ever. I have since removed myself from the scrapper spec, it’s just no good IMO. Maybe down the line once I’ve put many more points into it.
My biggest issue with it in its current state is targeting. For being the scrappers “mechanic” I barely use it. Scrapper really needs attention.

Exactly ! I switched to action camera and am pretty happy with it, except when rezzing someone at the feet of an enemy with the gyro. To trigger the rez in this case we have to:
- toggle action cam off
- locate the pointer arrow
- select the downed player
- send the function gyro
- toggle action cam on
We engineers are no strangers to having to push a lot of buttons, but this completely breaks the flow. With action camera, pointing the crosshair at a downed ally should make the contextual function gyro action pop up.
How do I even use the little guy? Is it an additional button? Or am I right in saying it doesn’t work on npcs?

With the right gear and setup you can break enemy break bars on your own. Once you get used to the class it really opens up. I never got on with the original engie but now I can’t imagine playing any other class. But each to there own

The function gyro works on downed enemies or downed friendly players. Since NPCs don’t go into the downed state (they go directly to defeated), you can’t use this on them.
To use the Function gyro, you just target the ally or enemy in downed state and press F. You’ll see a ‘Press F’ thing on your screen, similar to if you were going to rally/stomp yourself if the function gyro is available. You can also tell if it’s available or on cd by the red gyro flying over your shoulder.

Thank you for explaining. I’ve gotten confused on what the differant “down states” were called. Great stuff
I agree with the targeting issues. It seems very unwieldly to tag allies for revival, especially in the heat of battle.
Even if that worked better, my impression of the Function Gyro mechanic overall is that while it may bear some usefulness to finish enemies in PvP, it has little if not no use in PvE.
Here’s hoping for some dev-love for the Function Gyro. <3
- The tiny mini gyro floating near my head isn’t a clear indicator of the gyro’s readiness state, I basically can’t see it at all during hectic action. The boon-area icon from the beta was much more clear.
I totally agree with this. In addition, I wish the tiny model would go away for aesthetic reasons. I’m super into the whole engineer concept, but I personally hate that the bright orange dot is constantly floating around my character’s head. It clashes with her design and just makes her look like a goofball. Please return it to the effect icon or make it optional somehow. May seem petty but I really care about how my character looks and this is practically a deal breaker for me. =\
The mini-gyro should be a bit bigger and float lower and not SO close to the character.
F-Gyro should at minimum work on defeated people and npcs. Rezzing defeated people on PvE is one of the few activities that is practically imposible to do while fighting, hence “truly unique” for the elite spec. Still incredibly meh, but much much better than now.

I agree it should have some indicator that it has already off cooldown, i think it wont be hard to add the indicator considering mesmer portal time indicator has been implemented after quite a LONG time
I have a simple question – All of you seem able to make use of the function gyro, but for some reason I can’t. I’m not using a hammer, because I like being at range so I’ve stuck with my rifle, but since Scrapper gave me some more benefits than my old third tree, I’ve kept it, hell, I use the medical gyro over the healing turret.
Do I have to be wielding a hammer to use the function gyro? If that’s the case, they REALLY need to update the tooltip to state that.
I don’t think you need to wield a Hammer to gain access to the Function Gyro – I play Berserker without Torch. It’s the first minor in the Scrapper tree, so if you’ve have Scrapper traitline slotted in and enough points in, you should have the Function Gyro.
I’ve got to say I use this little guy regulary in Maguuma, I’d say that even over 20 times each day. The only times I’ve had issues targetting it was in the middle of a pool of players (Verdant Brink’s Wyvern, for instance), though I do admit I’ve tried to deploy it many times while it was on cooldown. I like the detail of having it flying next to the Scrapper when it’s off cooldown, but perhaps adding a GUI element like it was in the Beta is in order – I don’t think it needs to be bigger.
A way to cycle through teammates could also prove useful, perhaps starting with downed ones? Could help the Druid target-heal allies, too.
DionZeromus: If you play really at range, that could be the problem you have to use the F-Gyro. AFAIK it has now a range of 700 only. Also you need to manually select the target you want to affect with the F-Gyro.
Ignis, I must say you should be the only one I have hear of that use the F-Gyro so often. Still, I think we can agree… 20 uses on a day is not precisely a “gamebreaking mechanic change”, or a “visually defining” quality of the elite spec.

I’m another that agrees that the functionality of the function gyro could improve. It’s almost impossible to use in large group pve or pvp.
I’ve maxed out scrapper, and see the gyro over my head, but I can’t rez allies from afar, nor finish enemies. It’s confusing the heck outta me.

Thinking about this, cast range should be 1200 instead of the current 700
Someone said in other thread stomping work from afar but rez is bugged. You have to walk to your downed ally, activate the gyro and go back to what you were doing.
