My friend is playing an engineer. I have a thief and a guardian, but was interested in being elementalist. Wondering which would be better teaming with an engineer

For me, it’s a lot of fun to hang around with my Theif buddy, on my Engineer I can cover up a lot of the weakness he have with his Burst D/D setup, and the P/D condtion seutp which he use in the movie! We are planing to test out a P/P Burst Theif setup where I will try work in a Rifle CC build in a near future, but so far I only have positive experience from this teamwork, and it’s a lot of fun!

Also. It’s fun that we both wear medium armor, so we can match each other in the look, and create stuff like a cowboy theeme!

I often run with a Guardian friend – I get the aggro, they beat it up while it’s not looking at them. Thieves are about the only class I’ve seen out-aggro me.

shud i be asura or human? i have an asura at lvl 28 but his story is somewhat boring and i dont like the look of the armors later on. but their combat effects are cool

Asura! all the way! They are simply amazing and a blast of fun to run around as!

Guardians are worth their weight in gold in this game. I don’t know why people say Warrior is the best class because a good Guardian can beat out any Warrior six ways to Sunday in PvE or PvP.

As far as a class that meshes well with Engineer, I’d have to go with Necromancer. They have a variety of conditions that Engineers can’t bring to the table and we have crowd control that they have a harder time with. We work well together with either using Pistols (for high bleeds) or Rifles (pure damage complimented by tons of condition damage).

Necro seems like a pain to learn. I’m playing it now. Seems like a supportive class.

There’s stuff on the necro that does more damage the more conditions an enemy has and stuff that spreads the conditions around onto other foes (Can you tell I’ve not got very far with my necro yet?). Couple this with engi pistols and it’s good to go.

I run with an elementalist as an engineer and it works well, just a tad squishy though, though a dagger/dagger ele is well supported by an engineer.

Engi and engi with two opposite builds work well. One in grenades and one in turrets for example.

I’ve run a thief with my engineer brother since beta, and if there is anything i enjoy as a thief it’s not the 15k insta-kill-backstabs. It’s actually to rescue friends and strangers from insta-kill backstabbers or hs-spammers, using allied stealth.
Another fun thing to do in WvW is for example to stealth the engineer with Shadow Refuge, let him drop a Big Ol’ Bomb in an enemy zerg, and stealth him with Blinding Powder on the way back.
If you plan to play sPvP I suppose you friend would bring most to the team by playing a bunker engie, and in maps where it’s not bugged/out of range it’s quite fun to have the thief to place a Shadow Trap on the bunkers control point and then pop in unannounced whenever an enemy triggers it.
To sum it up, thieves are great bodyguards and therefore very fun in duos.
