Grenade/Elixirs Engineer for PvE/WvWvW
Can someone please help me ? ;( I rly want to play an engineer ;(
First of all your link doesn’t work for me.
Individual grenade numbers won’t be large, but with the grenadier trait that 600 will actually be closer to 1800, and your barrage skill much more than that. Typically for grenadiers barrage is for a big burst of spike (though the spread dilutes at far range), and otherwise continuous lobbing gives high sustained DPS. Additionally with traits every grenade applies a stack of vulnerability debuff, so even at your DPS best you’re still bringing amazing party utility.
Runes depend on what you’re building for.
If you go grenades you want to use them as often as possible so most likely you’ll be using Rifle just for #2 and #4 and maybe #5; imo traits that improve other weapon sets damage are not worth it because you’ll be using the Grenade Kit for damage.
I think the Vulnerability on crit is weak. Lets assume you have a 50% crit chance. The Vulnerability only lasts for 3 seconds (+30% from Explosives), and you throw three grenades each seconds. So over ~4 seconds you throw 12 grenades, 6 of them crit, and 3 of those crits apply Vulnerability. With [Steel-Packed Powder], the 25 Explosives minor trait, you get easily to 15-21 stacks of Vulnerability.

You need to copy paste it, forum redirects into bad link
Okay thank you both first for the fast reply!
I atm built my build to achieve good dmg and at same not be a glass cannon, as I said, which sucks to be 1shotted by any dungeon mob and ye it just frightened me abit cuz i went with my ranger main to pvp and compared stats on heavy armor targets and saw no big difference
And what rly bugs me at grenade( which actually is rly cool variation to play XD) that i need to set the green circle always and that rly fast, my eyes are not the best ones , so I am not that fast at recasting in around 1s tempo without having a headache after 10 mins playing XD
Flamethrower got rly bumped to ground by many ppl and testin it at dummies rly made me feel pissed
I would thought of Divinity Runes but I often hear that they are way to overrated to be actually good ;x
When setting the green circle, especially on the move, note that over short distances if something is between you and your target the grenades will hit the closer object instead. Therefore it is usually not only better but often preferred to aim your circle a little beyond the target because it narrows the spread, especially if up close or circle strafing. Also don’t click your mouse to throw the grenades, but press the appropriate # key a second time (so press 1 to target and 1 again to throw). Your keyboard will hate you but it’s the only way to stay sane with the kit.
Okay so fast ground targeting is not so good? I was sceptic hearing from other people on guru that its kinda 50/50 chance to get used to it and both fast ground and normal throwing has its advantages and disadvantages
Also I thought now if maybe Runes of Scholar,Divinity or if they both aint good, the one of Eagle
My build itself is okay? I can remove the rifle traits in case , I just were thinking they would be best choice of there but since I throw elixirs I consider going 30 in alchemy for HGH, which will for leave me open with 10 points left in firearms , ofc if they are useful there then still
And is it okay to go with Knight Gear set and Zerker Jewelery later?
Sorry when I bombade you with questions
If you are going for a direct damage build with primarily Berserker armors then your build is fine. As was said earlier I would also probably dump the 50% chance of vulnerability on crit trait for something else because your grenades are already applying it in spades with steel-packed powder, but that’s up to you. Certainly there will be times when you will be switching to the rifle regardless, even if it’s just for a quick #3->4 followed by a net for good measure.
With a primarily direct damage build Runes of Scholar are largely one of your best options if not your actual best, especially if you’re aiming for glass cannon options. A set of 6 Superior Runes of Scholar should ideally give you the greatest direct damage benefit while over 90% life, while 5 Scholar and one Divinity would be best while under 90% life (I use the latter for DPS set).
Swapping some berserker gear out for knight pieces is fine if you want more surviveability, which is up for you to decide. If you want glass cannon go all berserker, or you can have exclusively knight jewelry, or maybe some knight gloves. You may also look at valkyrie gear (pow, vit, crit dmg) to mix in some vitality. This is largely up to you.
I’ve made multiple sets out of mishmashed dungeon/crafted gear which I mix-and-match due to the preference of the time, though admittedly it’s a terror on bag space. Still, sometimes even the dodgiest zerker can stand to wear some toughness gloves, or the most durable bunker some crit (though your build is obviously intended towards cannon), and this all boils down to how you want to play. You must find the balance needed for survival with experience.

You have the same basic concept as the build that I’ve been running for quite some time. Here is a link to mine: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcEQFAUlspSXHwSiF17IyoCdmoHPGlNZfewWPIEC;TkAA2CnoyxkjIHbOuck5MKA
For some reason, it comes up as a bad link. Just copy/past.
The elixers can be swapped out as needed, but take note of the trait changes. The Knight’s armor gives you a fair bit of toughness, but no vitality. This is fine, unless you run into condition damage. That’s where Cleaning Formula 409 comes in. Each elixer, plus their toolbelt skills, gives you a total of 6 condition removals. Each one of those also gives you might.
Using this setup, it’s fairly easy to keep at least 7 stacks of might up at all times. If you’re sprinting somewhere, just keep activating the Grenade kit every 5 seconds for swiftness.
The reason why I swapped Elixer R in is for its toolbelt skill. It gives an aoe revive and condition removal. If you’re about to die, throw it at your feet and you’ll pop back up right away. Same thing if a few allies go down in a pile. It has been a team-saver too many times to count.
Personally, I use fast ground targeting and have remapped the #1 skill to shift. It can be tricky to lead targets, but practice, practice, practice. For unmoving targets, target them and then put your cursor in the red ring at their feet.
If you’ve got any more questions, feel free to ask.
Edit: Linked to the correct build.

@Lego : ye the build seem glasscannon , thats why I wanna go for knights gear cuz we naturally got 18k hp and I dont feel the urge to press it much onwards when i compare to thief or ranger since there i run much shorter
I thought just scholar, divinity or even heard engineer would be the best choice right and I think I folow Esseos build most likely since it seems rly lucrative towards me ;3
@Esseos
Thank you for the build suggestion of you site ;3 I rly didnt thought ab that way ,of formula to remove condition -> a reason more for me to go toughness by knights gear since i got good condition reneweal,
Also I need to find a good button to set my #1 skill , since this makes not much trbl, cause my other chars use the auto attack for 1 usually
Also will try abit again the fast ground targeting option ( in worst case I still have my rifle XD) but yeah the point was rather that when its a cave where u barely can target someone, that it mostly would annoy me to target probally
I thank you both for now! ;3
I will see if any other questions pop up in my head during the day ^^
Have a nice sunday!
