Hello, Guild Wars 2 Engineer Community!
(This is going to be a long and detailed build)

My name is John Cogbeard and after the release of the specialization traits for the Engineer class I took some time and created a build based on how dungeons are done in the current meta! I will explain why I chose what I did for those wanting reason!

Explosions.

Glass Cannon: This Trait can be swapped for Grenadier! However, Velocity is only effective if ranging down a target and the ideal goal of this build is to use Grenades in order to stack as much Vulnerability and other conditions as possible meanwhile activating traits that involve targets to be nearby!.

Shaped Charge: I took this trait over the others because in any setting your target will most likely pertain to having at least a single stack of vuln ..thus meaning 5% dps gain!! I felt like the contender Aim-Assisted Rocket could not keep up with the dps gain!

Shrapnel: In this build being able to apply bleeds also compliments with traits in the Firearms tree and also adding a 2 second cripple keeps our closed ranged targets in check which is always good for close range builds! Also Thermobaric Detonation’s cool down seems to slow and Orbital Strike could contend to take this spot, however I felt as it fell short as it does not support Might or Stealth fields. (edit: unless the second orbital strike proc also triggers as a combo finisher..then this could take over Shrapnel).

Firearms.

Heavy Armor Exploit: The Reason I chose this over High Caliber because in the current meta before specializations, Steel-Packed Powder a minor trait in Explosives and Precise Sights an adept trait in Firearms provide vulnerability. With this idea in mind I chose this in order to keep up Vulnerability Stacks which in term benefits your entire party! With gear stat changes you will have a high amount of critical chance anyway!.

No Scope: This is the main reason to go in close, A trait that allows you to keep fury up 2/5th’s of the time is amazing! even better is additional applications from other players or abilities increase the duration!. Other traits I felt did not suit the build.

Modified Ammuntion: This build and traits alone you can apply Bleeding, Vulnerability, Poison, Chill, Cripple and Blind with simply attacking in Grenade Kit. With all these conditions in mind and a 2% damage increase per. You will increase your damage from a range of 2%-12% on average…even more when you are with other players! Simply a staple choice!

Tools (This Traitline can be swapped out in HoT if the Elite Specialization will benefit the build more)

Static Discharge: When in close quarters with enemies this trait is awesome is aiding in applying additional stacks of bleed and vulnerability with help from traits in Firearms. It is also a better choice then the others.

Takedown Round: This trait is awesome because it does not have a travel time and aids in taking down higher hp foes…in boss fights this is awesome!! (Edit: With changes to Streamlined Kits and having the ability to possess infinite speed again..we could see this take this spot if we find a way to make the refinement skills work with the meta)

Adrenal Implant: This trait is simply good because it basically apples a permanent secondary vigor-like effect to your character…which is great in increasing your chances of survival. This also helps us stay within range to receive the minor trait 10% damage gain which is awesome..(Edit: Kinetic Charge could take this spot if additional orbital strikes provide additional combo finishers and/or the damage with other abilities like Grenade Barrage or Big Ol Bomb is significant).

Gear (this is all speculation) : In the current meta Assassins is the main to-go-to due to the additional 5-7% critical chance in order to complement the condition chances on critical hits. However, with the stat upgrades to current gear we may see the 5-7% critical chance gap between Berserkers and Assassins close in a bit which allows us to specialize more into power rather then precision…which is good and meaning more dps! If you would like to stick with Assassins for that critical chance then replace everything worded Berserker with Assassins and everything worded power with precision

Armor-Berserkers stats w/6 set of Scholar Runes! and +5 power infusions.

Accessories- Berserker stats with +5 power infusions. (These stay Berserker Stats no matter what due to an unavailability of Assassin Stated Accessories)

Weapons-Rifle-Berserker stats (May swap to hammer in HoT if its better): Sigil of Force (always use), Sigil of Night (Night-time dungeons) or Sigil of Frailty (Day-time dungeons-also serves as complimentary party dps boost!) with +5 power infusions.

Healing-Med turret -With a reduced toolbelt cooldown, Med turret is awesome in providing combo finishers as well as blasting with its own water field in order to provide party healing. It is also awesome to utilize with the minor trait Steel-Packed Explosives as the detonation of this turret now pushes back targets…which is pretty cool!

Utilities
-Grenade Kit-Staple Choice as it provides a ton of dps as well as vulnerability stacking capabilities and allows the most possible strikes for on critical conditions to occur!

-Flamethrower-Awesome for providing a combo blast finisher as well as a flame field in order to provide the party with might stacking! the Burn tool belt skill is also awesome with working with the Modified Ammunition trait!

-The last one is a choice between Bomb Kit, Elixir gun and Throw Mine.
Bomb Kit if you want to stack stealth with smoke field. Throw Mine for additional heavy amounts of burst from the toolbelt skill and vulnerability applications as well as an ability that provides a combo blast finisher. Elixir Gun which is my personal favorite for if you need a well timed cooldown stun-breaker, an additional means of healing by using a light well, or placing a high damaging over time/combo finishing- toxic puddle underneath your target..

p.s. Net turret is also awesome with supply crate and rifle net skill in order to provide tons of immobility if needed

Elite Skill Speculation
Mortar Kit: The kit itself provides multiple fields which serve towards acting as a means of utility..the Toolbelt skill however is what makes the Kit worth it…In the current meta Supply crate is essentially the only means of a engineers decent elite skill. With Orbital strike coming into play, what would not be more satisfying then shooting down a laser from space in order to deal tons of damage and provide the party with a combo finisher!!

This is probably the most optimal dmg build, especially considering how close it is to what people run in dungeons now. However, it is kinda sad to see that the most effective traits are so boring >.<

There are so many new and interesting traits like Kinetic charge, Gadgeteer, Juggernaut and Bunker Down.
I just hope HoT brings more challange and interesting mechanics than the current dungeons, on the other hand, that would probably just end up like the newest TA path.

I was tinkering with that whole night and I will personaly go dungs with this one:

with med kit, bombs, nades, eg, mortar.
crit traits allow me to go full zerk instead assasin combo so better base dps than now.
Runes I will probably stay on Str imo longer stacked might is much moer then 3% dps more from scholars. Sigil Force and Night ofc.

Cant wait to deliver some 4x Orbital Democracy in row:-D

Cant say its final build there is stuff to test like if Takedown Round dont hit enough I will definetly go for Steamlined Kits because of Magnetic Bomb

Thank you jheryn, I am also thinking the same thing with Bomb Kit to an extent due to the changes to Streamlined Kits and allowing us to get infinite speed again! I was also looking at Rozbuska’s build and if you can actually manage to get x4 Orbital Strikes off at a good rate..id say that would be amazing!! and would most likely outpower Shrapnel and the 50% endurance gain! I could also see Rozbuska’s build being good with getting x2 Grenade Barrages or x2 Big ol Bombs off with the tool instant cooldown trait causing a ton of burst to occur! Awesome build!

There is lot of potential for double toolbelts. Double wall, double S for insta 10s stealth, in pvp double main heal from medkit or double moa:-P Medkit will also need some further testing if it will be better than turret in speed runs.
