Grenades only viable option in WvW/PvE?
Grenades do well in sPvP. Main reason most people avoid them is because every skill is a skill shot meaning you have to predict where your opponent is going to be OR be right next to them.
Only against dummies standing still, not paying attention… Its easy to avoid grenades in most situations.
Tankgeneer works phenomenally, either healing or power variation depending on what you need
use bomb kit and grenade kit.
if they get crippled rooted and they can’t dodge? they’re gonna be eating tons of damageTM.
Yeah they should bring our main weapons damage closer to nades and bombs. They do so much more damage.
What build are you guys using for grenades? I can’t seem to get them to work for me on land PvE.
I primarily use Grenades and Bombs in PVP. It can be surprisingly effective. This build seems to work for me (you will have to copy and paste because clicking just gives a “Bad Link” error message):
Basically it’s max Explosives (grenade ranges, +10% explosive damage, bigger radius), max Inventions (Bombs heal, +10% movement, added Toughness/Healing) and 10 into Tools for Speedy Kits (33% movement almost constantly by just swapping Bomb Kit and Grenade Kit).

The thing with grenades is the effective range is pretty much 400-500. Unless if your at a keep siege or someone is just staying still on an objective. Other wise when fighting moving players that know what they are doing, and you can be easily countered.
I really don’t believe that grenades are the most effective weapon in P.V.P./W.V.W.V.W. I use dual pistols with sigils set to 4-5% longer duration on effects depending on which map/ game mode I am playing in. Grenades are an awesome option;however, I find the usage of dual pistols to be way more effective, especially when it comes to spreading conditions.

I find it hard to PvP with grenades with just a basic mouse and keyboard… It’s great for PvE due to high damage, and WvWvW too if you’re defending (With the grenade trait you can throw them from atop your walls). I just find it difficult to run and throw grenades, on top of that, they’re moving targets and your grenades have some travel distance before hitting your target. Maybe if you have some buttons on your mouse it might be abit easier.

Grenadier is a feasible option in WvW but I do feel that it involves being able to place AoE’s properly to be effective. I personally would us it more with defensive than offensive operations.
As EoD- I do not feel the bomb kit is a feasible kit for WvW. By the time you rush into a group to drop bombs, you will be cc’ed, knocked down and dead before you do any effective damage. At most- you might get lucky to find yourself in the middle of 2 groups while they are still rendering and get some bombs off.

But in areas like keep sieges and defense they are pretty much the best option for condition and power spec’s because whether defending or attacking you either can’t get LoS or getting LoS is a death sentence. The gtaoe lets you arch over the edge or hit people on the walls you can’t reach with rifle / pistol.
Mortar is an option but it’s damage doesn’t scale, and for condition spec’s it only really has bleed for damage.

hmm… didn’t really consider those points, did they fix the arch issue? I believe it was two-three days ago If you were on top of a tall fort you couldn’t throw them far at all, straight down ya but not in distance if that made any sense. o.o

I think by arching he’s talking about keep assaults, not keep defenses. Assaulting a keep, you can GTAOE the edge and hit people all over the parapets. Nice damage too with a Power build.
Grenades work well for me in PVP. Most battles are standoffs or standoff/displace. When we have someone in full retreat, I switch to rifle. When we are withdrawing, I switch to bombs and leave a trail as I run.
As to mortar, I switched over the Charrzooka. The mortar was just an excuse for people to attack me. I love the Charzooka’s #5 in a siege. Still, I am considering just giving it all up for a Supply Drop.
