HP/Tough/Cond Power with EG build?

Hi everybody!
Tbh I haven’t really browsed the forums much yet so I hope I’m not repeating a previous post .

For a while I’ve been wanting to get apothecary gear (Heal P/Tough/Cond P) with the Elixir Gun. I’m gonna start testing it a tad in sPvP before I actually invest in another set, but I wanted to ask around first
Is it actually viable say for PvE OR WvW? Any tips on which traits or other utility skills to use?

I mostly do a Rifle / FlameT build but I wanted to mix it up and I like using the EG, just wanted to see how I could boost it Thanks ~

I was playing around with it too.

I favored it over all other stats. Sure, I wasn’t bursting anything down, but I was melting them, while I was perfectly ok to handle the incoming damage. The healing and toughness really allowed some wiggle room.

But with my Super Elixir removed from the game, I’m not sure if I want it. We still have Super Elixir as skill #5, but not from Kit Refinement. Why waste an armor set on increased healing, when we barely have healing?

Running over med kits and firing a super elixir is it. Since we were gutted (those of us who favored a support build), I see no reason to roll it anymore.

I’m playing my Guardian and Elementalist now. They just have too much more in the way of support, without losing as much when doing it.

Necromancer is my new favorite atm though. Because it heals and strips conditions off the entire group more than an Engineer, imo.

Playing Devil’s Advocate since 1990.

I would be very cautious about investing that much gold into gear with healing power for the engineer. We have elixir-infused bombs, the regen boon, and one skill on the elixir gun that benefits from it, aside from elixir H/heal turret/med kit.

I believe the scaling for SE is .4 for initial heal and .1 for each tick. In other words, 1000 HP would get you 400 more health from the initial drop and 100 more health per tick.

I’ve been toying around with support/healing builds on the engineer since I first started playing. My first set of exotics were clerics

When I first reached lvl 80 I experimented with builds that used grenades for vuln stacking, as well as elixir gun and healing bombs for party heals. Back then the engineer scaled very well with straight power+healing and those builds fairly well. This was during the lost shores month. Needless to say the engineer is another beast now that the SE bug was fixed, grenades were nerfed (buffed condi-nades), and KR SE removed.

I personally advise against going healing power on an engineer, at least not full healing power. Before this patch I ran with a mix of vit/tough, power/condi, and healing gear. Carrion gear for vit/power/condition damage and cleric trinkets for tough/power/healing. Since pistols and most kits scale off of both power and conditions my damage wasn’t half bad, and afforded some compassion for healing bombs (these scale off of all three).

If you’re wondering whether you’ll do well with full apothecary gear, then I’d wager you really won’t. The engineer scales best with a mix of stats, and not very well if you go very far on a specific one (least of all healing).

As above, I do not advocate the use of Apothecary gear. It’s a nice idea, looks good on paper, but in field use; it’s subpar. Firstly, it’s way too expensive, you’ll need at least 100g to afford an entire set. Secondly, condition damage and healing power both are sub par stats that require way too much investment to be viable.

In my opinion, if you want to go healing power, go with a Cleric’s set, you can convert both Toughness and HP into regular Power resulting in better direct damage; just make sure you bring a rifle. If it’s condition damage, you’re probably better off with a rabid/carrion set according to your preferences. Just as a personal note, condition damage is almost useless in PvE, condition duration on the other hand is quite useful for conditions such as: vulnerability, poison and weakness, as well as immobilizes.
