Having a hard time choosing another profession...
I’m sorry for you,but there is nothing as a engineer experience.
Really,i’m not joking.
I made a lvl 80 thief, then abbandouned it,cause was too easy too play( i was playing trap setup there, and tested many builds, all easy to play, easy win),and i was looking for more challange.
I made a warrior,low level,i abbandouned it.
I made an elementalist,well…..too much challange there ,not for me.
Then i levelled an 80 engineer….i will never leave this class, and i hope Anet will not make it OP(this class with a little change can become really OP)cause i will get bored if they fix this class making it more godmode(like thief, aca thief spam in game).
Try a mesmer…is OP yes,but is also fun i think..so many things you can do with mesmer.
I think also a ranger can be fun,so may weapons,and skills,traps,pets,etc.
BUT,nothing is balanced in all the things (alternative build, tools, challange vs enemy ,etc) as an engineer.
Think..i actually play (after tested elixirs) a full defencive build, with 2 turrets and supply elite.
I’m immortal…even glass cannon thief heartseeker spammers are not able to keep half of my hp.
No way, even if enginner is not complete in my eyes(turrets need some rework on cooldown and in the target mode + several trait fix),is the best class to play.
Sorry for my broken english,regards!
Engineer : Charliengine

Overall, the thief is the only other class that comes close for me. Elementalist is some wicked fun too (especially double-dagger) and guardian has its moments (although it gets old a little quicker).
I was really content with necromancers for some reason.
Could give them a whirl?
Mesmers are fun. Some neat mechanics and once you get used to illusions, they can be pretty powerful. Require minuscule amounts of micromanagement but not nearly as much as a ranger (which still isn’t much). They also have a large amount of utility skills making you useful in many situations.
Necromancers are fun as well. Lifesteal mechanics make combat very interesting, plus their death shroud is a very nifty utility useful for PvE and PvP. They have some great mechanics playing with conditions.
Guardians I thought were a little boring. They’rekittenuseful, but I didn’t think they were terribly exciting.
I’d say mesmers are the closest thing to an engi in terms of playstyle. Phantasms=mobile turrets, and lots of trickery utility spells for messing with your opponents. Can be OP in the right hands, but takes a bit more skill & planning to execute. Much more of a small skirmish PvP class (which is what I use mine for) and group PvE play, while my engi can do well in almost all areas of play and still be as complex or faceroll as I want it to be.
Played mesmer to 80 and then got really bored with it. It is too straightforward to play compared to engineer or elementalist for that matter. Loving engineer so much, different kits and skills that opens whole lot more options during combat. Haven’t played long with other two weapon classes, but for mesmer there is a lot of auto attack when you have depleted all skills from one weapon and wait chance to switch to another weapon. So if you like to keep your fingers at work all the time, then I guess elementalist would keep those fingers working almost as much as engineer does.
