heya folks! Ive just recently started playing my engie again and im working towards a Healing support build. Im running all pothecary weps and armor with settler trinkets.

my build is 0-10-20-20-10 and ive made a focus on water/light fields and blast finishers in order to support a skirmish group.

right now i have 21k hp, 1975toughness, 1400 condi damage and 1300 healing .

( ill post the actual build later)

So can any experienced engies fill me in on some pointers in regards to the Healing/support Engie?

Myself and the other fellow in the thread have very different builds. Mine focuses on actual damage, while bringing a water field with ample blast finishers to the table with Regen uptime. condition damage through burns/Poison uptime etc.

The question really comes down to how much do you want to focus on support vs. deal damage. John’s build in that thread is probably far better at solo engagements than mine, since mine comes with very little damage. Mine can survive 1v1’s indefinitely with the sheer amount of healing it has, but it is incapable of winning fights against any bunker build or stealth-based thief, since you won’t be able to outdamage their heal. His probably is far better at 1v1 fights, but likely wouldn’t fare as well as mine would in 2v1 or 2v2 fights.

If you plan on doing solo content, I’d advocate his. If doing duo stuff, they’re probably equal. Anything more and mine is likely to pull ahead, since your allies can deal the damage and you can focus on supporting them.

My only gripe with your build, is I feel the waterfield and regeneration from Healing turret is better than what the Healing kit provides. You could easily self blast that field 5 times within the 2 second duration.

At your amount of healing that’s roughly 13k healing to your allies, plus the initial healing turret deployment to yourself. On top of that, you’ve now applied around 15 seconds of regen to 4 other people immediately around you, and when chained with Healing mists from the Elixer gun, shoots you up to 39 seconds, which can be maintained indefinitely if you don’t want to save it for a stun break.

Just something to consider. I too was also running backpack regen, but since I focus on pistols I came to a conclusion the healing I benefited from the small amount of time I spent in kits wasn’t worth it.

I understand it’s primarily to combo with your runes, but they have a 10 second downtime, and healing turret only a 20 second cooldown. Preference I guess.

I’m really tempted to try out the water field comboing, I’m just concerned that my turret will be easily killed. Also, it doesn’t have as powerful of a single heal as the toolbelt skill of the medkit, largely because the turret’s heal is broken in two parts. The primary reason I’m not using it right now is actually reflex though, more than anything else :P I’m used to using f1 as my heal, and hitting my 6 to proc altruism runes and/or speedy kits. I think I may try it out tonight, I may end up changing my build if it works well.
However, I’ve also noticed that the healing turret will provide pretty much permanent regeneration, and with massive boon duration you’ll just stack it up for if you end up loosing the turret. That alone is also probably a huge boon.

I tried it, and I love it on fights where I have the space to put it out and leave it alive, but frequently fights will be in cramped enough quarters that that isn’t a possibility. When I can guarantee significant uptime, it’s far superior, but when I can’t I’d much rather have the medkit.

I’m actually curious about this too. I finally decided to jump into WvW for the first today as a Charr engineer with healing specs. I have to say I had a blast. Couldn’t kill worth a snot but I was able to function well as support. I took Injector gun, Healing turret and Supply Crate but was torn between taking Battle Roar + Elixir B for buffs or Net + Thumper turrets for some measure of Crowd control. What would you guys recommend?

Spam Heal button twice then Detonate the turret or just press interact to stow turret, which reduces CD to 15 seconds. The turret shouldn’t be cleaved down in such a short amount of time if you don’t try to leave it in the open. As John Widdin has said, Heal turret is all about the water field combos. When you spam Heal and get the water field, it’s a 2 second field regardless of whether the turret is alive or not during its existence.
Engineers have a vast array of blast finishers which allows you to spike heal your team for ~3 to 5k at least. Water + Blast = Area Healing (affected by healing power)
Elixir Gun 4
Big Ol’ Bomb
Shield 4
Rocket Boots
Thumper Turret Toolbelt
Detonate (Any) Turret (so with default key binds, 6 + 6 + F1 for Heal Turret self-combo)
And any that I had missed.

What you do with your turret, is drop it, instantly overcharge, then detonate it. None of this will interrupt your other skills, and the water field will linger after the death of the turret. This heal will already exceed the heal from the gadget.

In the end, they’ll heal you for the same with the Medkits or the regen, but blasting the waterfield will push the healing turret ahead, and it effects your allies as well.
