I had a lot of fun playing scrapper during this beta, even with the bugs and wonky skills (looking at you, Rocket Charge). I also heard that it might become a viable bunker (or at least a bruiser) for PvP. Did anyone come up with a good build? I tried a few and found them moderately effective, but I figure that some of you folks found some much better ones. Here is what I mostly played with:

I like the second one. Still not sold on FT personally. I’m wary of the low health pool, but it seems like there might be enough removal for the average build. Condi bombers might kill you fast?

Here was mine. I wouldn’t call it a bunker, but it sure annoyed the hell out of people. I would regularly jump onto a point with 2 enemies and end up taking it. It’s also great for 1v1s when other enemies jump in to try and outnumber you, I ended up killing both more often than not. It took 3 to reliably take me down.

I have on illusions that this is anything but lack of familiarity with the build and its weaknesses but it was pretty great.

As far as the HP concerns go: you can probably switch from Knight’s to Solider’s for a lot of those builds simply because so many traits in the Firearms line will boost your crit rate anyway, and Adaptive Armor will help boost your armor rating. Of course, I do not have Firearms on the second build (although you could do a variant there, too).

That being said, I actually found both builds to have an ample amount of HP and condition removal via Healing Turret and the elixirs. Elixir C in particular can remove three conditions every 20 seconds and can convert all conditions every 32 seconds. Another nice thing about C is that, if you have Chill on you, that can be converted to Resistance, which is a nice little perk. Of course, a properly spec’d condition build will give you problems, but the higher HP pool will also only help you out so much.

I think you are right, though, not to be sold on FT. Juggernaut+Mass Momentum builds are not horrible by any means, but it does restrict what you can do with your other utilities and the rest of your play-style. As a bunker it can be adequate for fighting on point, despite the atrocious tracking on FT’s auto-attack (I hope a dev sees this note), because of skills like Napalm, Air Blast, and Smoke Vent that help control the space. The problem is fighting foes who attack from a range: you either play defensively and stay on point (which almost never works in this game), or you have to go off point to engage them. Swapping from hammer to rifle or swapping Supply Crate for Mortar Kit can help with this a bit, but then you lose the utility of what you traded. So, yes, it is still good to be wary of FT builds, although Scrapper does offer some buffs to that style.

Interestingly, I was not sold on gyros, which your build employs. I do see the idea behind it, though, and I can see how that could be viable as a nice bruiser build. If gyros do get a sufficient rework, then I might give something like that a shot. Actually, I should ask you: did you find your condition removal sufficient relying on Elixir Gun? If so, then I might swap Elixir C for it on that first build in a few weeks :-)

I tried Scrapper as:
-Tanky with Flamethrower might stacking
-Power build w/ explosives
-Power build w/ elixirs
-Tanky build w/ elixirs
-Power build w/ static discharge

I didn’t find the tanky builds to be effective as bunkers. They’re bruisers for sure, but they lacked damage and got kited. The power builds with explosives/elixirs felt like downgrades to the standard Rifle builds. The static discharge build was INSANE though.

At the beginning i tried to mix some of the new abilities with some old trusted certainties…but if i can be honest it seemed to playing the same engi with some minor differences.

I went for

  • Soldier Armor to maximize Mass Momentum effects
  • Runes of Strength for might stacking with hammer autos + Perfectly weighted
  • Weapon and Accessories zerker

Utility slot Skill i used:

  • Medic Gyro
  • Shredder Gyro
  • Bulwark Gyro
  • Sneak Gyro
  • Slick Shoes

Gyros tool belt were so much fun and help:

  • Reconstruction field & Defense field had a huge part in fights mitigating dmg
  • Huge Capacitor was a nice bonus to combo with Slick Shoes and
    Thunderclap plus it gives u a combo field :p
  • Detection pulse well can i say anything bad about it?!

Best combo was to Rocket Charge + Slick Shoes on a 2,3 enemies group.

Totally lacks of condi cleans…and infact condi do were a huge problem but who cares…engi always had poor condi cleans. Well Purge Gyro and Adaptive Armor are there for a reason if truly needed

I just hope they fix Gyro AI…most of the time i was pursuing those drones rather than dodge attacks but at the end it was amazing playing a totally different engi lol

I don’t really find condi cleanse issues a thing as long as I have alchemy and EG.
