Heavy Metal
I would also accept making the turrets look like the one behind the charr pictured here. Also that flamethrower shown would looks better than the curent one we have.

Why you no give us better aesthetics devs? >:(
Edit: also looked at the rifle turret video and LOL Engie kills an enemy with one rifle shot then proceeds to put down a rifle turret that helps her wipe an entire enemy mob! If only that were true.

That charr is wearing the karma temple armor, which IS available, also, rather than having more sets I’d like to have commando AND stalwart sets available for pve, AND an explanation as to why LIGHT class humans got access to engineer character creation goggles (yep that’s right, I also freaked out at the moment I realized that), being quite the reason I say allowing armor-crossing would be fine.
Besides that, you can achieve quite the number of “heavy-armorish” looking armors if you mix-matched a bit, thought it’s true that VERY few actually match the engineer theme (the alchemist theme got quite ignored too actually…), especially ‘coz we can only get 3 goggles, 2 of’em look almost the same (leather and noble’s skins) while the remaining is the character creation one, that is unless you are an asura (I am asura, in fact I am ’coz of cool goggles) which got 2 extra ones, much better looking than the others.
Also consider the game hasn’t been out for so long, perhaps they are going to add the armors anyway in the future?
It’d be pretty cool if we actually had an “utility goggles” armor version, just like the fiery greatsword elementalists have (thought they can’t equip it… what a shame..).
Honestly very little of the engineer matches the engineering theme at all. Explosives are not necessarily an engineer..its a demolitionist. Alchemy is not an engineer its a chemist. Flamethrowing is just that…its a flamethrower that has probably been used by soldiers more than anything. The tool kit matches the theme well. Turrets are the true skill of a ‘core’ engineer and they are bogus. Remember turrets from TF2? They would ruin your day if you didn’t know better.
During pre-release artwork I was under the impression we were going to be a heavily armored soldier/engineer and was loving it. The steam punk stuff goes well I guess…I am just not really that into it.
Anyways, I want heavy armor as much if not more for the stats than the style. I feel Anet could make a really unique class out of this but right now there is just too much going on.
I’m pretty sure much of the Engineer was done at the last minute – particularly things like the Toolbelt, not Kits, being the Unique Mechanic and Engineer being a Medium armor class.
For the Toolbelt: Runes of the Engineer boost Bundles, several traits improve Kits, the Class Balance Philosophy basically cites Kits (and the ephemeral ‘versatility’ they supposedly offer) as the reason the Engineer’s damage is lower than it should be, and there’s probably more that I haven’t seen.
Armor: Engineer’s known to have almost been a Heavy class, but they decided to make it Medium. However, there’s a particular set of armor, in the second tab of the Honor of the Waves vendor in Fort Marriner, which lists “Required Profession: Warrior, Guardian,” in addition to all the usual things. No other armor I’ve come across in my time playing has been tagged with this. There’s only two Heavy classes, too – am I just grasping at straws when I say it seems like the Engineer got closer to being Heavy than might be suspected?
Also: Yeah, heavy armor would be tops. We can’t deal a ton of damage, and that’s fine – but the defense would be awesome.

I was talking about the the turrets behind the charr, not the charr himself. If we had bad kitten turrets like those it would help in establishing an engineers identity better imo. As for the character creation goggles you can easily transmute them to another class of same armor. You probably saw a human ranger with them transmuted, like the one I have
@Penguin.5197
That method no longer works in fact it’s been fixed for months now as it was considered unintended.
There is NO way you can get character-creation items now besides creating a new character and no matter what you do the item is soulbound, just as any transmuted item.
I’d even just love something based on conepts like these:

Darker and more dieselpunk-like.
I DO WANT to look like a soldier!XD
Some kinde of experimental, heavy armored, unstoppable elite force, expecially when I’m playing a bunker.
because he doesn’t know it himself
Am I the only one or did you think that the saving graces for the engineer armor where going to be both the charr and asura? The asura have some pretty neat stuff but you have to be asura to get it and they aren’t my style. Charr are awesome but their t3 racial medium armor looks like something from the flintstones….seriously. I like the diesel punk look too. Reminds me of fallout. I would like a set of power armor for my charr…..tesla power armor to be exact…with a tesla kit. One can always dream
