Help need improvement on Flamethrower Build
Never see elixer U played in pvp, nor AED (forget about using gadgets). If all you are looking for is a good engineer build, check metabattle.com. Of you specifically want a build around flamethrower, ill have to look into it a bit more. Do you own HoT? (scrapper has a nice interaction with flamethrower)
Before HoT I sometimes used to run a similar build.
I’d get rid of AED and switch it with elixir H. you’re running elixirs so you’re getting more benefits from it.
I’d also change around what you equip. I usually run marauder with rune of strength/hoelbrak (extra might duration is always fun), with sigil of air (mandatory), and sigil of fire/strength.
if you do run sigil of strength you will find yourself capping on might very quickly, so you should switch elixir B (yes, B, not U, you use U for extra burst but it also gives might) for slick shoes/TK – it should help with keeping people near you.
BUT, that build was quite lackluster. fun to play, but you’d get better performance out of nades.
enter HoT.

I run this. while it might be non-optimal, it’s very very fun to play and very effective. you run around in FT. see someone you want to wreck? pop your gyros (bulwark, purge, sneak), switch to hammer, hammer 5->3->4->2->FT2->spam 1 until something comes off CD. not many people can survive this. it’s a lot easier to close gaps with hammer 3. you could swap out bulwark for something else with more utility because it’s also bugged right now.
Unfortunately I don’t have HoT. I do plan on getting it with Black Friday/ Cyber Monday coming around the corner, though.
I specifically want to play a flamethrower build. Why? Because I just want to. I’m going to throw out my AED and Elixer B. And I’m going to swap out my sigils. Thanks for the tips, I’ll let you guys know how it turned out.

Ok, so made some changes to your build that may help.
First of all, your trait set up was perfect, not much more you could improve there.
Crit chance, you were going way overboard with that one. With my suggested changes, you’re still going to be running around with 94% crit chance due to traits in the Firearms line.
Heal, use either Turret or Elixir. Gadget plain out sucks, Gyro is close contender but still outclassed by healing turret. With Inventions trait line, Healing Turret will cleanse 3 conditions every time, and has great raw healing.
Utilities, Elixir Gun, as always, goes perfect with Flamethrower. It’s going to provide you with a little team support, a stun breaker, and a high damage skill with Acid Bomb. Also to remember, Elixir Gun weapon set contains 3 Elixir skills, all working with the traits in Alchemy now. As for Elixir B, you can replace it if you want, but it is going to help you with that Fury uptime and give you bursts of Stability when you need it, which can help you get around those moments when you lack stability because you swapped out of Flamethrower.
As for the Elite, Elixir X is the funnest choice. Tornadoe is a big damage drop, but is great for CC’ing players off point in a team fight, while zerker is awesome. Mortar is another good choice through providing another Elixir, decent toolbelt damage, and some useful fields for fighting on point.
Alright so here’s what I ended up doing, for those of you still curious.

I switched out my plan to kill as fast as possible to becoming a tank. And I changed the pistols to rifle so if I’m in 1vs1 I can stall a bit and wait for health elixer to come back if I’m in a tight situation. Of course it allows me to catch up with opponents if they decide to run from me. I liked the boots because they just allow me to have a higher chance of escaping. And in some situations I can act almost as a decoy during a pvp match. The reason why I didn’t use what you guys were recommending was one, because I just can’t use the elixer gun. (I dunno why I just suck at it.) And second I don’t have HoT. I didn’t like the turret heal. Because you have to throw it out on the spot and I guess elixers work better for me due to what I’ve invested my skill points in.
Thanks for all the recommendations.

i know you’ve settled on a build now, but as another option here is a build i used to run (pre-scrapper)
using tools vs inventiosns, has better survivability vs cc’s with utility goggles proc’ing when you get blinded, and swift kits for speed boost (perma swift) if you are planning to rush to mid or far,
elixer s for escape plus the toolbelt invis is very useful in (organised) team fights for pushing far or ressing (especially when combined with Elixer R toolbelt)
sigil of doom for adding an extra condi (poison) as they may then cleanse the poison instead of the burning due to the way condi cleanses work, plus if you’re protecting a point you will want to switch to rifle for the knockback/cc (4 and 2) to either knock them off the point so you can claim it or just to annoy the hell outa them (yay skyhammer)
as a bonus when running juggernaut if you switch to rifle and use skill 4 right away you will likely still have stab so wont get knocked back yourself
turret heal is my preference as it can be used as a blast finisher as well, but elixer H could work well with this as well
ultimately any builds viability depends on how you play/the role you fill in your team
