Help with a viable WvW Bomb build
Yo. I found that Healing Power has a really lackluster coefficient bonus for Elixir Infused Bombs. So I might recommend different armor. But I like your build. I think it’s interesting going Elixirs with the heal bombs.
I recently made a similar build, but it went for conditions and condition duration. Maybe you can find something in the thread that will give you an idea for your build. Good luck.

thank you for the input on the healing power
is there any armor that does toughness power and condition or even toughness vit and condition? (still new to the game like i said so im not to sure)
In my experiences Bombs are useless in WvW.
In a group fight; you are going to die extremely fast if you run into their group.
In a 1v1, no class goes into melee range except for thieves and guards. [Not sure why they are so chicken; we’re only engineers!]
My spec uses healing power/power/toughness but I dont use healing bombs in wvw because no one has a reason to melee an engi if they can damage you from range in turn increasing survivability.
In PvP bombs+elixir are pretty OP because you have to stand in the little circle.
WvW is all about movement and extreme burst DPS.

brinson you make a good point, im looking at my build now and thinking of changing out some skills and points, like dropping the bomb infused elixers and putting more points into alchemy and picking up the elixer gun and granades
Even for PvE, its a little hard to justify a ‘heal bomb’ build.
I’ve run Fractals using a heal-bomber setup, using the elixir gun’s ‘super elixir’ as a backup heal to increase the heals per second.
The result, it’s good and only good if your team fights in a static position. Think of it like giving your team 2 stacks of regen.
Having 2 extra stacks of regen is not going to personally save your bacon against DPSers, or classes that range-kite you, but it will allow your allies to bunker down a little harder and survive a melee onslaught for a few more critical seconds and even more so if you have shout builds buffing your defenses even further.
However since your team is in a static position they are going to be taking more damage per second then they might if they were kiting.
Heal-bombs work okay in PvE with shout builds in your party fighting from static positions, but they’re not going to be so great in situations where you need a lot of mobility (like WvW or arm seals part on the Colossus fractal)
Zero Angel called it exactly.
The only time heal bombing is successful is in PvP if you want to bunker a point.
I can steal points from guardians by knocking them back with shield and BoB and they have no possible way of killing me 1v1.
The greatest thing about bombs is that they really hurt and are impossible to avoid on all the smaller capture points. They either have to get off the point or eat the damage and die a slow 60 second death.

would there be any tanky granade builds out there for wvw?
Keep in mind that any build with bomb kit in WvW is going to be a more defensive build. I.E turtle’ing control points.
The main stumbling point you’ll run into is that when your chasing an enemy as you move the bombs spawn and explode behind you. You’ll never hit a target moving away from you with them.
They are not bad when kiting enemies but they are extremely limited when charging and pushing enemies.
Swiftness is mandatory, and even then it does not help much. Swiftness is easy to get and you’ll notice that mostly every one has it.
Runes of speed will help at lot with the extra 7% movement speed.
But to really make bomb kit work in my experiences you need to combine it with either P/P , rifle, or tool kit with power tools. You need something to cripple / chill so you can close the distance and prevent enemies from moving away before your bombs detonate.
It also helps to pair yourself up with a pulling guardian or mesmer.
In solo play net turret helps a great deal to lock players down.
I’m doing something that I think OP is looking for…
In short, my entire build is around the concept of not only charging into the middle of the bad men with the red names and dropping bombs all over the place for as long as possible, and not to just survive said bomb dropping madness, but to look incredibly cool doing it.
Here’s the basics:
10/0/20/20/20 – Forceful Explosions, Protective Shield, Energized Armor, Self-Regulating Defenses, Invigorating Speed, Kit Refinement, Speedy Kits.
Med Kit, Bomb Kit, Land Mines, Elixir S
Knight’s Armor with Adventurer runes (using a heal skill (which swapping to med kit counts as) gives you 50% of your endurance back every 10 sec).
Spam the crap out of both med kit and bomb kit. Swapping them back and forth gives you a bunch of stuff, namely runspeed and Vigor. Spam the crap out of dodge, because you can…each dodge drops a bomb and you can do this all day long because of Vigor and Adventurer’s runes. When your not spamming the crap out of med kit, bomb kit and evades, spam the crap out of all of your other bomb skills and your med kits mini-heal packages.
When health reaches 25% and auto elixir S kicks in, that’s your queue to gtfo. As soon as the auto exlixir kicks in, drop your other Elixir S, wait 4 secs (while you diddy-mao your way to the keep door) and hit your toolkit that goes with Elixir S for a little more diddy-mao action time. Don’t forget to keep spamming all that crap from above while you’re at it, because it’s a style thing. If you don’t litter the battleground behind you (and leave nasty little surprises for any of the enemy zerg who are trying to finish you) then you’re doing it wrong.
My typical anti-zerg fight is me jumping off the keep walls into the middle of the bad guys with the red names, spazzing out in the midst of them watching them run in all different directions, fly in all different directions (I love BoB) and generally go “wtf is this guy doing” right before a whole bunch of stuff explodes all around them, and then a trail of bombs leading away from the smokefilled battleground back towards my keep…me running up the stairs to do it again or right back out through the gate to give them an encore.
I rarely die, but when I do it is with a blaze of glory (and copious giggles).
thanks thuull, this seems to be what im looking for and i will be trying it out tonight
Oh…. that might be what I’m looking for, Thuull. I’ve been playing a Mesmer for a while now as a roamer and only occasional zerger and was looking for something new to do the same with. This might very well work and I already have a 41 Engineer.
Be hard to drop the Flamethrower/Rifle combo though. Man I love the control from that combo. Anyways….
There are a bunch of little tweaks you can do with it as well…I think I’ve been through maybe 15 “builds” around the same concept over the past week. More damage/less survivability, more survivability for maximum kittenol value, etc.
It’s very fun to play.
I’m imagining someone fielding an entire 5 man squad of people using Thuull’s bomber build or variants for WvW and on paper it sounds hilarious.
