Hidden pistol, why do so few use it?
Its a racial. Albeit one of the stronger racials, not everyone can take it because theyre not a charr, and its automatically weaker just cus its a racial
Haha yeah its a charr racial skill not engineers. Its pretty decent when engineers use it since it gets that toolbelt skill and the backwards evade shot is always a finisher.
because asuras don’t have it and asura is the master race.
How can the master race not have such a great skill? Ohhh right … they suck at engineering :P
btt: Yea it’s a good skill (even with the buggy visual appearance of the toolbelt skin, the pistols point to the sky -.-’’), however other engineer skills are often just better.
It is just a single target skill that gets outdamaged by 2 bombs / grenades. The active evade is ok tough, however I wouldn’t sacrifice a slot for an additional evade, especially not as an engineer who’s got tons of cc on other skills. You can just take the elixier gun instead, it has a heal+stunbreaker on toolbelt and combofinisher+heal+escape+dmg+condicleanse+swiftnessaoedmg on 2-5.
Just sayin :P

Oh, i never guessed it was a racial. What i thought was that it was nice to hae that damage and jump without having to swap kits.
Btw that shooting skyward bug is only when you don’t have an enemy targeted i believe.
Since it is a racial, does that mean its not available in pvp just like the Charrzooka?
yes

That is such a bummer. Well, then i’ll just BK or Eg for that then
because the skill sucks, a half sec cast time before you evade? no thanks. evade should be instant
I’m simply explaining why I’m right.
Because vigor is already so easy to get for our class, and because it takes up an extremely valuable slot where you could be putting another kit in, and because the toolbelt skill is generally underwhelming.
My dream for the engineer was always to go p/p direct damage, like the thief’s set, so I did try to make a build around the toolbelt skill, but the recharge is too long to justify such low damage. It’s barely higher dps than autoattacks from the rifle in the same timeframe.
Hidden pistols suffers from a little bit of hundred blades syndrome.
It pumps out large numbers, and people assume it’s fantastic, but they don’t take into account the cast time. It costs nearly 2 seconds to cast. In that time, I could have delivered a flame jet combo for nearly twice the damage in a fraction of the time, or a prybar for about the same damage with 5x confusion near instantly, for example. It’s essentially a poison dart volley, without the poison.
The evade on hidden pistol can be nice, but I find myself using it a whole lot less than I would with other professions, due to our vigor, blocks and overall great heal skills.
That being said, I am very fond of the skill still, and I love the gunslinger look for my engineer. I do sometimes take it in the open world, just because!
For the toast!

Thanks Coenraad… rub it in.

Is it still not affected by skills that affect pistols from the engineer trait tree or did they fix that finally?

You are welcome. Did you also know that the Charrzooka uses Azuras as ammunition?
Thanks for the replies guys. Nice to see that many opinions. Atm i am still using it though, just becourse i think it is a fun skill.
Edit:
The evade from what i see is instant btw, but the time from evading to landing is half a sec.
And it does a fair deal more damage then rifle #1 in the same time frame (atleast on my setup)

I use it from time to time because it looks do kitten cool despite the pistols pointing to the skies but yeah. While you’re shooting you’re open to any attack.
God I wish there was a way to switch races. Human racials suuuuuuck so bad, I really regret choosing human. Asuras at least get Pain Inverter and Technobabble.
