Don’t worry, they will come back as shop-skins I suppose.
Having the EG backpack together with scientific weapons and scientific outfit would definitively look awesome.^^

Finally engis can choose their backpack skins freely, and for those who really miss it, a-net would be missing a profit-chance if they don’t put them into the store, even if it’s just for nostalgia reasons.
I personally will enjoy my spinal blades backpack together with Predator for a while now^^

I dont get why they didnt just add a toggle for Backslots to be overwriten by Bundles.

Want to always see your normal backslot? Toggle it so that bundles don’t overwrite your equiped backslot.

That’d be easy from a technical point, but come with one nasty implication:
Engis suddenly can customize their skill-animations.
You seriously don’t want this precedent in a game where the sole endgame goal is to acquire new shinnies. I can already imagine the kitten-storm on the mesmer-forum^^

Anyways, I’m happy with how the change turned out for now, and hope that they will also allow us to display legendary auras while wielding kits in the future, but for now we got rid of a hell of bulky crap and over-sized, screen-blocking turds for female characters.
