How about Flame Blast being Ground-target?
Here is what I think they should do to Flamethrower
Make its #1 either farther range or do much more damage. I shouldn’t reach the same amount of a rifle shot at the end, if I’m standing there channeling it on a enemy and manage to hit him, it should do more than the auto attack of a rifle.
The napalm bomb should be activated and be pushback.
The air blast should be a channeled thing that when activated creates a wall on where you selected it that reflects projectiles till the channeling is over.
Rest of the skills are fine.
Flame blast’s problem is that It can’t be ‘BLAST’ if you missed shot.
If you missed, your fire just fall to ground and doesn’t burst.
Its really annoying as flame jet’s unreliable accuracy.
Every engineer want its BLAST damage not its MISSILE damge.
Even FT has big aoe damage potential,
FT can’t do big damage UNLESS foes just STAND LIKE A TOYSo i suggest my idea. Make Flame Blast be Ground-target skill like grenade.
It will improve skill shot’s stability and can make FT powerful.
No they can easily code it to explode on impact of the target which would open up a whole new world of possibilities. It could still fly thru targets until it reaches the main target then explode so it’s usefullness could still be whole and felt by the enemy.
Explode on impact and increase the range to at least 900.
That way it is usefull in short range AND long range.
Most important part: explode on impact.
Any other solution feels like needlessly complicating things.
Flame Blast would be better in any form that’s not its currently form. XD
The phasing through mobs thing is so stupidly counter-intuitive.

The only thing about flame blast that needs to be fixed is the bug that causes it to miss. Back during the betas, flame blast did not have the problem, and was my very favorite engineer skill. It’s usage is similar to the elementalist’s burning speed, where you use a knockback such as air blast or overcharged shot, which puts them at a distance where the flame ball will hit them twice, dealing a good burst of damage. I designed whole builds around it, ant it is great as is. They just need to fix the bug that causes it to fail 50% of the time. Making it ground targeted would be horrible, it would become another grenade skill except worse and shorter range.
Flame blast is supposed to be somewhat difficult to use, but is
rewarding when used correctly. I believe that is intentional.

Given that we have a bunch of other skills that can be manually detonated, maybe they can do that with flame blast too. Then you can choose whether to let it shoot through people to guys behind or just blow it up quickly.
But that shooting into the ground thing is pretty kitten annoying.
You’re typically supposed to use flame blast right after air blast in order to get the ‘sweet spot’, which has synergy and seems fine to me. But I think it should have a higher damage for the setup required.
I also think it should inflict an AoE burn on a longer duration than the autoattack, or create some other condition when it hits.
If they fix the issues with this skill randomly missing and getting lost in the terrain, there would be nothing wrong with it. You have a knockback in the same kit as the ability, allowing you to maneuver into the proper range for the attack, and we also have knockbacks on both the shield and the rifle to assist us with maneuvering for this ability (and utility skillsif you want, but I usually use elixirs with the FT.)
I don’t mind that the explosion is at a set range. Coming from TERA, where heals and many magic attacks all have ground effects which are placed at a set distance from your character (usually 10m) I’m used to this kind of aiming. The problem with the ability is that it misses even after you properly set yourself up to maximize it’s effectiveness.
