How are engineers?
Good.
According to the Profession Balance forums, they’re OP. (lol)
I’d say they’re good. Not the best, but not the worst either. (That’s just my own opinion though.)
Pritty good in the pve, in fractals 50, my nades are hitting for 1k each with 12 stacks of might with food and such
Playable, hardest to master imo, yet very rewarding. They are allrounders and can do almost everything for a dungeon, mainly the most important things. They only lack of stability that’s all. Their dps it top tier.

Fun to play if you like to mash a lot of buttons almost all the time and are willing to learn what exactly your skills and traits do.
In other words, high APM and memorizing a lot of stuff.
With right gear you can retrait/select utilities for almost any situation in the game. You won’t be the best, but the class is quite versatile.
Without proper remapping of controls can easily give you carpal tunnel syndrome.
With proper remapping will give it to you later.
Terribad if you just want to lazily faceroll everything with a little effort (inb4 random complaints about the turret build which is never is seen in high ranked pvp for some completely mysterious reason that probably has totally nothing to do with opponents willing to learn how to play).
Have a similar to ranger’s one stigma and were mostly unwelcome in dungeons by pugs (and I’d say often still are) cause ppl thought that engies were useless in pve.
Though it looks like now a lot of ppl start to think that engie is OP since the last Feature Pack, pfft.
Which is hilarious cause both cases ain’t true, lol (I imagine the disappointment of all those who started to level the class recently thinking they’re gonna be OP, and soooo don’t feel for them when they realize that ain’t gonna happen).
Hello frands! Vee Wee here, #1 Engi NA and world first rank 80!
It depends on what game mode you play! If you want to play PvE, Engineers are great! If you want to play WvW, Engineers are great! If you want to PvP, Engineers are great!
Hope that helped! Wahoo! Bye frands!

Depends on players skill.
Engineer:
Can do dmg like a warrior, buff might like a mage, support party like a guard (exept stability) and can stealth as long as a thief.
BUT
the most players are not skilled and sometimes not even gifted with a brain.
If you are a noob with a engineer you could kill your party,…
but if you are a noob with a warrior than you are just useless
I wish they would improve the weapons, I mean it would be nice to play without having to use kits, but the guns are just so weak, well I am talking in a PvP situation. Rifle can be ok, but still needs help, but the pistols are just terrible IMO.
Which brings me to my next question, rifle or pistol pistol?
Best class in the game. If you’re interested in organized group play WvW, please check out the 100+ reset/roaming videos I have on my channel:

For a single video, this one seems to be popular due to a 15 minute long out numbered garrison fight which starts about 4:30 in : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2bQ-Ifue2g
Also, pistol/shield for almost all builds.

rifle for parties where max might stacks are secured and no reflection and interrupts are required. just damage.
pistol + SHIELD for more support, reflection, stun, might and blind. sacrificing a bit self dps for party dps and protection.

why ? there are good pistol pistol build also ( HGH , 2 kits elixir S and others) . In my opinion it is a different way of playing but with a condi build in pvp Pistol pistol is viable and fun
I’m sorry I allways focus so kitten PvE xD Forgot about the PvP part

Let me correct you a little bit, if you noob on war you can still be a bit useful(good passive defense makes things easy). If you are noob on engi you are useless.

What others said, Engineer is a skill-based class, and it’s up there with Elementalist when it comes to unforgivingness. If you know what to do, you’re OP; If not, you’re a waste of party spot.
I’d say that engineers are probably one of the most versatile classes in the game, they can adapt to many situations with their large amount of skills available.
However they aren’t always easy to play and it’s easy to get lost in the kit’s available at first.
Still when played correctly they are amazing and have a fair matchup against any situation….granted that depends on the kits used and your current build(condition engineer doesn’t tend to match well vs an anti-conditon mesmer in PvP for instance….)
Does anyone have some up to date video of Engi being played right in pve or dungeons?
Edit: stupid spelling check

That’s a pretty good video imo. But it’s only for total organized speedruns, keep this in mind. Still hot <3

NEVER GO PISTOL OFFHAND
Alright, Engineer has very few skills that are totally useless and something that will quickly get on my nerves are the ones literally spitting on specs that aren’t their own.
When the engineer started being perceived as strong in PvP, the whole freaking community rolled cheap knockoffs of these Pistol/Shield builds, not bothering to look beyond the very build they’ve seen, for those who pretty much dropped every other class to fully embrace the Engineer’s greatness and absolutely all its features, it’s an insult.
Not everyone can be bothered to have a shield offhand shoved down their throat and may perhaps prefer to have an additional burn and immobilize on their kitten nal for an even bigger condition pressure on encounters.
Rifle is great, Pistol/Shield is great, and Pistol/Pistol is great. Zerker is great, Celestial is great, Rabid, Settler and Carrion sets are great too. It’s rare for a class to have that much diversity in most of games, it would be best to not be obsessed with only one direction for it.
NEVER GO PISTOL OFFHAND
long rage post
Dude – read the thread again ok? I said I didn’t mean pvp…

I don’t think a group really needs to be that organized for this build to be effective. Maybe change out runes and sigils for a unorganized group but the rest of it is still solid.
That’s what i meant. Zerk or kitten doesn’t really matter. I made some math and we are talking about a few % crit chance for a few % dmg. Still, I prefer Zerk – cuz I already have it ascended XD
What I meant was more the scholar runes. Strength is better everywhere but groups where you will not be the might stacker / you allways have your 25 stacks. I doubt that scholar will be worth it in normal parties. Especially as engineer, where you allways get the aggro

Another fairly decent option if a player can’t afford strength runes is the ranger runes and equipping a mini to get the bonus damage,
If you use Bomb Kit the Superior Rune of the Flame Legion is also an option. It’s dirt cheap and with Bomb Kit #2 you can keep foes burning most of the time, enjoying its +7% damage bonus almost all the time.

And I didn’t exactly mean PvP either. Don’t consider this rage but rather frustration. Potential is everywhere, it would be plain bad to restrict any way to play.
How are engineers? Well, I’m not experienced enough to come up with any correct answer, but if we look at the last tol I can make a guess that they are much more that just ‘good’ (2 engies in the NA winning team and 1 in EU winning team). Of course condi engi may not be good versus anti condi mesmer, but every class should at least 1 hard counter. It’s funny that mesmers were rarely seen and we can’t see guardian in the winning team. I like every class, except warrior and maybe guardian as it’s not that challenging to learn playing one, but engi seems unique. Engi is able to fulfill different roles, but it doesn’t have to meen he can’t be good at fulfilling a specific one.
