How do most of you operate the Grenadier Kit?
I find a comfortable distance between my Engineer and where I want to throw them and then lock that in place by holding the right mouse button.
The circled targeted area doesn’t move unless I move. I generally find the Grenade Kit pretty cumbersome though, which is why I rarely use it. I use the Bomb Kit or Flamethrower for direct damage, or Pistol + Pistol for conditions instead.
It also helps to just push the button twice than click your mouse. If you want to use Poison Grenade for example, just double-tap 5.
Smartcasting and a lot of experience microing with Starcraft. Already have to juggle to output the insane damage I manage, cycling between rifle, elixir gun, grenade kit, and either toolkit if I need a block for that boss / dungeon run, or flamethrower if I have no cares.
Learning to use smart casting is the way i do it. Use the Mist to learn the distances, and practice strafing and rotating the camera while throwing your nades. also unlock your camera, this will let you throw them 360 degrees while running in any direction.
if all else fails unbind your “walk back” this will force you to learn to do something else.

First, a lot of practice kiting in areas without mobs, combined with fast cast ground targeting. That requires using 3 fingers simultaneously on the left hand (strafe/turn + 1 button) as well as the mouse to keep the cursor where I wanted it. It didn’t really get practical, though, till I got a cheapie gaming mouse with my computer upgrade that had 2 side buttons. One for #1 on the power tray, one for Dodge.
I still have trouble finding the cursor in intensive fights, though, still practicing.
Fast casting, trait for distance, turn off camera snap, bind autorun in easy location. And it’s easier if not speed running. WvW is about the same, but more so just finding a good location to stand.
I’d kill for a mount with throttle control

I find that walking straight forward or backwards makes aiming or learning to aim considerably more difficult, I tend to run straight ahead aiming my grenades off to the left or right. I also find it easier to predict enemy movement this way and line up my shots accordingly.
Razer Nostromo to me is the most important with a controlfreek on the analog. That and something like combat mode but I still use the ground targeting but mainly just so you don’t always have to hold rmb.

Sounds a lot like me, except I don’t use smart cast
@ the OP: 3 hotkeys that are VERY useful to have: Look backward, call target, and take target.
Running forward while throwing ‘nades backwards is tricky master if you’re still learning the basics, but it is EXTREMELY valuable. I actually practiced running around with look backward turned on in Coriolis Plaza in LA when I had a bit of downtime, and started figuring out how to hit a static spot while jumping around in that area after I mastered that…
Note: You might want to learn to run away from mobs sideways when you’re starting out. It’s much, MUCH easier to kite enemies by strafing and throwing to your side, since you can see a couple feet in front of you as well as the mobs behind you. It’s definitely slower though. That being said, I still do this sometimes if I get a bit out of control and need to catch my bearings, since it’s better than standing still or running away while not attacking at all.
Call and take target are invaluable for flying or fast moving enemies, so you know exactly where their hitbox is, and because it’s easy to accidentally deselect your target with ‘nades. It will also help with kits that work better while not targeting anything, such as Flamethrower… Even when I do guild runs and we’re calling targets over vent, I’m still using call/take target as my own personal Main Assist. That way, there’s no reason that I can’t land that clutch net shot on EXACTLY the target that I need despite having nothing selected the moment before.
Anyway… sorry if I rambled a bit, long day. The above might not work for everyone, but it certainly worked for me. Good luck.

Tbh you really need a naga mouse to spam #1 otherwise it can be tough to spam on the run. However, I’ll admit right now I don’t have the patience for this kit. I’d rather pry bar faces at 100% condi duration.

Grenade kit has for the first time ever since I started playing games 20 years ago made me feel very uncomfortable pain. Sure you can get the occasional head ache if you stare at flashing lights and explosions, but by left hand is destroyed I think. It needs rest. Grenade kits dmg is tantalizing, but I find myself looking for a build that causes less pain, then I am disappointed and go back to Grenade kit.
When the brain is stupid, the body will suffer.
I didn’t read through all the other posts, but the way I’ve been doing it is using p/p skills slowly making my way towards target, switch into grenade kit when on top of the target and hit skill 2, 3 and 5… then spam 1 until u get another 2 up hit it… throw down a frost grenade and then evade out to range again…. honestly, moving with grenades just takes getting used to… i hated it at first and now i do it w/o a second thought.
I aim with my mouse, and mush the key I have nades bound to, but honestly in an active mid/melee range fight, anything but nades is a better option.
Think of grenades as an attack you forfeit escape and survival tools for, in order to do max damage at max range.
Try landing your first hit with #2 grenades, and then switching to rifle/elixir gun to finish them off.
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
This would be my answer too, although that’s probably not what you’re looking for. However, I’ve found it to be quiet a good investment for GW2, not only for grenades. Takes some getting used to though.
The issue I have with fast-ground targeting is you can’t see the targeting area, which can affect the precision with which you throw the grenades. If you mostly use them for close range bombardment, then maybe that won’t be such an issue. However, this will affect all ground targeted abilities, including supply crate, elixir tosses, super elixir, &c. There’s no mechanism by which to only enable it for grenades, unfortunately.
