Okay, so I have been spvping alot latley, currently running Teldo’s condition node fighter, and I do really well in almost all my fights, my biggest problems being condition spamming necro’s which the build just seems weak against due to lack of condition removal, and of course as the post say Mesmers!

It seems everytime in a fight when I have the upper hand against the mesmer they drop stealth, and while they are stealth I seem to still be taking extreme damage? Not to mention the stealth makes me drop target, so when they do reappear its a click fest to retarget them, all the while they are just kicking my kitten Tab target doesnt’ seem to work for crap either due to number of clones most are throwing out. Although this seems alot like a rant I’m just looking for some sound advice on bringing down a decent mesmer because my track record against them is absolutley horrid. I just can’t seem to outdamage them and their survivability also seems to be better than mine.

If there are any serious engineer pvpers out there with some good tips for fighting them I welcome it.

I recommend running away once you see the mesmer. You know mesmers were the only profession to be hit with a big nerf yesterday. Now you have a chance to actually kill one.

As any class, throw a target on a Mesmer you’re fighting. That target will stay on the main body and if you lose track of him or her you can just press T to find them. Mesmers thrive on thinking the people they’re fighting will lose them and use that. They’ll panic and mess up if you stay on them and continuously put pressure on them. Like Thieves, many of them do not carry much to counter conditions so I find that using Immobilizes, Cripples, Freezes and stuns will throw them out so out of whack that they can’t recover (just watch out for Arcane Thievery if you’re doing this).

As an Engineer we’re in a better position than say Warriors, Thieves and Guardians when it comes to punishing Mesmers. Not only do we have good crowd control but also good range capabilities and AoE (something that the illusions hate).

This is just a recommendation out of my opinion, but in PvP always carry the traited Toolkit unless your build has no room for it. Gear Shield is the best block skill in the game, Magnet is very hard to dodge, Box of Nails is a local AoE cripple, and Prybar is a very good confusion inducer.

All bitterness aside, I think mesmers are a pretty much a perfect counter to engineers in general, especially bunker engineers. They can usually just stay out of range of our AoE/cc and nuke us down. My advice:

—As difficult as it is, wait for the illusions to be right on top of you before you dodge. If you dodge before they hit you, they’ll just hit you one second later.
—Don’t try to compete with their ranged pressure. Pistol is useful but doesn’t really hurt anything. Come off the node and either get them to walk onto your bombs or get in their face with supply drop/bombs/prybar.

These are just desperation tactics. I’ll admit that I rarely kill a mesmer 1v1 as a bunker engi.
