Hey guys, just coming back after a long long time a way, and I wanted to know how the eng class is now, and how are they in pve and pvp? Did their survivability get better? What are the pros and cons now of engineer class? Thanks…

Engineer is still god of PvE? Dunno about PvP though.

Still amazing at both pve and pvp

Engineers are fantastic in every single game mode and they have a variety of builds for everything. Condi? Bunker? DPS? Burst? Roaming? We have it all still. We’re getting stronger and stronger by the patch and the only things left untouched are:

1. Turrets
2. A couple gadgets
3. Traits for certain build types (Flamethrower pure Juggernaut DPS, Gadget Traits, Good Turret traits, a decent reason to go 30 in firearms/inventions in PvP especially).

In pvp , It’s hard mode, look at it this way, if you lose to any class and they have less then 50% health left, you really won as this class has the highest skill cap, don’t let anyone tell you different.

I’m going to tell you different. A skilled engineer can beat any build if they build correctly. They might lose the point and it might take a bit of time for some builds, but there’s always a way.

Lol engis can beat just about anything reliably except condi warriors and necros.

Yes but how much harder did you have to try in order to win as compared to any other class? I know first hand because I play many classes and the Eng is by far the hardest to play to achieve the same results, I have to try 10 times harder on my Eng to gain the same results is my point.

If you find the class harder to play kindly refrain from telling other people that engineers lose to everything. I recommend watching or chatting with more experienced engineers because engineers are amazing at PvP.

And I have to try way harder to be successful on my thief. Know why? It’s not my main class and I’m not as good with it. I also have to adapt to what targets I normally go for. My engineer can take out certain builds better than my thief and visa versa. I wreck things on my engineer because I know the swaps by heart and I know how to fight with it.

Best way to level in my opinion is getting around quickly. That can be achieved easily through 10 points into tools for speedy kits. Bombs and grenades are a good way to level. Group things up and aoe down. Trait into explosives for that.

To answer your original question, I think the engineer is in a very good place. I think the PvP end of things have been reasonably answered, so I guess I’ll elaborate on the PvE side of things.

The “fixing” of most exploits in the dredge fractal has forced players to find new ways to complete it. They made it to where you can no longer simply die on the button and leave it activated, so you need someone who is incredibly tanky. Under the right conditions, engineers can satisfy that role.

And since they’ve toughened up the trash in the fractal, stealth skipping is another popular method to easily completing it. As the engineer is only one of two classes in the game (the other being thief) that have access to smoke fields above water, we provide an integral role to groups.

In world events like Tequatl, the zerg is mostly composed of mesmers, elementalists, warriors, and guardians. But engineers are very sought-after on the defensive end of things, as our numerous crowd control skills make the life of turrets substantially easier. I can single-handedly tie up a champion while the rest of my party focuses on killing it. Though we are not the only class with crowd control skills, I do believe we are among the ones that are the best at it. Having two large immobi fields in both Glue Shot and Glue Bomb, especially in conjunction with Sitting Duck, makes a huge difference in the battery defense phase.

And then there’s always stacking might and vulnerability and stripping conditions off allies that we’ve always been good at. I think the engineer is in a very good place right now. Despite the “nerf” to Invigorating Speed and Incendiary Powder, I’ve never been happier with my build options. The only “con” I can think of at the moment is that it’s just so much harder to play than any of my other characters.

Not sure what you like to do (such as bunker, damage or a bit of both) BUT I’ll throw in my solo roaming wvw build.

So it’s a static discharge build which can insta-kill nublets and do well in 1v2 and 1v3 (you’ve got to get them by surprise though to burst down high DPS targets immediately), but if you decide to run this build you’ve got to make sure you burst at the right time. Make sure your opponent has got no blocks up or stability, then stun him, immobilize him and then wreck him with all your toolbelt + rifle skills, with a prybar to the face.

But you’ve got to make sure your burst hits. If it misses, try to survive until you can do it again XD

I’ve also got a bunker one but it’s not really viable for solo roaming as it has zero damage by can survive among 5 or so enemies easily.

I wouldnt say beat everything reliably – in high end it really depends on the individual player – thieves like sizer and shad are insane and can be a real pain in the kitten even with bombs in my experience.

But yea nec and war are the real issue. War definitely beatable but 8 second immune makes it impossoible to focus them. So basically if your enemy team has 2 war and 1 nec thats 3 chars you cant focus.

War 1v1 is possible but takes forever so his team usually comes in and its hard to stay on node vs berserker stance.

Condition necros with 3 reflects are impossible imo. Even with less. Unless the necro isnt condi or is severely outmatched a condi nec should never lose to a condi engi.

In my opinion in pvp Eng is not the harder class to play. Elementalist or thief for me are more difficult . Elementalist is difficult as eng but eng has a much better design (ele was my main ). Thief now is quite hard and sometimes i feel it unusefull. Ok , u can kill someone with burst in 1vs 1 but if u look it in a team it is much more easy to be usefull with eng. With thief cap a point or maintain it is much more difficult and pvp in gw2 is not a death match

Think engi is in a decent spot right now. Could always use a few tweaks. Really disappointed in the new heal skill. All the classes got a new heal skill and engi’s is the worse by far. It has way to long a cooldown. It gives you a buff and a loud annoying noise saying hey don’t finish me off yet I am using AED. Also a one second stun f1 skill is useless. 1 second anything is friggin useless I don’t understand why anet thinks 1 second anything makes a difference.
