How is Scrapper in Wvw? (Roaming)
It works like anything else engineer related. If you’re good, it’s good.
Since shortly after HoT release I still use rabid+celestial pistol/pistol hybrid with all gyros (RR+FS and of course bunker down). I have never seen anyone else use it and I roflstomp pretty much anything except necros, mauhahaha.
Anyway, the problem with the hammer – if you can call it a problem – is that its easily kiteable when facing 2+ ranged characters. In a solo duel, it sort of assume they dont run away. You will need some kit that can range otherwise. Its much easier to maintain pressure on runners with pistol or rifle.
Yea you basicly have to choose your battles very well. You can win 1v3 if you play it right but on the other hand you can get get kited so hard that you wont get a single hit in.
The upside is that with the right skillset you can get out of tight situations pretty easily. I dont even use stealth anymore.
I find hammer dps still lacking in wvw, though the playstyle is fun and similar to spvp atm. I am running a p/p flame scrapper these days with some very effective outcomes. I feel I can much more reliably engage multiple opponents with condi over direct damage, simply because I can apply my rotation, and move on to the next target. Keeping up with cleanses can get time consuming if you are trying to focus down the last 20% of a target and his necro buddy finally catches up to the fight.
I know my build basically makes direct damage negligible, and can only assume from trying many builds, that most people do the same. I also know classes like ele can spam cleanse for days, so I also rely heavily on alchemy trait line with hgh to boost my condi burst and lend some sustained to pistol auto attack. Auto also keeps bleed stacks applied which boosts crit/condi ticks and helps force people to put cleanses on CD.
This bring said, I play a tweaked version of hammer meta in spvp, and I definitely see it being potentially viable in wvw. Possibly stacking marauder stats will lend enough vit for something to work.

This is my regular roaming Gyro Commando
And this is my Gyro Commander that I use for heavier hammer zerging.
People will surely question alot of my choices, but they usually have one of two explanations: I’m cheap and restrict my hidden bag space because I have a ton of other stuff like siege and food and crap (hence using the same celestial trinkets) or I’m a stubborn kitten that try to make subpar builds work more than I really should.
Our roaming group has had great success using this build:
Plenty of damage, decent sustain, invulns/blocks to mitigate damage, good solo/group stealth, and a ton of boons to share. Downsides are it’s not as strong vs condi builds, stunbreaks are low (active S only, have to use the stab throw pre-preemptively), and of course it’s full melee so it can be kited pretty heavily if your opponent really wants to.
Just equip stealth gyro and don’t overextend. You’ll probably have a good time regardless of ability.
I actually don’t gear specifically for roaming or small groups. Probably should….
