How often are you focused down?
Engineer is a free kill and he is very easy to spot due the backpacks. We target engineers first because they usally die pretty fast compared to necros with 3 healthbars and permablinds, PU-Mesmers and thiefs with permastealth or eles with 3 cantrips or warriors or anything.
Throw Elixir B is a joke, a pretty bad one. But i already said that when they patched it.
Stability on a skill with casttime, traveltime and without any stunbreake effect is just useless. Dont get me wrong, engineer is a very strong class, but not in group fights with assist.

I get focused all the time and as previous commenter says – people think “it’s free kill” which is totally wrong. Surely bad engi is (as every other bad proffession/player). With support from team (eg. boons from guard, damage from warrior) it’s one of better things to be focused so my bombs trigger damaging foes.
Probably the theme stays the same – go for ranger. Other classes might have something allowing them to escape – a get away card such as stealth.
There is no pattern. If enemies feel you’re the weakest, they surely will go for you, but when they die most of the time during that, it’s their problem.

Free kill hell no but I do think we have to play better to achieve the survivability of some of the other classes.

awesome vid, vincecontix.
every tried out a toolkit/bombkit/throw mine combo?
With bunker down and celestial stats you give them pretty hot feet
Yup on my engineer I’m usually the first to be focused down…until I spam blinds and confusion and escape with swiftness, blocks and leaps. Run a condition engi and most people will avoid you or focus you down since you are the bigger threat.
Sometimes I get focused down. That usually sends me into a more survivor oriented bomb spec (melandru, leg mods etc etc) at which point all the effort they put on me is just making them easier for the rest of my team.
Being Asura and small frankly helps a lot ESPECIALLY with the engineer because the sacks are quite a bit harder to see.
Just mix up your gear and consider taking a “get away” utility like Elixir S or Rocket boots (or use your e-gun acid bomb well).
Finally, if I really am getting focused, I will almost always run the bomb kit and a quick blast finisher (shield, rocket boots etc) and stealth/leap reset.

Engi is most def not a free kill. I guess I should said or made it more clear that I am very capable at kiting. I’ve kited 7 players to their deaths with nades as my team focuses each one down.
While I will agree that engi’s have some bad setups with low stability and condi clears. We can put down a lot of pressure. I’m not complaining about a lack of skill as I said we go up agaisnt uneven fights all day and win.
What I’m asking is how often do other engi’s get auto targeted and have to go into kite mode when in a havok group.
As for my kite ability the 7 years of Hunter pvp in another game at high lvl play brings me lots of hate mail/msg in wvw and spvp.

aoe slows, leaps, blinds, knockbacks, blocks, interrupts… You obviously have yet to face good engineers. Also, if this guy can kite 4-7 ppl, he is obviously anything but a free kill and contributes heavily to his fights.
Not really. I find engineers, playing as them, and against them to be fairly survivable in small scale.
I usually get focused most on my necro, due to their difficulty of handling CC unless you take a very expensive stability trait. Death shroud is good in 1v1s and maybe even 2 but honestly it doesn’t really last that long under focus fire because they have to facetank mostly everything. Necros also don’t really have any blocks or invuls; the best they can do is plague form which is on a long cooldown. They are also slow and have almost no ability to disengage. Engineers at least have more vigor and gear shield blocks, as well as various leaps to disengage though of course nothing to the level of guardians or warriors.
If you really want to paint a target on yourself, be a ranger and use a bow. Though it reminds me of this funny incident where my friend and I won a ~3v5 when my engineer was still an uplevel. They kept chasing me due to being an uplevel, but due to elixir S/Rocket boots could never finish me off, while my friend, which was a bearbow just shot them all down. This might be the only case in gw2 where the bearbow was the greater threat. (well, there was this other random pug that was helping us but I’m not really sure what they did besides die)
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

i feel the focus pretty often, but 2+3 inventions, 2+3+4 alchemy, and tk and/or bombs and/or eg and/or rocket boots keep me alive for … ever
its good if i get focused.
head here to discuss wvw without fear of infractions

Engineers are awesome, don’t diss.
I made the biggest norn engi possible and I get focused a lot lol. I made celestial though, so I’m running 2 invulns, stealths, bomb kit and elixir gun though so I don’t get focused down if I have those.
Engis are incredibly vulnerable to immob spam, cc, and focus fire along with necros. Also their downstate is the worst in the game which makes them one of the eisier targets to train down and finish.
In small number fights i feel i like i get focused by many people who tunnel vision on me; in large fights i feel invisible and am usually allowed to spam nades freely.
I get focused down a LOT in small roaming groups because I tend to add a lot to the group.
For example, I often will run a power/heal build and the last thing the enemy wants is for me to drop all the regen and bomb heals or fumigates for condition removal.
But, I don’t find myself getting spammed down so much as a free kill. In fact, it can take quite a bit of extra effort to kill me. This is not because I play well, per se, but the engineer has a few things to extend fights:
1. Big Blocks
2. Reflection
3. Rocket Boots
4. Multiple heal sources (if specced)
5. Stealth (with bombs and I seriously think bomb kit adds value just to stealth up quick)
Immob spam is a huge problem unless you spec full out against it with leg mods, -duration food etc. etc. You can get almost 100% reduction (at a cost).
The one reason my group does tend to focus on engineers first is because we never know how they are set up to be played and that poses a risk.
