When I started playing GW2 I created a Norn Engineer not really knowing anything about the game even though I came over from GW. I really enjoy the Engineer and think it’s a fun class, especially the flamethrower. But my Norn Engineer is so slow, it’s ridiculous. Everything seems to be in slow motion and boring. I can’t keep up with anyone in the game. I know I can use the Elixir B for a short speed boon and Elixir H in the hope of getting another speed boon but wasting the healing. I also know I can put a Superior Sigil of Speed on my rifle for a short speed boost (after killing a foe) but it doesn’t do me any good when using the flamethrower. The speed rune in this game is a joke….you need 6 of them on a char to make any real difference (in regards to speed) of only 25% compared to other boons that are 33%. The Superior Rune of the Traveler again requires all 6 runes before getting a speed boost of only 25% (compared to others at 33%). Are there any other options to make the character have better movement speed? I just find myself not playing the Engineer any more as he is no fun because of how slow he is in the game. I play my Guardian all the time and my Ranger too at times, as I can have constant speed boons with them using signets or skills. I know the Engieer doesn’t have any signets but one would think they should seeing they are Engineers and should be able to make whatever lol. It seems to me that all of my other characters move faster than my Engineer even without using speed boons. Is that really the case? Does the prof and/or class affect the base speed of the character? If so then I know not to play Engineers any more in the game and just stay with Guardian or Ranger.

Speedy kits trait!

Trait for Speedy Kits, you can have permanent swiftness with that trait.

You can go 10 points into the Tools trait line and go for speedy kits. This will give you 10 seconds of swiftness every time you equip a kit.

Quite handy for roaming and running in general

Actually, runes of the traveler are great. Yeah you got 25%, ALL the time, like all signets.
But you don’t need that on engi, they got perma swiftness.

Until you try to run through Southsun Cove and the Reef Riders steal all your swiftness.

yup. speedy kits. .hit 20, put the points into there and you are done. THey just buffed it to 10 sec vs 5 sec, so that is nice..

Couple that with Med kit and the #4 there and you can even be more lazy about keeping the buff up.

When I play my engi, I most of the time invest the 10 points into the Tools train line. It gives a good perma-swiftness (and then you can even trait to have it give you Vigor)! Engi’s are actually quite fast out of combat, especially if they use the right utilities (rocket boots, slick shoes, even bombkit+blast for stealth!0

This is true but the Norn running animation makes them appear slow as heck. It’s just a visual thing but that is why my Norn Mesmer never made it past L10. Well that and when I took him into Trolls End jump puzzle.

There’s also the trait in the toughness trait (20 trait points required) power boots or something like that, it gives 25% movement speed buff.

The slowness you are referring to isn’t actual movement slowness, its just animation. looks alot slower cause norns are huge!

Even my norn thief at lowest height looks slow when moving (with signet equipped).

Try being a huge engineer charr. feels slower lol.

This is very true. All races are normalized in terms of hit boxes and speed. The Norn’s legs and arms must actually move slower so that their overall movement is not greater than the other races. If the OP doesn’t like this, there’s really no way to fix it without rolling a new race.

Its because of their size. Asure look like they are running faster when playing them. The bigger the object the slower it appears to move.

Power Shoes trait 25% movement speed in and out of combat. Speedy kits trait 10 seconds of swiftness when you equip a kit with 10 second cooldown. A little annoying switching to your kit every 10 seconds but you can get permenent swiftness.
